  1. Welcome to the forums, yete1.

I don't know what is wrong with your spacecraft as I haven't tried to get to Minmus yet, maybe a picture taken in game could help us more to identify the problem.

I would suggest taking a look at some of the Minmus capable craft and take some ideas from them as that can help.

Have fun playing KSP and go blow up some rockets! :sticktongue:

  2. Welcome to the forums, 619Soldier.

It doesn't matter how far you have gone, as long as you are enjoying the game.

Hope you are able to land on the Mun soon, I suggest the How To section here on the forums.

Have fun playing KSP and go blow up some rockets! :sticktongue:

  3. Another news release from SpaceX regarding the Merlin 1 engine failure from the Falcon 9 launch earlier today.

The Dragon spacecraft is on its way to the International Space Station this morning and is performing nominally following the launch of the SpaceX CRS-1 official cargo resupply mission from Cape Canaveral, Florida at 8:35PM ET Sunday, October 7, 2012.

Approximately one minute and 19 seconds into last night's launch, the Falcon 9 rocket detected an anomaly on one first stage engine. Initial data suggests that one of the rocket's nine Merlin engines, Engine 1, lost pressure suddenly and an engine shutdown command was issued. We know the engine did not explode, because we continued to receive data from it. Panels designed to relieve pressure within the engine bay were ejected to protect the stage and other engines. Our review of flight data indicates that neither the rocket stage nor any of the other eight engines were negatively affected by this event.

As designed, the flight computer then recomputed a new ascent profile in real time to ensure Dragon's entry into orbit for subsequent rendezvous and berthing with the ISS. This was achieved, and there was no effect on Dragon or the cargo resupply mission.

Falcon 9 did exactly what it was designed to do. Like the Saturn V (which experienced engine loss on two flights) and modern airliners, Falcon 9 is designed to handle an engine out situation and still complete its mission. No other rocket currently flying has this ability.

It is worth noting that Falcon 9 shuts down two of its engines to limit acceleration to 5 g's even on a fully nominal flight. The rocket could therefore have lost another engine and still completed its mission.

We will continue to review all flight data in order to understand the cause of the anomaly, and will devote the resources necessary to identify the problem and apply those lessons to future flights. We will provide additional information as it becomes available.

Dragon is expected to begin its approach to the station on October 10, where it will be grappled and berthed by Akihiko Hoshide of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency and Expedition 33 Commander Sunita Williams of NASA. Over the following weeks, the crew will unload Dragon's payload and reload it with cargo to be returned to Earth. Splashdown is targeted for October 28.

    Souce: Here.

  4. A statement from SpaceX regarding the engine anomaly.

Approximately one minute and 19 seconds into last night’s launch, the Falcon 9 rocket detected an anomaly on one first stage engine. Initial data suggests that one of the rocket’s nine Merlin engines, Engine 1, lost pressure suddenly and an engine shutdown command was issued immediately. We know the engine did not explode, because we continued to receive data from it. Our review indicates that the fairing that protects the engine from aerodynamic loads ruptured due to the engine pressure release, and that none of Falcon 9’s other eight engines were impacted by this event.

As designed, the flight computer then recomputed a new ascent profile in real time to ensure Dragon’s entry into orbit for subsequent rendezvous and berthing with the ISS. This was achieved, and there was no effect on Dragon or the cargo resupply mission.

Falcon 9 did exactly what it was designed to do. Like the Saturn V, which experienced engine loss on two flights, Falcon 9 is designed to handle an engine out situation and still complete its mission.

The ISS is currently over Libya and Dragon is passing over the South Atlantic Ocean.

  5. So, I was reading some Wikipedia articles about planets (hey, there is new things about them quite often; and the last time I learned about the Solar System in school, Pluto was still the 9th and last planet :D ) and so I learned that Pluto have 4 more moons!

So I imagined, and would like to see in KSP, twin dwarves planets, like Pluto and Charon... With both having their own little moon  I'm not sure it's physically possible, but the idea sounds silly enough to me.

Did you mean Pluto only has 4 moons, it was that amount the last time I checked?

Anyway, I think the devs are planning to do a similar sort of structure to our Solar System if I got my information right.

  6. Surprised about how few people have actually mentioned Red Dwarf - especially seeing as Series X is currently going on. Fully advise anyone here who lives in Britain to catch Dave at 9pm on Thursday or Dave Ja Vu at 10pm, and watch it.

I watch it and find it great, can't wait until the next episode a few days from now.

It's insanely funny and is amazing to watch, you should try it.

  7. Update from SFN:

    MONDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2012

    1735 GMT (1:35 p.m. EDT)

Dragon's GNC bay door, which houses the craft's rendezvous sensors and grapple fixture, successfully opened as planned last night, according to a SpaceX spokesperson.

The spacecraft uses thermal and optical sensors to navigate in close proximity to the International Space Station, and the grapple fixture is required for the robot arm to grasp the capsule and move it into position on the lab's Harmony module.

So we know that Dragon can actually berth to the ISS now, as they was being a bit quiet about this earlier.

  8. But fun enough that you have 3600 posts in this forum?

Maybe he has more fun on the forums than in game?

On Topic: I still haven't gotten to land on the Mun but I've installed MechJeb for next time so I know the real altitude without going in IVA move as I can't control things properly in IVA because I'm rubbish.

  9. Welcome to the forums ZeldaCorporation.

    1. You need 5 posts and a srcipt runs every so often to promote people from Curious George to a Bottle Rocketeer with permissions to do more.

    2. It's a effective way of keeping out trolls/spammers and they won't waste their time if the posts have to be approved and it's to stop spam getting through all together.

    3. HarvesteR has said that the bug is being fix and it might come in the 0.17.1 patch.

Have fun playing KSP and go blow up some rockets! :sticktongue:

  10. Thanks for the reply, I just wanted to make it more fun and a REASON to get them back home when the career mode is released, because the oxygen runs out and they die, there for you have to pay for new recruits for your disasters! XD

Try the Zoxygen mod, you will find that mod is exactly what you want, it adds consumables to the game.

    Thanks.

  11. I think the game is very awesome for it's early development but I still find things I'd like to see happen in KSP:

    1. New parts (The thing I would suggest is Shock-absorbers, oxygen tanks.).

    2. IVA in EVA (AKA first person view). This has been mentioned already but I'd still like to point it out.

    3. More planets and more moons for Jool.

    4. Labels! Yes labels! We want to be able to customize our space-craft so why not a custom label? Maybe an image file system?

    5. Customizable gear for our kerbals (Type of helmet aerial, space etc., RCS fuel amount, oxygen amount.).

    6. As stated I also want an oxygen system! Maybe a way to make some when landed on other planets?

Thank you very much for reading! If squad reads this then please take my ideas into consideration! :D

    1. Planned for nearly every update I'm guessing.

    2. Sounds good and is an intresting idea.

    3. The devs are intending to add them, just be patient.

    4. Sounds good.

    5. Sounds good.

    6. The devs have stated that they are not adding consumables, try a mod for that.

Thanks and please read sticky posts before you post your suggestion.

    Hope this helps.
