These are some great looking rockets! Other than Novapunch pack what add-ons do you recommend?

While Googling on the Mars topic and trying to find more cool links to show you guys i came across this article showing a panorama taken by Mars rover Opportunity. It contains 817 images all put together to make one awesome view. Just image if we had kept the funding for NASA where we could be today. NASA\'s Mar\'s rover Curiousity should be landing on Aug 5. I recently began reading about the complexities associated with sending a rover to Mars and it was and is truly fascinating. Here is a short 5minute video on just the broad spectrum engineering hurdles to get the rover on Mars. Hope you enjoy!

awesome looked like my first landings as well! lol

How you time your trip for catching the Mun???
jolee1868 replied to Kodiak's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
So this is my flight procedure to get to the mun and for me it works most of the time if I keep true to my headings and flight path. Now everyone has their own method to Gettin a earth orbit.. Im no expert but I will launch full throttle straight up to 20-25km. At this point I will angle down the 90 degree heading to a 45 degree angle. I keep this heading until my peak altitude (I can remember off the top of my head periopsis or apopsis ) but around 100km. I cut power and drift to about 5km from that peak point. Then I will full throttle at a 0degree inclination on the 90degree heading still. Lookin at the map view I watch the flight path until it is the shape and altitude I want. Your velocity at this point should be about 2300m/sec to maintain your orbit but thats not a big deal if you aren\'t planning on staying there, we don\'t we are adventurers and the mun is on our mind. With throttle cut drift until you see the mun just crest earths horizon and full throttle at your yellow circle which is the direction of velocity. It should be right around the 0degree inclination point since you got into orbit in this direction. Also make sure you are at 90 degrees still. Watching map view control your ship until you see your trajectory intercept the mun. It is important you have the X key ready to immediately kill throttle when you intercept. If you intercept but over shoot before you kill throttle no big deal. Simply kill throttle, direct your ship to the yellow circle with an X to reverse burn. You don\'t need much throttle at all. Watch map view and stop when you intercept again. Now fast forward until you actually enter the orbit. This is where it is tricky. You will need to burn and reverse burn to get orbit. It takes practice and I can think of how to explain it. That in short is my method of mun orbit and I can do it most of the time. You will develop your own procedure that works but I hope mine gets you started. Some things ive learned try keeping your 90 degree heading at precise as possible over time as you are off a few degrees it is magnified when you get to the mun. Your orbit will be different. Not a huge deal but it is something to think about. Good luck all. O and if you keep burning out of earth orbit like I was explaining and burn past the mun you will intercept minimus as well. Thats how ive gotten there before. Just keep burning and watch the map. -
Interesting im going to have to play around with this setup

I just started trying to learn how to set up a communications network. I think i may be missing something like a plugin to actually show them talking and the network.looks fun though

Nice I need to find this arch you speak of
-
congrats! The first time on the mun is the best. Get where you can orbit the mun consistently and shoot for minimums next. Actually landing on minimus with gear is easier Imo cause less gravity. I crash quite a bit on the mun still with too fast a landing speed. Minimus not a problem. But awesome keep us posted on more accomplishments 8)

hey december this was Markus\' response to that question i asked him earlier in this thread 'As for the landing, I have been trying to get finished up a landing video, but the two most recommended tips I have is come in with as little of horizontal velocity as possible. With a vertical lander, can use the gymbal to eliminate most of your horizontal velocity. My best tip I found is since a small lander is so controllable, jettison your ASAS and only use an SAS. The SAS only will stop any inertial movement. You can still give control orders, but the motion will stop after giving the command without the ASAS. So turn on your SAS, and hit the caps locks button so the commands are small, and it makes it easy to give the small adjustments needed to ensure a smooth glide path.' - Marcus

man i started trying to play with the mods you mentioned and im having a horrible time getting them all working together. The problem i come across is alot of them replace existing .dll files or plugins or parts folders themselves, i dont know what one to keep and not to keep lol. getting frustrated. everytime i look at your comcast system and mun base im remotivated to try again to no avail
-
nice thank you exactly what i was wanting! ;D

