  1. It seemed petty when they switched away from Bush’s returning to the moon. I think Obama has changed the long term goal to Mars instead. The biggest problem I have with that move is it feels more like an accomplishment for the sake of accomplishing. No doubt the whole space race started with those ideals, but I want long term-sustained exploration where the main goal is for the benefit of scientific study, and not just to go there for a few missions and never return. Permanent moon exploration/occupancy is the next logical step from having a permanently manned space station. But like you said earlier now it has really just become a political game, make big promises and expect everyone to forget/not care anymore once you’re out of office.
  2. Roll patterns as well at the entire form/shape of the rocket, as well as the previously mentioned Saturn INT comparisons. Main point being this does not completely “look†like a 'modern day' rocket design we have seen from NASA and other space agencies. Obviously the internals will be new age circuitry, but I really want to know if they have reverted to the Saturn-ish look due to optimal design, or is this a cost-saving effort (in either design and/or operation), or for whatever reason. It’s obviously very possible this is the most ideal design for the function they are trying to perform, but there have been numerous budgeting problems with designing their new series of replacement rockets. You can’t help but wonder if the SLS design has been affected by these problems.
  3. NASA has selected the design of a new Space Launch System that will take the agency's astronauts farther into space than ever before... http://www.cfnews13.com/article/news/2011/september/311991/NASA-unveils-giant-new-rocket-design I’m sure there is more to it but honestly it seems like they grabbed the old Saturn designs and threw some boosters on it. I suppose the “if it ain’t broke†saying still applies; although 40 years later there must be a better design to work off of.
  4. I always loved seeing it at the Space Center when I lived in Houston. Too bad that place is more of a day-care these days. Just drop your kids off in the morning to play in the jungle gyms, and maybe some of that NASA 'science' will rub off on them.
  5. This is based off of this rocket I chose the mini max because the nose-cone is made of balsa and could be carved to make the command module. Please note I have no proper carving tools or skills, just an exacto knife and some sandpaper. The fins had to be slightly modified and they're still too big, but I'd rather have a stable flight than an exact kerbal replica. The 'paint' job was done by printing texture maps onto adhesive shipping labels. Finally, if anyone's curious, the rockets in the back are the comanche (orange one) and the patriot missile (with custom fins and retro paint job (both are Estes kits). Very cool! I built that same triple stage rocket too (in the back of the pic)... on that note be sure that the first 2 stages are the 'multi-stage' engines or else they won’t ignite the next stage... and then you have a meter long rocket with no cute... falling towards the ground like a returning bullet... with you and your friends running arround in panic mode trying to find cover not that I’m speaking from experience or anything and dont worry! he's got a S.A.S. on there
  6. Ah good then. The report mentioned this would have no effect on the ISS operations so I was being a bit facetious. It’s still unfortunate to lose all those supplies. What sort of oxygen supply do they have up there? I'd imagine that is a much greater concern.
  7. Glad no one was in that thing. ISS crew will just have to cut down on the meal portions :'(
  8. http://www.vatsim.net/ Captain is my voice. ATC controller (actual person) is from the Vatsim network which is a full-realism virtual ATC network. Controllers use real world standards (and many are real-world controllers). I highly recommend it for anyone on FSX. First officer (computer) is automated from the PMDG MD-11 aircraft being flown. PMDG just recently released their 737 NGX http://youtu.be/VQrEuwzyBTM
  9. http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2011/08/18/behind-scenes-at-worlds-first-spaceport-in-rural-new-mexico-desert/ 'In the deserts of the western United States, space tourism is becoming a reality as construction progresses on Spaceport America -- the world’s first purpose-built commercial space travel facility, 45 miles north of Las Cruces, N.M.' Space tourism would be fun in the game, we could get paid for 'successful' flights
  10. Flight Sim X (PMDG MD-11 FedEx) http://youtu.be/VPrQnXW4d9g Minecraft (ofc) Sim city 4 Starcraft 2 (I'm addicted to Mafia)\ Myst I to V, and Uru, and Uru live (not so much anymore) SNES rom ScummVM I just recently quit both WoW and Eve after 5 years, wayy to much time required for the enjoyment
  11. Seems I’m not the only one having trouble losing rockets http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2011/08/11/darpa-readies-hypersonic-aircraft-for-mach-20-launch-test/ I think this is their second attempt (first one lasted 9 minutes). I guess no matter how advanced we’ve gotten in space technology, there are still plenty of room for error. (in b4 Jeb should have been at the helm)
  12. For $5 bucks yes, for $10 probably not Only game purchase I regret (Back when it was ~$50) Not to mention that DRM
  13. I like it. We need to find the author and commission more! They even have the right personalities in the right seats. Moar ponies!
