Is there a song that seems to be a theme for your Kerbals...?
caba111 replied to Fizwalker's topic in KSP1 Discussion
That really made me laugh XD -
Why are we discussing this right now? Recently, the game went through many technical improvements and is currently in a transitional stage between optimizations and the upcoming career mode (which had been planned for months). Seriously. We don't need to quantify the community's support of the developers. If you have a serious issue with KSP's, then send squad a polite email. Or, as others mentioned, at least make the thread more neutral and open to other opinions. One way or another, I don't think this needs to be a conversation.

I did something similar to this on my first stock Duna landing. I send a large ship with two tiny detachable landers to explore. To save weight, I used external seats instead of pods. However, it never occurred to me that kerbals in seats actually have weight. So, Jebediah can't actually fire up the engine without spinning out of control. He landed okay with his parachute, but I never got around to rescuing the poor guy. Here's a picture of him landed:

When the launch is just a LITTTTLLEE off.

So, there I was. Starting a new career save with some new mods and a whole new attitude. Here's a shot of my first launch- a mun flyby. With the resulting science from that launch, I get a few unlocks. I decide I am going to be returning 100% the science I earn from my second flight (a munar landing). When building the rocket for this endeavor, I manage to forget the batteries, although I do include a small antenna. No big deal, right? So here I am, descending WAY faster than my wee little 909 can slow me down. I impact the Mun at about 80 m/s. My pod's UF-edUP [Universal Failure (in Extremely Dangerous) Unplanned Places] system (patent pending) miraculously absorbs most of the damage. The idea behind the system is that a secondary set of landing legs will protect the pod and the oh-so-valuable science packages in the event of aggressive lithobreaking. Anyway, what's left of the lander (sans engine) and the pod settle down within a hundred feet of one another. This mission won't be a COMPLETE loss, I decided. Jeb (who apparently couldn't be more pleased with himself) bravely elected to record his innermost thoughts to broadcast to KSC. I had to send them SOMETHING, right? The radio crackles to life, and Jeb begins to speak. Just as he's finishing, the pod's batteries simultaneously go dry. The lights shut off, communication goes dead, and the pod's gyroscopes die, one by one. I was thinking "all right, 20 science out of all this. Not bad, not bad." Then, as the last gyroscope dies, the pod rolls over, blocking the hatch. Jebediah is trapped inside, and probably will stay that way for the next several years. Better yet, I can't effectively get him out until I unlock K.A.S. parts or something. I've just told him to put up a curtain with little stars on it. Now he thinks he's in space, at least. Anyway, this thread is going in general so you guys can share your stories. What's happened to you in KSP that was so painfully stupid that you laughed out loud?

Same here. It won't show up in sandbox.

Best Action/Hilarious Scenes You've Produced
caba111 replied to Pengwertle's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Well, this one takes a little explaining. I was having a trouble getting to the Mun, so I decided to aim my Mun rocket at the nearby mountains for some quick science. I'm not the best pilot, and screwed up the landing. I ejected the smaller tanks that were attached to the pylons around the main fuel tank to try and free the main lander. Right at the same time, it ran out of power. Just as it was about to roll off the hill, a single sas unit from the ejected tanks bounced over and wedged itself PERFECTLY so that the lander stopped rolling. Also, this. -
HOW to make kerbals stop re-spawning.

Thanks! Exactly what I was looking for. -

Hey, new guy here. I really like this thread, but I was curious to the full policies of the game... I know hacking or save file modifying is allowed to get ships to where they need to be if they are "legitimately capable". Does this mean that we can hyper-edit our fleet directly to our destination? Is hyperediting allowed after the ships have reached the initial goal? Also, what constitutes "legitimately capable"? Does that mean that any given ship must have enough Dv to get to wherever I want to send it to? Secondly, What's stopping someone from endlessly reinforcing their fleets? Are there any hypothetical resources to limit the production of ships? Furthermore, how do I go about joining the game? -
I think I'm going to try that. Bittersweet or not, it kind of ruins the mood of the game when your fallen hero, subject of much mourning and memorial, just kind of saunters back from the grave with a smile on his face. /time to get my REAL morality on
-
As of now, Jeb's regenerated. Miraculous. Maybe I can seal him in a cage or something and place him in his own memorial.

First Kerbal on Duna... For me, ever. Funny, since I've had the game for nearly a year. I've been to Jool, Eve, and many moons, but never Duna. Well, there's a first time for everything. Now to get him back with a lander that isn't horribly unbalanced (Kerbals weigh a lot... :/)

I currently have a certain "Richgas Kerman" sitting in the crew quarters. I'm thinking of sending him to Moho... To explore, er, you know... Holes.

I had already selected the rescue airship at one point through the tracking station, so that wasn't an option. I didn't realize that at the time though, so it was a bit of a shock when I realized I couldn't revert.

0.21.1 had been going pretty well. I installed FAR, and decided to play with a bit of responsibility this time around. No more wild killing of my Kerbals. No colony ships packed to the gills on their trial run. No vessels without parachutes or fail-safes. And most importantly, no abandoning Kerbals. At this point, I didn't realize that the recovery function had been added. I launched a few mun missions to kick off my campaign. There were 3 attempted manned launches. Mission 1 was a failure- it had to be ditched in orbit. Our brave kerbal Edery lived however, and awaited rescue. I have no pictures of mission 2, but it also had to be ditched during the gravity turn. Fererny survived. Mission 3 was a complete success! Jebediah came down safely only a few kilometers off the coast of KSC. Not realizing I could reclaim ships, I developed a recovery blimp for rescue. A few revisions later, I set off to rescue the crew of the first blimp (structural failure) and the crews of flights 2 and 3 (1 was too far away to be bothered with). All the kerbals got aboard safely. To celebrate my success, I put the engines on high and went back to base at full speed. I looked away from the screen for a minute, and realized that I was descending extremely fast. Before I could touch the keyboard, the airship crashed into the water, obliterating the cabin- I didn't even have time to take a screenshot. All aboard were lost- Jeb, Fererny, and Edery. I was shocked. Seriously... This game made me legitimately upset. I knew I had to remember them somehow. I give you... The Jebediah Memorial I put it next to the old mk1 pod... It was dangerous and unstable. Just what Jeb would've wanted. Goodbye Jeb. May you always be remembered (until you regenerate, at least).

Was there any amount of optimization done for .21?
caba111 replied to Rocketeer Hopeful's topic in KSP1 Discussion
The devs changed the way rendering works. Now the planets render fewer details when you are farther away TLDR: Now you get a LOT less lag when orbiting a body -
No idea. I don't think so though.

I just wanted to share this awesome post card, credit to Steam. This was displaying on the store.

Mission [CLASSIFIED] has attained Laythe orbit. Finally, the mysteries of the Joolian system will be unveiled! Probe 1 has been ejected. Touchdown in 12 minutes and 26 seconds. We totally meant to land in the middle of the ocean with only 1 solar panel. Of COURSE we did. Well, here's what we have to show for it... Water. Water everywhere.