Markus\' base is awesome. I posted on his personal thread about his base trying to find out what all mods were used other than powertech and dynasat. I want that rover mod for sure! awesome. cant wait for more to be posted. I know what i am attempting to do tonight!

nice mod! definately going to download and try when i get home tonight -
So I have always love astronomy, space exploration, NASA, and science in general. Having a bachelors in molecular biology i can nerd out pretty easily over the smallest things. My main hobby asside from biology and healthcare is astronomy. KSP filled every nitch of space nerdism i need especially with the great modding community out there im having a blast learning it. What i want to know for you out there that understand the math and physics of the KSP flight (and i know you are out there i read forums where math equations get brought out pretty rapidly), what are some good books/sites on the physics of spacecraft and setting up orbits ect. I think you guys know what i am talking about. I want to be able to calculate where i am going and whats going on other than just taking guesses all the time. This post may or may not make it but see what you guys give me. Thanks

nice im watching while i am \'working\' lol. Too bad i cant load up ksp on my work machine. what mods are you using? id comment on the stream but dont feel like making an account

WOW! that looks great. Right now im trying to critique my landing abilities. I do good until a few metres off the lunar surface where I then get all thrust happy and fly all over. I need to start playing with the RCS rockets to have finer control so i dont tip over as easy or overcome my descent and begin ascending again. Anyhow, how hard is it to actually end up landing that close together? do you have any advice for someone that is just happy landing let alone finding a specific point and having multiple sites there? Im going to try out what you have going, just to double check are you using just the Powertech and Dynasat mods to do all that? Thanks Markus keep us updated love to see what else you have planned for the future!

Interesting info on real space computers....
jolee1868 replied to combat squirrel's topic in KSP1 Discussion
nice i always knew that modern phones blew the apollo software out of the water but i never had looked up the exact amount of memory it took. pretty amazing. I dont think most people in todays world appreciate just how complex yet in todays terms \'simple\' many things were. it really is a one of the wonders of the world. -
I havent quite figured out how people do Mun bases yet i need to start finding good forum posts on that so i can start playing with it if you got a good topic link on mun bases you found helpful add it on here id love you for it. Reply to Endeavour: yeah its only Silisko Edition parts nothing else added. I have a KSP OG folder and a KSP Silisko Edition folder then a KSP MODS folder for everything else random. I love the Silisko edition mod its real fun i recommend it for sure. On a side note. Im dying for the next update. I check every day hoping that there will be news on its release

lol. RETURN. that word hasnt ever entered my vocabulary. Im planting monuments for future Kerbal Mun visitors lol. But like Vanamonde said I only have one successful upright moon landing. I have like 4 that are on the side but my brave astronauts are alive. Mun landing is very difficult. i can get down to like a few meters from landing then hit one side too hard and bounce all over. I landed upright on Minimus first try which i was shocked by. i think i may have to start a new ship to even think about return flights. Mine right now isnt very efficient up to orbit i think its too heavy for its power/weight ratio. I love this game. I cant wait for missions, observatories, training kerbonauts.

This is my first post on here actually but i read it more than i probably should and without the help of all you guys (and gals) on the forums no way i would have stuck with this game. So Thank you all for the help Over the past few days i got a reliable rocket built that could hit orbit and have fuel to spare. I started playing with the Silisko mod cause all the great stuff i heard about it. Well i managed to get to the Mun a few times and each time with more and more fuel. So at the point of hitting the Mun intercept i decided to give it a shot and try and slingshot out to Minimus. i hadnt even looked to see if my trajectory was going to get me in the little ice rocks path but lone and behold i had an intercept! Not only that i was able to play with my orbit and had enough fuel to attempt a landing. I was pretty excited and decided to share it with the only people in my life that even appreciate and understand it lol. ** on a side note.. having a brutal time figuring out how to get the spoiler pictures to work in my post. im using the img link from dropbox in between the [spoiler [img LINK /img /spoiler but actually written out of course. what am i doing wrong
