My idea would be that you can build your own parts within KSC, and those would have awesome safety and efficiency (depending on your Development budget) but would generally be VERY expensive (buy facility, workers, parts... all in one of course, we dont want micromanagement). Alternatively you could comission other "companies" to build them for you and, depending on the company, safety, efficiency and price would vary. With this system you can invest in critical mission components and save up on non-critical ones for when money is a thing. Also, investing in the wrong things or not investing at all will bring you not-so-succesful missions. What do you guys think?

When Deadly reentry is actually deadly.
henryrasia replied to ravensoul6@hotmail.com's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I am not aware of the situation (screenshots, maybe?) but MAYBE you'll be able to do some really weird maneuver and use an inverse gravity assist on the Mun to slow yourself down? (800 m/s of Dv is pretty little though...). Another suggestion would be to have an aerobraking trajectory that does not kill you but just barely puts you into an orbit. Then you can do several passes until the speed safely slows to a safe descent speed. Hope this helped! Or do it the awesome way: Slow down as much as possible and then leave the capsule stranded in a solar orbit. Then launch a rescue mission to rendezvous with it ASAP around the sun and bring them back! -
Just a quick question for anyone that knows: What computer part (CPU, GPU, RAM, other?) does KSP use the most? And are there limits to the performance (as in and intel i9 99999X 10 core or whatever not help)? Thanks for any answers!

My new respect for the reworked landing legs
henryrasia replied to dudester28's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I would rather have suspension landing legs as opposed to the current shock-absorbing ones. The difference is that the first one will push the craft back to fully extended legs after landing as opposed to just compressing. I would also like, whenever tweakables come around, smart suspensions: the ones that extend or retract to get the craft perfectly levelled (of course this wouldn't work for mountain sides, but it's pretty useful when your lander is just-slightly-too crooked because of a slight hill) -
The funniest text you encountered in KSP

Hey everyone, I'd just like to have this thread as my public database so that people can get inspiration. Also I ask if anyone could help bring up ship types that I've might have forgotten or suggest removing unnecessary ones I would be very grateful. I'll start by listing all possible ship types below and later create the shortest acronym system for KSP ships, so let's get started! Lifter Space Tug Space Station Space Shuttle Plane Lander Satellite Probe Car/Rover Base any more? My reasoning is that the acronym signifies a large grouping while the name might have classes to be more specific: "1, 2, or 3 letter acronym here" "some general name" AA Hawk, for example.

Indeed in no other game landing on the moon is "A small step for [in the eyes of] the community, a great leap for [me]". Congratulations!

Very cool idea! but I've been looking around and I found this one, which is a tad better: http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/47794 It uses the "build your own" style and has cockpit interiors. And it comes with Kerbals! Anyway, thanks for bringing this up, and if you can top that design... Please do!

Sorry if this is common knowledge, but what is the difference between volumes and files? And how can you create and edit a file within a volume? Because so far I've been writing on the volume itself it seems. Also, would anyone be interested on doing a full on tutorial on kOS, written or in video form? Thanks.

The Archive Purpose ------ Code ------ Author ------- Tester --------- ------ ------- ------- --------- ------ ------- ------- --------- ------ ------- -------

Dear fellow KSP-ers, today I present to you a simple idea that may become very useful in the future, should you cooperate. Since the kOS mod was released the final compromise between simplicity and effort in what autopilots are concerned. Thus I propose the Great Archive, where I will do my best to keep track of the best programs in a variety of criteria, listed below. So if you want to contribute to the community with your genius sky-crane landing procedure or aircraft auto-land code, or if you just want to share an alternative or even just learn please feel free to PM me about it. ________ Personnel: Administration: - - - Testers: - - - ________ Guidelines: Administrators are responsible for maintaining this thread and keep up the Archive in the next post. Testers are assigned programs by administrators to test and rate on: Genius - (how amazing, original, and surprisingly useful it is) Usefulness - (how useful it actually is in the situations it was designed for) Optimization - (simplicity in byte size and/or structure and design) Generalization - (how well it performs in different crafts, characteristics, and situations) Any advice, criticism, and suggestions are very welcome. ____ Great thanks to SQUAD for the game and KevinLaity for the mod.

