  1. From the planned features page: 'Cities and other geographic points of reference' So yes, there will be changes. The game is in alpha. However, for me personally, I\'d rather see smaller settlements no larger than a village, with hamlet being the typical size. I don\'t want to see cities for many reasons. Such as... * Cities properly scaled to a Kerbal would have a huge footprint on a planet with an equatorial radius of 600km. * Either from a content creation point of view, or a game engine and rendering point of view, I can\'t see a city being done properly. Proper as in having all buildings as 3d renders. Instead you will get some buildings on a city map texture. I doubt you will see 1 mill+ Kerbals walking round either. If you have programatically generated hamlets, you can get real buildings and Kerbals walking around like you see in the VAB. * A decent size village is still big enough to have visible Kerbal made landmarks and a runway to land at. * Cities are serious... from an art direction it just does not fit well in my mind. Kerbals and the game itself seem to be lighthearted fun.
  2. It\'s certainly harder in 0.16, but with practice and a lot of trial and error epic failure, you can build large rockets from large parts. Dynamic pressure seems to be more important now. With many a launch going fine until a certain speed... then a tanks falls off or decoupler gets crushed. I posted details elsewhere. This is 1142 tons. Does over 1000m/s in atmosphere without breaking up. It\'s surprisingly stable on the pad.
  3. Good work! Interesting that you chose Mun before Minmus. Since it\'s easier to do Minmus first, in terms of fuel, and in my opinion, navigation as well. I done a grand tour in 0.15, with Minmus first. Done it again twice in 0.16, however both of these suffered the dreaded parachute-ripped-off-capsule problem. First with 2 struts, then 3, even though testing showed that 3 was enough... Kerbal engineering *sigh* I\'m not sure what I should set myself as a next challenge. Maybe a triple landing and return. Or double landing at the poles. I\'d like to do a double landing then a powered descent upon return to Kerbin, placing the craft on the lanch pad. However I don\'t think I will have enough fuel for that (even though I get back with a little over 1600ltr), or maybe I can put some chutes on decouplers to help... will have to think about it.
  4. Yeah - it\'s harder but doable to build big rockets with big parts in 0.16 This is 1142 tons. Does over 1000m/s in atmosphere without breaking up. It\'s surprisingly stable on the pad. Brace your outer tanks to inner at bottom and top. Horizontal struts between tanks that are next to each other, at least at the bottom, sometimes the top as well. Struts supporting second stage. Note all upper tanks have couplers. Lots of struts needed here since i\'m not using couplers. Less struts here since there is less weight. I attached the craft file. It has a mechjeb radial. You can remove that by editing the craft file and removing the PART and LINK if you don\'t have mechjeb. You don\'t need it to launch it for you, but steering is impossible when your framerate is a slideshow on 1st stage.
  5. Well, for me, from tutorials i learned you get to the Mun from doing the burn at Mun-rise. So I did the same for Minmus, but use map view so you can see it. I find it pretty easy to get there now.
  6. To me it just seems that the rocket is tall (ie. bendy), and your using fins, and gimbling engines, and RCS. My instinct tells me that the ASAS is mebe getting a bit confused, and the parts are trying to go in all directions. Also note that air friction seems more an issue now with big ships. Try throttling down to keep your speed slower to see if it\'s a threshold of friction causing the loss of control.
  7. Does it wobble and or bend during ascent? What happens if you take all the fins off? ... and whats with the RCS tanks on the first stage and SRBs!
  8. Some or all of the engines in any stage should be the gimbal type (ie. directional thrust). In the atmosphere, controllable fins (eg. AV-R8 Winglet) also help steer (IMO really only good for first stage). I also recommend always having an ASAS module on any serious craft. Note that to steer you should have SAS turned off, then have it on when you want to hold a direction.
  9. It does not cast a shadow. (unless your really close) In my rule-of-thumb book, anything that can\'t cast a proper shadow, or has no reflection is made of pure evil.
  10. But but... doesn\'t the forum use unsigned 16 bit numbers? Since I can\'t see any negative posts anywhere!
  11. You get to Minmus the same as you get to Mun. Only difference is you need to adjust your inclination like neistridlar points out. See this... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Orbit1.svg To change your inclination you need to do a burn where the target inclined orbit intersects the plane of reference of your current orbit. You do the burn in a direction perpendicular to your orbit. So when orbiting around the equator you do north or south, which on the Nav Ball is between the green markers, on the line where the top (up) and brown (down) meet. Use your map view scrolled out so you can see the purple Minmus orbit line to visually judge your inclination against it so you know when to stop the burn. Damn, now that I read that it makes is sound harder than it actually is... mebe theres a vid around. It\'s not that hard. Anyhows, good luck on your Minmus landing.
  12. My guess... Biological age: 31 Emotional age: 13
  13. My 2c... * Do what NASA and every other space agency does - leave it there * Set Max Debris to a low level * Avoid leaving debis with better designed rockets ... and besides, a little debris here and there makes it more realistic.
  14. My tips.... 1. Grab a few proven rocket designs from The Spacecraft Exchange section of this forum. Practice your flying on them before using your own built rocket. I think your rocket looks good... but i\'d say that is way too much weight for only 3 engines on the first stage. Need more engines, or downsize, which will be easier and still orbital capable. 2. Watch some tutorial videos on YouTube. I\'m finding for this game, video is much more useful than anything that is written (at least as a starting point). 3. Finally, on any serious craft design, I recommend using an ASAS module, and have some or all engines on each stage be able to gimbal (ie. direct thrust to help steer). Also, apologies if you already know this - but you need to have SAS off to steer.
  15. Planning a double landing with fuel to spare for things like poor navigation, extended cruising for ideal landing, and polar orbits etc. This craft is a close reproduction (using the new large parts) of a 0.15 craft which fit the pad better.
  16. I had to shimmeh this puppy over in order to clear the tower... Anyone else needing a bigger pad?
  17. Awesome work Squad. Can barely wait to get started. However, sadly I too am having patcher issues. Patience I must have! Couldn\'t unzip the latest update, do you have sufficient disk space? Ionic.Zip.ZipException: Cannot read that as a ZipFile Looks like the download fails from overload. But the exception is swallowed and the zip unpacking fails from the file being incomplete/corrupt. EDIT: Yay, manged to finally get the patch down after several attempts. It worked all the way when I stopped browsing this forum. Probably a coincidence... but no harm to try yourself and see if it helps.
  18. The Mun Arch (on .15 still) Landed a couple of craft there. Both were flipped sometime after landing. Physics bug? ... or mysterious power of the Arch
  19. Challenge Accepted! Vehicle ready to launch! In orbit...
