Maneuver node shortcut key
TinfoilChef replied to LethalDose's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
This would be a great addition. Especially if it included incorporating Precise Node into the stock game (not holding my breath but it'd be great) -
So What Exactly Is Delta-V?
TinfoilChef replied to Kennedy988's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Y'know, this deserves a sticky someplace where new players can easily find it. Some of the best explanations of Delta V I've seen are here, broken down so that new players can easily grasp what it means and it's importance. -
definitely yes. a nice clean, no frills, only get asked "are you sure" once thing would be great. This reminds me of a program I wrote (seems like a thousand years ago) in which I had a bit of fun with the quit function. No matter how you exited it, you got sent through 37 layers of variations on "are you sure?" in which the program begged not to be shut down. I know, I know. but it was like one of the first things I wrote when learning visual c++ 4.0. seems I was the only one that thought it was hilarious.

is this a plane or a rocket?
TinfoilChef replied to lukeoftheaura's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I think I'd just split the difference and aim for a bit of funny and call it a "Pocket" (Plane Rocket) -
The first time I did a gravity maneuver was back in 0.16 and it was a complete accident. I had a ship returning from Minmus run out of fuel, leaving it in a highly elliptical orbit with a 65km periapsis and apoapsis somewhere between the moon and Minmus. Aerobraking would have eventually done it but only if I stayed in real time for 20 orbits (this was before physics time warp was a thing). I realized it's orbit crossed the moon's in two places. I time warped ahead a week or so and a moon encounter changed the orbit to one that had much lower AP & PE. A bit more time warp led to another encounter that lowered it even more, making an aerobraking possible that took less than 20 passes to re-enter. Since then I try to take advantage of gravity assist if possible but I don't plan them out much ahead of time.

I don't miss that at all. Stability rocks.

resource mining mod (not just like kethane etc)
TinfoilChef replied to noobsrtoast's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
and paragraph breaks. For the love of whatever you love, use paragraph breaks. Long blobs of text, be they grammatically correct or not, are made MUCH easier to read with a paragraph break every few sentences. -
Career mode is broken.
TinfoilChef replied to Talavar's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
You could always use the custom difficulty mode to turn down rewards, increase penalties and reduce the starting cash. Then there's the idea of making the whole thing a story.. proceeding in some kind of logical progression toward some eventual (pick your own) goal or a set of goals. If all you do is see how fast you can fill out the tech tree I can understand how that would get boring. Scott Manley's Interstellar Quest is a shining example of this kind of gameplay. I can hardly wait until he starts using 0.25 to see what series of adventures he comes up with next. Not only is the man a KSP genius, he's one hell of a storyteller as well. -
can Squad add comets to KSP?
TinfoilChef replied to Korkin's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Oh I'm certain that they could do it. The question is "will they?". From what I've seen so far... probably not any time soon. -
[HOCgaming] "Flying Blind" Footage Submissions Thread!
TinfoilChef replied to HOC's topic in KSP Fan Works
Perhaps you might try recording videos the way I and most people I watch do it. Instead of doing all your commentary in post production, Record the commentary live as you record the video. This way you have no idea how things turned out in advance and your commentary will be IMO more "genuine". Not that post commentary isn't genuine, simply that commentary recorded live as you do something has a better feel to it and seems less rehearsed. -
Several of my youtube subscribers told me about this game that I should check out because they were certain I'd like it. I searched youtube for videos of it and found White Owl's first season in 0.13. After a few hours of watching that I got the 0.13.3 demo. The next day I started doing KSP videos, derping all over the place and making tons of n00b mistakes. A week or so later I had the cash and bought it, right around the time 0.16 came out. With Minecraft, I consider KSP one of the two best investment's I've ever made in games.

