I think energy being meant Plasma based life or noble gas based life. Plasma based beings probably live in interstellar space and they are probably invisible to us as the universe is primary consist of hydrogen gas and plasma. So they could be common. Some probably can live inside stars and use nuclear fusion from the star as energy.

IRL, some probes have artificial intelligence which decide on its own in a situation where broadcast is delayed or nonexistent. I think some probes will have this AI which act on its own and some probes do not. - - - Updated - - - Makeshift antennas hahahahhahahahaahhahah:D
