British Al-lu-min-ee-um American A-lu-mi-num I think Americans should stop claiming to speak English and say they speak American since its almost a different dilect.
-
Got to think in three dimensions. Easiest way for me is to keep the thought in mind that the 'target' is down. Keeping that thought in mind while maneuvering tends to free you up from 2 dimensional thinking.

See America leads the world just not always in good things. =P

The obesity epidemic isn\'t just an American phenomena it\'s a work wide problem. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epidemiology_of_obesity

Not sure if troll.

Put pontoons on it and land it in the bay.

[0.17] ExPI: Space Stations [0.4], Interplanetary Probes [0.1.2]
Sabactus replied to Pelf's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Put a mechjeb on it and a decoupler. You can just detach the capsule after you get it in orbit and the mechjeb will let you continue to interact with it, -
I can remove it in little pieces ^.^ The 'bombs' are NovaPunch mini boosters with nova\'s probe kit parachutes and radial decouplers. Everything else is from the latest C7 pack. The aircraft has an incredible range especially if you put it in the upper atmosphere and the drogue chutes give the bombs vertical trajectory soon after released so it can be used as a high level bomber as well as low. Also decided to name it the Strato-bomber. I\'ve included the specs that I was able to achieve with it in the first post.
-
It\'s fun too. You can load up to 12 of the 'bombs' but it causes sever stability and drag issues.

This is just a fun design. A long range bomber with fairly precise release of its ordinance. (Just watch the tower on launch, it like to drift into it) Cruising altitude: 45,000 m Cruising speed: 2,350 m/s or 8460 km/h Range: 31,500 km In flight 1st bomb away All ordinance away Impact! (should have released while lower to get a better shot)

Could use Apollo style probes

I\'m having trouble stabilizing around my target. I end up just orbiting around it and when I try to kill my velocity the ship just seems to randomly tumble.

Practicing planetary rendezvous, any other schools of thought?

I like how he understates the possibility of catastrophic failure. -
My World Record Attempt - Circumnavigation of Kerbin with a Cart!
Sabactus replied to Phoxtane's topic in KSP1 Discussion
If you\'re talking about the mountains SE of the isthmus, head south than pass south of them along the coast. Its pretty much a straight shot and fairly level. -
High speeds are necessary. For illustration lets consider this. Lets say you get a craft up to 1,000,000 m/s (as the game is now this is dicey at best) that 1,000 km/s. Earths closest approach to Mars is 56,000,000 km. The average distance is 225,000,000 km. So, assuming closest approach, it will take you 56,000 seconds or 933 minutes or ~39days to reach Mars at its closest approach. At average it climbs to ~156 days. Not inconceivable but remember 1,000,000 m/s is very unstable currently. Now for interplanetary. Light speed is 299,792,458 m/s. Alpha Centauri is 4.24 light years away. 1% C is ~2,997,924 m/s. At that speed it would take 424 years to reach the nearest star. We need speeds of like .7 C to make it remotely conceivable. Not taking accelerating time into account even at that speed it would take over 6 years to get there, not including relativistic effects.

I was under 2x and was using MechJab be keep me on prograde. He keeps up pretty well it just gets to a point where the RCS blocks can\'t put out enough power to counteract the induced wobble. And I meantioned light speed cause that is my goal or at least an appreciable fraction of it When you say the universe moving around the ship it sounds like warp drive >.<
-
Well today I wanted to see if I could attain an appreciable factors of the speed of light and also test to see if the Kraken is still lurking. Bastards still alive. Hit 35,500 m/s and the ship suddenly decided that it was a good time to start doing cartwheels. He\'s going to have to be tamed before we can even consider interplanetary voyages much less interstellar.

My World Record Attempt - Circumnavigation of Kerbin with a Cart!

I have a small decoupler mounted on top of it and then mounted that to a kinda A frame that I used as a lander. Landed on the Mun hit the decouple button and the rover dropped onto the surface. Done traveling for the night. Current location: Waypoint 4 http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/forum/index.php?topic=9636.msg144482#msg144482 -
My World Record Attempt - Circumnavigation of Kerbin with a Cart!
Sabactus replied to Phoxtane's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Using just the cart and the cmd capsule from the Munar Institute of Technology pack all you have to do is turn on the SAS and toggle precision controls and you can hit 150+ on the Mun. You get some real Dukes of Hazard jumps to, I meant like 2km long jumps. Just while airborne level the cart out and make sure wheels are aligned to your direction of travel and she lands like a feather. My screen shot shows 145m/s but I\'ve gotten it up to 180m/s before.
