  1. Is it possible to make a plugin without an associated part? I want a plugin that does stuff on every game update, without requiring players to attach a part to their ship. However, it seems like you can't even load your plugin without a module = ... in a part. Is there a way?
  2. Yeah, redid my math and you're right. So assuming 3770 km and 200 m/s, it would take about 5 hours.
  3. Flying at 2 km, the trip would be ~1890 km. Assuming you're traveling at a reasonable 500 m/s, this challenge would take about an hour. Good luck aviators!
  4. I got pretty close with my attempt. Flew the plane up to 35km and sped into a ~60km orbit, went around once, passed over KSC and deobited towards it, but ran out of fuel and undershot a bit, causing me to crash in the mountains. Still very close. Mods: C7 pack, Silisko pack, and maybe a few wobbly rockets parts. For other people trying this: try my method and fly into orbit. It uses way less fuel and you gain a huge amount of horizontal speed you'd otherwise need to get outside the atmosphere, plus rockets with planes on top are hellish to control.
  5. Tank you, just got my email today A little bit late ;P, but no big deal. Hope the $10 helps you out!
  6. I call them Fire and The Wheel. I couldn't figure this out at all, then suddenly it hit me and I felt retarded. Nice idea
  7. Paid $10 (USD), got mail from paypal, but nothing from Squad.
  8. Awesome designs! Having a second set of wings is a really good idea for getting more lift. My newest design: Fast Plane Mk II With the demise of my first fast Plane, I've built another that can reach mach 5.5. My next goal is to break mach 10. .craft attached below. You'll need the tweaked SAS mod, Sunday Punch mod, and C7 pack (with capsule set to plane cockpit). Yeah, the first stage is a bit 'cheat-y' with the tiny airplane tanks but that rocket uses fuel like you wouldn't imagine. Don't adjust the throttle or it will blow up!
  9. Here's a place to share your space planes/rocket planes if you don't want to make a whole new thread for 'em. Feel free to discuss them here too. Please post a .craft and screenshot! Useful mods: The C-7 Aviation pack hs tons of wings, engines mini-tanks, and more! Long wings + Gravity Bomb adds more wings and a gravity bomb, strangely enough. I'll start this off: Plane/Rocket Fast Thing This is a plane/rocket hybrid. The rocket boosts the plane up to ~25,000m, where the air is very thin. The plane then detaches and begins flying. I have almost surpassed Mach 5 with this plane (1571.3 / speed of sound = mach 4.6175321). .craft file: lost . Trying to remake it...
  10. I have taken my last plane, stripped it of unnessescary parts like a parachute, and landing gear, added more fuel and created an insanely efficient plane. Again, it doesn't count because of the mods, but it's still pretty cool. Score: ((9*60+12)*81,960.8 )-100^3 = 44,242,361.6 points. Mods used: C7 Aerospace Pack (dropped green SAS because it was useless, replaced with normal)
  11. That would take forever, just getting up to a relatively low 40km orbit puts you 64,000,000,000,000 points in the hole (40,000^3). You'd need to orbit for days.
  12. I used different mods than in the OP, but it was fun so I figured I'd post anyways. ((6*60+40)*48323.6)-129^3 = 17,182,751. Would have gone farther, but crashed with a tank and a half of fuel. Here's a pic of my plane: Mods used: Tweaked SAS modules (the green SAS) C7 aerospace Pack (everything else)
  13. Since my other challenge on heavy lift vehicles seemed popular, I figured I'd make another. This one's on space planes. The Challenge: Build a space plane, boost it into stable orbit, and use the plane to de-orbit and land at KSC. The Rules: [li]The orbit must go around at least 2 times to prove it is stable[/li] [li]The landing site must be within sight of the Kerbal Space Center[/li] [li]The kerbonauts must survive landing from the plane. Powered assists are allowed, but no parachutes.[/li] The Details: You can use any plane mod you want, I suggest the C-7 pack though as it's very well made. You can use any other addons you want as well. List them in your post though. Add some screenshots of the ship, the orbit, and the landing. Video is also allowed. Please post .craft files so other people can fly your ships! Good luck!
  14. The staging gui is getting redone at some point anyways.
  15. I added the comsat mod to the OP as a goal of sorts.
  16. My guess is you would enter orbit, refine the orbital plane until you pass over where you want to hit, do a partial orbit and begin to deorbit on a path towards your target, and release the bombs. If you used the C7 pack, you could put a plane at the top so you could fly away to safety afterwards!
  17. Warning: huge image; A view of the last shuttle launch from a balloon. Found it on r/space. I cheated and hid my icons
  18. I had the explodey problem on a rocket as well, try sticking a dummy LFT under the decoupler.
  19. Nice ships, but next time use ALT+PrintScreen .
  20. Both those rockets are awesome, I tried to make a Saturn V myself but failed miserably. If it's ok I'll add them both to the main post.
  21. With the addition of space stations and other planets to KSP, rockets able to carry heavy payloads and other rockets are needed. The idea was this thread could be a central discussion for the development of standardized heavy lift rockets. Resources: Table of stock parts/thrust/weight Falcon Heavy (example of an HLV) Want something to lift? Here is a comsat mod, try and get it into orbit and return home! It's tricky, as not only does it add dead weight to the top of your rocket but also extra weight for a return stage above that. Good luck! Suggested submit format: [li]Rocket name[/li] [li]Picture/video[/li] [li]Quick description/layout of rocket[/li] [li]Rocket it's based on (if any) [/li] [li]Lift capacity [/li] [li]Stages (don't include dummy decouplers/tanks used to prevent the sticky bug)[/li] [li].craft file (if you want. Try to use a nice upload site, like the Repository, attachment (under posting box) or Dropbox. Mediafire is evil)[/li] [li]Mods needed[/li] I'll try and keep this page updated with the most liked designs, etc. The idea is this is the place you can come to grab a nice base for you rocket to lift your orbiters and such with. No use reinventing the wheel! Feel free to also use it to discuss heavy lift vehicles in general, though. I'll start: [li]Name: Orbiter MK1[/li] [li]Description: It uses a layout of 6 'stacks' around it's central payload. Each of these stacks is two stages, a two tank chemical engine followed by an SRB.[/li] [li]Lift capacity: 3 tanks, 1 engine. Can lift more.[/li] [li]Stages: 2 + 1 (orbiting stage)[/li] [li].craft file: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9540090/Orbiter%20MK%20I.craft (the fuel tanks on the bottom are just to keep it off the pad. Just hit space 'till it shoots. Should be an easy orbit.)[/li] [li]Mods: none[/li] Also: first post!