VAB Camera Angle Option
TinfoilChef replied to TinfoilChef's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
One of the really frustrating part of this change is that rotating the camera doesn't help nearly as much as it should. It seems like the camera is locked on a point just to one side of the actual center of mass of the vehicle under construction. It always looks crooked or tilted one way or the other and I have a really hard time making sure that parts are aligned the way I need them to be. Placing struts for example, has become almost a nightmare trying to get them straight where it used to be the simplest thing in the world to do. The old camera orientation was much better -
Would it be possible to add "Current TWR" to the list of values that we can add to custom windows? Currently "Surface TWR" is the only TWR stat available. I know that KER shows "Current TWR" and "Throttle TWR" however I really don't want to add KER to my ship and have another info window just to get one stat

I've kept quiet about change in the VAB camera angle since it was introduced in 0.24. I've done my best to adapt to it and figure out how to do things in spite of the different camera angles making them more difficult. Unfortunately these efforts have been failing. This is the view I'm accustomed to. This is the view that we have now. Because the camera angle is off at an angle I now find it much more difficult to get parts aligned the way I need them to be. I've also found it to be much more difficult to get things like struts placed anywhere close to as straight as they have to be to prevent inducing unwanted roll in flight. I have to say that as much as I've tried I cannot understand the reason why this change was made. Is it supposed to be more "artistic" or something? I personally would rather it was simply functional like it was before and leave artistic views for the player to arrange in flight. I've looked but have not found any setting in the .cfg file that makes it possible to change back to the old straight on camera angle. Can we PLEASE have such an option?

What would you want in the next update (0.90)?
TinfoilChef replied to EvilotionCR2's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Mineable resources on all planets, moons, Etc and parts that make it possible to mine, process/convert into fuel, oxidizer, monoprop, materials for building new parts etc... Yeah. I know. Squad shelved the resources project a while back. It doesn't mean they totally abandoned the idea. Yeah. I know. Kethane. Still, having what Squad talked about for resources would be, IMO, a great addition to the game. Yeah. I know. Lots of people don't want that added. That's the beauty of KSP. You play your way, I'll play my way, we'll both have fun. -
I can see it now. Somebody is testing a new rover design. They accidentally (as in really unintentional) bump into the VAB or hangar and the whole space center goes up. Yeah, that's gonna be funny the first few dozen times, then it's gonna get old and be turned off.

While I'm no guru or anything, I've been using computers to one degree or another since 1975 yet still, I haven't the foggiest idea how to do what you just said.
-
I tend to doubt that possible cause because i'm having the same issue on the laptop as I do on the desktop and the laptop is never used for anything but email / web browsing
-
you're right that gong back and forth is unproductive. My main point is that text should *always* have a high contrast to the background color and classic black on white (or the reverse) makes the most sense to me.
-
For you it's not and that's great. For you. For me, that text is almost invisible. Also, not to nitpick but tumbler is a website and that particular tumbler is a KSP owned & operated website. There wasn't an option in the mandatory prefix to specify that. I intensely dislike trying to read anything on reddit and only visit the site to share an occasional link. As for reading it on the forums.... One thing I've always wondered is why split promotional efforts by sending people to tumblr when it makes so much more sense IMO to promote the forum link in the first place. My desktop monitor is a 19 inch Dell running at 1600 x 900. I doubt however that the monitor has anything to do with it because I have the exact same difficulty when trying to read it on my laptop (Toshiba Satellite Pro) at 1366x768. [resists temptation to have one of those "back in my day" moments talking about when monitor resolution was 320x200 and uphill both ways] Also I doubt monitor size has much relevance because I almost never full-screen my browser. with that much screen real estate, I don't see the point. Instead I keep it around 1024x768 or so on both machines. I don't consider #6E7173 to be "that dark" at all. it's a faded light gray and as such is nearly invisible on a white background. However when it's replaced with #000000 it becomes crisp, clear, and easy to read. thanks for that at least. the closer the text color can be to #000000 the better.

So another devnote has arrived and once again I'm forced to copy it into notepad in order to be able to read it. Why? Because of something that has become entirely too common on websites these days, the text color is light gray on a white background. This low contrast between the text color and the background color makes it extremely difficult if not bloody well impossible to read. Why web designers started doing this is beyond me. Here's the devnote as it appears, using color #6E7173 (light gray) on a white background: http://imgur.com/sHTHGjx Now here's the same page using good old #000000 (flat black) for the text color: http://imgur.com/BPnNivk The first one is so washed out that I cannot read it. The second is easy to read. Would whomever is in charge of that site PLEASE consider using #000000 as the text color?

Sorry I've been so long between videos. I've had . . . difficulties. Not only that but I never got episode 2 of first contract posted so here it is.... and of course, what brings me here today is episode 3 now that i've finally gotten updated to 0.24.2
