  2. DMagic, I have a request for your ScienceAnimate module: a boolean that checks if the part is in a stable orbit. Just like it's stupid that stock KSP doesn't allow atmospheric readings when not on a suborbital trajectory (which you fixed), I find it stupid that you don't have to be any sort of stable orbit to do your readings. It makes orbiting unnecessary and thus science gathering in space far too simple. Some parts might not work with this system though, so that's why I request a boolean. Thanks for all the great work so far.
  3. I have once had a sessions that didn't have engine animation/sound. Restarting solved it and I never had it again. The solar panels need a normal map. Look a bit too flat right now.

Darkside I almost voted for this one on account for its good and original design (love the spherical tank with the effect), but the bolts on the bottom/top bits look low quality which drags the rest down. Robotengineer It's not bad, but it didn't grab me like the other designs do. The colors scheme doesn't feel right. StarVision The detail between the spherical tank and the rest clashes too much. The former is super-detailed and the latter too bland. Ven This copies the style of the stock tanks, making it a bit unoriginal. On the other hand, and this was the clincher, it emulates the stock style to a T. Find you own style is a challenge, but so is wearing someone else's like it's your own.
  8. Could anyone explain why the trunk of the first version Dragon spacecraft, the one already flying, is slightly rotated. The LazTek version has it, as do real photos. Why isn't it perfectly symmetrical?
  9. But the version in those screenshots looks much smaller than this. It looks about Dragon V2 sized to me.
  10. Cool new parts. You should rename the threat though. It's so much more than just the Kn2 Cockpit now. It'd be a shame if people would miss all those extra parts because they thought it was just a single cockpit part.
  11. While the craft above use every exploit in the book to do what they do, realistic looking SSTO planes are rather ridiculous are indeed very easy though compared to real-life. They have thrust-to-weight ratios similar to real rockets, which is very unrealistic (this allows them to be first stage lifters for medium-sized rockets, which is just ridiculous). The Turbojet also acts as a mix of a ramjet and a turbojet. It can lift off under its own power like a turbojet, but produce thrust up to a ridiculous Mach 7. Separating the two would solve this problem. If you want to go fast with an airbreathing engine, you'll first have to get it up to quite a decent speed before it starts producing meaningful thrust. Also jets are modeled as if they were rocket engines, even though they work quite differently. In reality all jet engines lose thrust as the air gets thinner in high altitude, while Isp remains the same. However in KSP they lose fuel efficiency not thrust. As a result you can easily reach Mach 3 with any jet engine if you climb high enough.

  13. Where did you get that from? It has historical antecedents and if the Kerbol system is ever expanded then solar panels would be truly useless for the outer planets.
  14. How does the parachute sequence work. The Soyuz needs to fire small booster to slow it down enough for the crew to get out alive. Does the Dragon use its SuperDraco's for this? Cool, but a lots of spelling errors though
  15. Close up of the bottom part of the dashboard containing physical buttons. Above this is the joystick and above that another set of buttons. Looks like a lot of the most important functions are physical buttons.
  16. Its aerodynamic during the launch sequence. By making it a hinged cover, I think they just want to make as much of the craft reusable (otherwise you'd have to decouple the nose cone and leave it in space) and it might also help keep the craft more stable during reentry and landing.
  17. I think the VASIMR could be introduced without making it OP and still making it a realistic implementation of the system as we know it now. It's all about power requirement. While a real-life ion thruster can run off the equivalent of two OX-4L solar panels even the smallest version of VASIMR needs massive panels like these: The bigger, manned version can't even be done with solar panels instead requiring a small nuclear reactor to power them. Both thus need to add a lot of mass to even function. That reduces a lot of their OPness. The system has a good payoff, but it requires more skill to get it into orbit.
  18. Love the new look. Looks really sexy and properly 21st century. Since manned space travel is very much about getting public opinion on our side, this is not a bad thing. Can't wait the fly the LazTek version.

  20. This was similar to an idea I was having. Sadly I don't know how code so it never came of anything. In my idea I also connected life support to living space. All pods/crew tanks provided life support for half the crew capacity. For example: a Mk1 Pod would only produce half the life support needed to keep a Kerbal alive forever, so one would need at least another 1-man pod to produce enough life support. A Mk1-2 pod would provide 1.5 Kerbals worth of life support, etc. That way the problem of putting crews in tiny spacecraft for years and years would be solved.
