The reason why this is, is because many of the moons you cited, were captured over time, as asteroids, and orbit retrogradely and have a high eccentricity. I think what we mean to say is that moons formed from a planets accrection disk or impact during the early stages of planetary developement, are tidally locked. just my little hypothesis... Also, the reason why the earth\'s core is still heated is because of radioactive elements like uranium and thorium. The main isotope that fuels this is U-238, with a half life of 4.5GYA. So technically the intensity halfs every 4.5GYA, and ahhhh... im too tired to think properly! blehblehbleh =P

Is there something in the outer system?
luciencd replied to Trebuchet-Launch's topic in KSP1 Discussion
There actually can be a kerbol escape speed, even if it is not orbiting anything. If you go at a high enough speed the gravity will reduce your speed but as you are leaving that decrease in speed will not be enough to reduce it into an orbit. -
really sorry i forgot to check the forums these past couple days, ill try to get it tonight and if not, in the morning tomorrow . *scratch that* 8) I did it now. it is capable of removing other spacecraft debris with its laser. and it is able to rove across the surface well, and if it needs to leave, it can decouple, go on a 0.5 km high orbit, and laser the rover itself, leaving nothing behind(theoretically) . new base called: Aluminium Oxide. (idk lol thought of it on a whim). btw.... make sure you spell 'aluminium' with 2 'i' (I didnt get into countless arguments with my science teacher for nothing!) =P I think i need sleep, it is 2:13am where im at. ZZZz...

ok. ive landed without mechjeb at least once on the mun! and successfully landed 5 km away from where my destination was! the cool part was that after i landed i took off again and landed in a closer different spot! i feel happy! oh, i forgot. because i\'m landing a laser debris removal rover, should it have fuel on it? or should it just be the rover no fuel neccessary? (its the big rover btw..)

[GAME!] Describe the person above you in one sentence
luciencd replied to Misterspork's topic in Forum Games!
The person above doesn\'t care. -
When a new base can be created on the mun. I can create a new one, because I\'m not the best at landing in a designated spot. Also, the (sunbeam) Laser mod would be my new mod. Does it matter if the solar panels used on the bigger lander come from zoxygene? because im not actually using them, except for show. luciencd - I need to know which of the bases you want to add to, or if you\'re founding a new Mun or Kerbin base. Keep in mind that until 5 have flown to the Mun base, I didn\'t want to open a new one - so if someone before you on the list gets dropped you might have to change plans if you\'re opening a new one!

While i want to be part of this, i am not sure im expirienced enough to land these in the right places, at least i may be able to make a founding base. Using mechjeb i can probably get it there with the smart A.S.S controls but anyways, i think i want to land either one of these ships. First, an unmanned rover that would just be to move around. Or, a manned lander that would land once and then be able to travel back to Kerbin with its upper stage leaving it\'s lower stage on the ground, As a generator for the other missions. I\'m still deciding on which one I should send, when i send it Also, is this thing like role playing? can the solar panels be used for anything? (the lander is called eta carinae II btw)

Two days ago, I wanted to do something different. I wanted to start a mun mission to create a base there. I decided to go first with an unmanned unmoving lander on the surface of the Mun. It was a success. The rocket I used was this one: It brought the lander to the Mun, and because i cant stand orbital debris, i made the first solid stage separate at 12000m, and the second liquid stage crash into the mun. The third lander stage, went towards the mun and landed at a flat land near the equator. (due to poor judgement i landed it at night, but still, it landed!) The next mission, a rover set for the mun used the same type of design. And did not release debris. It went into orbit around the mun and i used mechjeb to put the decent trajectory about 10 meters away from the lander below. Unfortunately, the computer did not solve for the mun’s rotation, so I had to land 5 km away from it. Btw i use mechjeb to do ascent and A.S.S manuvers, but i dont use the descent module(or only to designate a specific spot where i want to land, not the actual landing part) I had previously spent hours trying to make a small mun rover (carts v1.32) with a satellite (novapunch) module on top of it with a laser on top of that(sunbeam). It didn’t work out so well so I could not attach a laser on top of it. However, I did manage to get a sort of “dropship†mechanism on top of the rover that would land the rover, increase the thrust where it would be just under the thrust required for lift, then I would decouple it. It worked, and the descent stage flew off. It went in circles and ended up crashing later so it was ok for debris. Now the rover, 6.2 km away from the other lander needed to turn on and start its travels. To get to the other lander was an endeavour that took about 20 minutes of real time. I got there eventually and there was a 10m separation. after that was done, i needed to send a manned mission to orbit the mun. I used Zoxygene to make it more realistic, but am having second thoughts about it. I also used the Deep space mod to get an ion engine rechargeable by solar panels. Now, for the Zoxygene mod, i dont know if i want to keep it, because even though it makes it more realistic, it’s kind of cumbersome. Anyways, I used it for the orbiter. The ion engine was quite useful however, because when orbiting the moon, the ion engine is sufficient. It is especially useful when trying to change inclination. When my Kerbinauts finnaly got into a slightly inclined and circular orbit about 4 km from the surface. I got about 7.5 km away from the base, and took this picture. So? Is my moon base official by the forum’s standards of something? Should i continue using Zoxygene? Is there any mod that would allow for munar infrastructure? anything i should do with the base? should i add more craft? should i put a manned lander? can you answer those questions, and tell me what you think about the mission i just did? Happy Rockets! P.S. this is my first thread so i am not an expert at choosing which directory this thread should be in!

sorry, idk if you have tried doing this already, but, why dont you let people fly to the mun on their own comp, with given coordinates for landing sites, and then they can send you guys their persistance files, instead of the other way around. ??? profit. meh, idea just came to me like that, dont hate if you already do this xD
