  1. Imagine if in the recruiting centre we could inspect the career files of our Kerbals that would record -

    - when they joined the space program

    - what missions they took part in, their length and science points obtained

    - what planets and moons they orbited

    - what planets and moons they landed upon

    - what planets and moons they walked upon

    - what medals, awards and honours they received (either automatically given by the game, or player given)

And maybe especially decorated Kerbalnauts could get different spacesuits as a reward for their service.

A silly fluff idea I know, but I'm always wondering what previous missions my Kerbals took part in when I launch a new one.

  2. I put a space telescope into a 200km orbit around Kerbin today.

Kerbal telescope technology amounts to putting your face right up against the window and squinting very, very hard.

Second KSC location. It's just a few pixels even when fully zoomed in. They need to develop better squinting technology.

  3. I messed up an attempt to put an orbiting lab with lander and crew around the Mun. I get both halves into Kerbin orbit so I can dock them together then realise that I hadn't checked the docking ports after improving my Minmus lab design for this Mun mission.

Now I'm stuck in Kerbin orbit, unsure of how to proceed.

EDIT - I sent up a second lander and probe so I could balance the whole craft before I sent it to the Mun, but that last stage behind the second lander is full to the brim with delicious fuel. I'm not sure if I should use that fuel and send everything to the Mun in two halves, or dump the delicious fuel and just go in one trip as originally planned. There's no docking port on that fuel tank so I can't even park it in orbit for future use.

  4. I found out that my landers didn't have quite enough fuel for a polar landing on Minmus, so I pinched a nuclear engine from my orbiting station to get one there and back.

  5. This thread is awesome. You guys do amazing things.

This afternoon resupplied my orbiting Minmus lab with a new lander, fresh crew and more fuel.

  6. Today I sent a lab and lander to Minmus to collect science. Collected 1400 science in that one mission, left the lab and lander in Minmus orbit for future missions and brought the crew home safely.

  7. I sent an unmanned rescue lander to the Mun to pick up Jebediah who was stranded there without fuel to get home. Everything went perfectly up to the landing. The rescue lander was going to come down within a couple of hundred meters of Jeb and had plenty of fuel for the return trip. It was night but I had landing lights to help me. The lander was doing over 200m/s at 6,000m alt which is plenty of space to slow down ... then at 5,000m I noticed that the ground was rushing up rather fast. Jebediah had a good view of his rescue pod hitting the ground at 170m/s at 4,200m "altitude".

No radar altimeter on a night-time landing. I laughed.

  8. I got tired sending probes to the Mun one-by-one, so lumped three on one spaceship so I could science-bomb the living boulders out of the Mun.

Every probe landed on the Mun and returned to Kerbin safely.

I haven't played for six months or so, and I just have to say that I'm really enjoying the career mode and the science system.

  9. 24 Kerbals

    13.9t

    9398 m/s

Currently in space escaping Kerbin's orbit

Wow ... yeah ... I was inspired by an earlier entry to build a 72 seat bus.

I was in the loooong process of filling her up with kerbals when the game bugged out when my 25th kerbal EVA'ed his capsule. Everything except the UI went black and the altitude meter was going nuts. I exited and restarted the game and went to the tracking system to see what was up.

Apparently my bus with 24 kerbals on board was in space and on an escape trajectory from Kerbin.

    xxy9.jpg

    9398*13.9t*(24+1)=3,265,805

Though technically they got into space without any propellent, this probably doesn't count because it was due to the game bugging out.

I'm more concerned about my 24 kerbals who are stuck on a bus without engines or fuel and are on a course for deep space.

    Poor guys :(

  10. I'm obsessed with trying to make SSTO craft as small as possible.

My current design I'm working on.

    wafa.jpg

Docked with the previous version that struggled on a single jet engine.

That is just so incredibly clever. Attaching the bay door to a decoupler, and the way the engines are laid out too.
