  1. well i dont know if it supports smooth groups from other modeling programs... All i do in blender is select the faces i want to smooth and hit smooth...no complicated way of doing it (though there is a option to make it complicated with vertex grouping etc). cheers,
  2. how is learning to model in blender any different in automax? For modeling like this you will need just a few keys...and they are all lableled with commensense shortcuts right out of the box... rotate? r, extrude? e, scale? s, grab? g And nearly all the tools you will probably ever use are right at the left hand on the keyboard... Left hand keyboard-right hand mouse... I often wonder if the people that tell noobs into modeling that blender is somehow hard to learn, fired up the program went i dont know what to do and quite. Then fired up max thought hey this is a paid for pro tool, spent hours looking at vids (especially their texture and uv system), and taught themselves the program... And just so anyone thinking the keys are different, the new 2.5 blender has key mapping that you can change on the fly to mimic maya's keys (confusing for me though)
  3. what do you mean smooth groups? It supports me smoothing a paticular part of my mesh and the rest not when i model in blender and export it to dae... example:
  4. when i import your model it imports as a single mesh (no collision mesh). As well it looks like the collision mesh got merged with your 'normal' mesh. Check your export settings and make sure its not trying to group by material or the like and to keep obj as obj and not converge them. And if it does converge them tell it not to remove doubles. By not removing doubles it makes it easier to 'fix'. Also i was told to make the collision mesh named node_collider... I have 'fixed' or what i think is fixed with your files, did it in blender. But to see if it truely works and what your trying to do, i would need the texture file (though i am using a uvtestgrid right now) and your part.cfg file this is what it looks like in kpsviewer thingy....
  5. blender you wont go wrong....free powerfull tool (some learning curve required but not big)
  6. great idea, but definately need to optimize that mesh of yours, just looking at it i can see at least half of those polys gone I await your landing gear that can accomodate a rocket under it...
  7. i use blender. I have max and maya but i usually only use them for 'conversion' in projects that require the use of those tools... If your broke, you will not find a better application than blender for free. You get modeling/animation/game engine/rendering all in one, and its a standalone folder, meaning you can put it on a thumb drive and use it anywhere...no installing on the other pcs needed.
  8. try blender.... Its free modeling app that will let you load it up and look at it...
  9. bested my last time... stock parts hit 100549m, in 2min 16sec, 2219m/s highest speed
  10. just got into the game today, and found your thread... on stock parts was able to hit 100,822m in 2min 25sec, with a highest speed achieved of 2095m/s
