Because taking a few sentences out of context from someone who's first language probably isn't english is always a reliable way to discern what they mean. Like I said, listen to a few minutes more. He seems to be talking about the early stages being as they are in order not to overwhelm the newbie. Exactly what I expected. That doesn't mean the entire tree is a tutorial.
-
That doesn't say "it's a tutorial". I don't take it as implying that even. Rather he's saying that the lower stages are simple and super easy in order to introduce new players to the game and not become too much of a grind. Rather than making the whole thing into a tutorial, it largely nullifies the whine of those who complain about getting pods before probes. It was always pretty obvious to me that we would be able to unlock the basic techs very very easily anyway. That doesn't tell me anything new. I'm not going to pretend I know exactly how it will be, I am waiting to actually try it. When I play I'll let you know, as a relatively experienced player, how long it takes me to non-exploitatively get through the tech tree. If it takes me less than 10 or so, I might agree that it's too easy to the point of being a tutorial. Otherwise if it's more than that I will then wait until they add in other mechanics like money and so on that should theoretically make the whole thing more difficult before deciding. But right now I see no grounds for you calling the entire thing a tutorial.

About the Tech Tree
Person012345 replied to ddavis425's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Personally I'm waiting to actually try it before judging how terrible/amazing it is. -
Wrong, because you want something else. Saying the same thing over and over doesn't make it right. You want a context sensitive system that would likely be a pita to implement and is completely unnecessary and for it to be harder. Again, mods will help you. Source? And no, his statements that's experienced players should be able to blow through if they exploit the game does not mean tutorial. Again, stop being so arrogant. Again, just because they didn't balance it specifically for you doesn't make it a tutorial. If he actually said literally "it's a tutorial" then go ahead and let me see it and I'll concede the point. The two states are not contradictory per the definition he gave. It says it is under heavy development and sandbox complete. This would still make it an alpha by said definition (which you gave no alternative to and just randomly stated was wrong with no backup). I was making a separate point. I wasn't defending his position. I clarified part of his position, because you seemed to misunderstand it IIRC, stated I didn't necessarily agree with all of his point and made a separate point that was tangentially related. I really shouldn't have to be saying this.

Rocket losing control
Person012345 replied to UnthinkableThinker's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Oh, it's modded. You'll either have to remove the mod parts, give it a different save name and re upload (although idk if thiss will change the balance) or maybe someone else with the right mods can help. -

I was asking so I could try to replicate the problem. I might be able to understand what is happening better if I could see it. -

Dare I ask for the craft file (forget crying, it will no doubt make my computer bleed from it's vital parts)? -
Google Moon Kickstarter pleads for $10M

google is a big enough boy to fund it's own $10 million. -
So we agree, career mode isn't for you. We know what tier 1 parts are -now-. If they also released the other tier parts list then we do -now-. Now that they've made the tech tree. You see how this is reliant on them having made the tech tree yes? Your own argument applies equally to yourself - if you want super uber hard mode, go restrict yourself in sandbox. Because I have no experience in balancing videogames. FYI I -have- been doing that for the past 3 games I've made, but when you do it yourself it's just not the same as having a structure. You know this as well as I do otherwise you wouldn't be here whining about how it isn't structured for you. You'd just go and do it yourself in sandbox. I meant to say what I said. No, you actually don't. I don't give a flying -rainbow- what you think is lunacy. Noone said anything about deliberately trying not to unlock nodes afaik. I certainly haven't. You're putting words in our mouth and attacking a strawman, and that's lunacy. In different ways. The low difficulty encourages me to play realistically and unlock them in a natural manner. Unfortunately that's not a citation. Also, fyi, being a game programmer doesn't mean you programmed the kind of games that I would like to play, so it doesn't give you any legitimacy when it comes to KSP's design with me. I don't know if that's what you were trying to do with that statement (because it certainly wasn't a citation), but that's that. Because you seemed to be implying that "sandbox complete" meant "feature complete". If you weren't then I have no idea what point you were making. Maybe we both have trouble reading because you'll note I said I don't necessarily agree with his point (that you shouldn't be posting about it). Did resources get cut? If so thank god, do you have a source?. -snip- I like how it's two different groups, who appear in this thread to be opposing each other, who say those things and you're pretending like it's all from the same source. I already have. I see no problem with the tech tree (outwardly, I'd have to try it before declaring it balanced totally) and you're simply declaring it "wrong" because it wasn't done the way you wanted. Mods will surely help you there.

I wasn't making a counter point to you specifically. I was just making my position clear. -
Biggest Problem Facing Humanity
Person012345 replied to Apotheosist's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I don't think that some educational elite is the answer btw. The entire human race needs a good level of education, then things will fall into place for it. Before that it's useless to even think of some sort of utopia. The super-intelligent are great for speeding up progress towards actual solutions when we decide we want them, but if society as a whole doesn't demand good, rational solutions to the problems we face then they won't happen. When a society is capable of analyzing the evidence and making critical decisions about what needs to be done, then they will begin doing it. Not that I think this will ever happen because we as a species are our own worst enemy. No single other thing holds us back as a species as much as the individual members and the way they make irrational knee-jerk reactions and allow themselves to be misled and brainwashed does right now. -

Oh, and I agree that the solution is education. The smarter everyone is, the better things will get. Except people generally aren't smart enough to realise this. -

Do you intend to unlock the tech tree as fast as possible? Great, just go to sandbox, this mode offers nothing for you. Stop being such an arrogant little brat. We can't do that now in sandbox without knowing what tier 1, tier 2, tier 3 and so on, parts actually are. If someone made a well balanced tech tree and posted it up, maybe I would do that in sandbox. But that still gives you no kind of guide as to when you should advance, what you actually should have to acquire in order to advance and so on. You don't get to declare what certain things offer other people. There still wouldn't be money and so on in that mode either which will be in career eventually. Newsflash - squad isn't going to balance the career mode specifically to suit your special-snowflake ass. They have to make it enjoyable for as many players as possible and those who deliberately exploit the game physics in order to blow through it as fast as possible will likely come near the bottom in that consideration. Just guessing. Maybe they will balance it purely for you, because they love you so much. [citation needed] Sandbox complete =/= complete. It means the sandbox portion is (at least mostly) complete. He's saying you're bitching and whining about **** that you've not even tried yet. I don't necessarily agree with what he's saying, but I do remember the doomsday criers when they announced they were removing the end flight button. Apparently this was to ruin everything. Oh look, it didn't.

No, he says that he expects R&D won't be "for them", essentially. "Why" would I do that? Because I want to play the game, not beat it. If your objective is to beat the game then great, you can beat the R&D system in 3 launches, good for you. Try and make it 2 launches. But I would suggest that if that were the case then the finished career mode would not be for you. I personally look forward to launching reasonable rockets and taking each thing step by step, doing things specifically so I can progress. It's pretty easy not to exploit the game mechanics in order to produce extreme results. And you should call it science because money will eventually be something else entirely. Edit: Also, as people have said this isn't an absolute final draft. There will be many other factors in the finished career mode to consider. Maybe it is a tutorial for the time being, but once everything else fits into place it might not be so easy to blast through it.

It doesn't help. I run in windowed mode for ease of alt tabbing anyway and if I'm getting the issue (which I haven't had since 0.21 incidentally) I still can't click it, since the arrow button is right at the bottom of the screen in either case. I always use the period on the num pad now anyway, out of habit. I should also note that I wasn't thinking of SRBs when I made my reply. Since those can't feed fuel in it may be a different matter.

LV-909 - Luna 9 mission

I've never had that problem with the 909. As said above, could the engine have been clipped or obstructed?
