My ship had a spaceplane at the top so I flew around the planet and there were cliffs and floating islands and it was pretty cool. Then I found a city and I landed there. Do I play too much?

I tried the Buran cargo shuttle and the NASA cargo shuttle. When I got into a stable orbit of around 250,000 km I pressed v and the cargo doors would not open. Why is this?
