  1. Rapier engines are both jet and rocket engines. That is specifically the reason I am using them. This craft theoretically should be able to land anywhere in the solar system given it is able to refuel.
  2. Thanks to Zephram I split the tanks with my command pod and have a balanced 6 tank VTOL. Anyone want to help get it SSTO? I'm using rapier engines for both directions of travel. Also I discovered if you run lines to a fuel crossfeed part attached to engines it will drain equally from all attached tanks. That is how I balanced the forward thrusting engines fuel supply.
  3. As for the first part I am VTOLing with 6 engines, basically at the points of a rocket with 6 symmetry turned on. They all have their own small tank. This alone does not give me enough fuel to then also be able to sustain hover or reach orbit (where I would then refuel). The issues start when the center of the craft, typically several tanks in a row making the center of the ship start to drain. The second part may work although I was hoping for something that did not require adjustments on the fly as flying a VTOL with any kind of precision requires plenty of real time adjustments as it is.

  5. Any VTOL using more than a single fuel tank will have this problem and has nothing to do with symmetry. It's a ship not a rocket, as fuel drains from the front tank the center of weight shifts to the rear causing the craft to automatically pull up when hovering. I have 5 or 6 different designs atm and every single one this is a problem.
  6. I have been trying to use the new rapier engines to build a SSTO VTOL. My largest hurdle has been fuel balancing. Because fuel drains from the first tank first it throws weight distribution out the window. Currently I am trying to separate the tanks and run a fuel line to each engine so all fuel tanks drain at the same rate, the issue here is the lack of parts being labeled fuel cross feed so I am having some issues with this as well. Anyone have any success in balancing large amounts of fuel through the entire burn?
  7. As far as I remember when I bought KSP it said something about all future versions being available. I would think that would include steam.
  8. I've used mun gravity assisted transfer's before. I don't know if it's more efficient but i think it would be close.
  9. This is my #1 landing maneuver. cut engines and thrust down just before you touch down... prevents bouncing, very effective.
  10. you can drop the second small engine in place use the nuke engine. If you use SRB's you can get ride of the 2 large half tanks. But it's a nice simple lander wither way.

  12. yea I'm using blender. Is there a way to find the coordinates for them? right now I am just guessing and that is really annoying.
  13. changing the material to "metal" on the collision mesh in unity fixed the problem. Thanks Is it possible to make attachment nodes in unity instead of the cfg file?
  14. Give me an idea of what you would like for a part... I was thinking a dish or something to relay with ground control? let me know your idea's and I'll get to work on it.

Its only some minor actions left - like attach textures, convert all this stuff into .mu 3d files and create a config file and your first part ready, working great and makes everybodys bleed from awesomeness =) you have just remedied about 6 months of fustration... so stinking simple it makes me want to throw my comp. but I did this and while my part highlights when I mouse over it I still can't grab in in the VAB... any idea's as to what I am missing??
  16. ^ I didn't know Bop and Minmus were the same thing. Also, just because it was done before does not make it easy or trivial.
  17. I have a new weird bug, when I have the window (calculations) open and leave kerbin orbit it freezes/ locks up the screen and makes windows invisible again. And I also agree with improving the math, it would be nice to know the proper inclination and things like that. Keep up the hard work. Younata if your interested I can model you a part if you would like. Let me know.

Honestly I still think aerospike's are king of the hill. use a 1 man pod, the largest fuel tank, and an aerospike and learn just how crazy they still are. combined with the new NERV's for once your out of atmo and... things just got real. they have been balanced a little bit I admit but personally I like it. my big problem is how hard it is to place them, things just don't want to attach to anything for me.