My closest call was when I launched into a (unplanned) rendezvous orbit. I ended *right* next to a satellite of mine and was completely and utterly amazed. It is really rare though, so enjoy the fact that it happened to you without previous planning.

I just wanted to start this to see how developed the KSP community already is. So I'll start: Scott "Manly" Kerman - Scott Manley - Former astronomer & epic youtuber Danny Kerman - Danny2462 - Funny youtuber, bug attracter

True, very true. Maybe I can move my concern from nostalgia baby-crying to a more adressable request: The game at the moment is lacking of any true motivation other than your own will. I understand this will be adressed with missions, but those are equally dry and void without some kind (ANY kind) of backstory. KSP stands for Kerbal Space Program, this means it is the first and (thanks a lot Nova) only space agency. This must, must give the player the feel he is exploring a vast universe full of discoveries to make through different means, but also that is is impacting (and being impacted by) their world technologically, economically, politically, and even public opinion and interest. What is the point of landing on the Mun if there is no giant welcome parades and news headlines for days? Once again I ask what others, veterans and newcomers, have to say about this. Maybe I'm wrong and KSP is destined to turn into something else (and if so, what else?). Thank you.
-
First and foremost: I adore this game and its developers. But, I cannot help but notice how the vibe, the feel of playing KSP has changed. Not for the better or worse (if anyone shares this thinking let me know the adjective) but different. Before it felt like a very funky game where you strapped rockets together and hoped for the best. Also the Mun and other places felt more gamey, more Kerbal. Also the lack of advanced things led people to come up with crazy (and very Kerbal) solutions such as the landing-leg-hugger docking style. Now KSP feels more real and human, much less Kerbal (and explosions and failures don't quite make up for it). Do you feel the same? Is this good or bad? Or maybe the simple fact that I'm now experienced and KSP hasn't had its "campaign" developed that creates this feeling. i am really curious of what veterans and newcomers think of this, so please leave a comment. Thank you.

I request thee a flag, please, that reads Sirius AeroSpace in a futuristic (don't overdo it) font. Also a fiery wolf with star eyes is staring back at me from the top left. The star (eye) can have a lens flare (again don't overdo it please), and please, PLEASE don't make it stiff, like following an obvious template from the real world. I want it to "flow" and be natural. Thanks in advance and please ask if there is any doubts. Thank you.
-
Please, dear sires, may you please re-scale this flag? I honestly have no idea how to. Thanks in advance. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/05/Flag_of_Brazil.svg

Wait... do you mean that Kerbals are 10 human meters tall? (o.0) Back on topic. I believe a submarine base would solve all problems. Water absorbs radioactivity quite well. Kerbal Rapture FTW!

I would like dynamic planets. So aurorae, weather, waves, storms, cities, etc would all make you feel like you are THERE, not in some stage. However I see no way of this happening without ridiculous lag, if not crashes. So I guess once the Unity limitations / 32 bit issue / no multi-core / optimization isn't dealt with I want nothing.
-
Awwww. As a Paradox fan this reminds me of Victoria II, with newspapers describing what is happening in the world. It would be so cool to have this in career mode. I assume you also want it to keep track of stats? Great work!

Yeah, no. You see Eve hasn't been finished yet and AFAIK Nova wants to make Eve hell with killing winds, "oil" (propellum) oceans and rain, radioactivity everywhere, lightening, you name it. To this regard Duna or even Laythe are better options because the occasional sandstorms in Duna would be tickles compared to Eve. Besides Eve has no water, all the oceans are oil/plutonium. Duna at least *can* have water beneath the surface (and definetly in the ice caps). Another thing terraforming Duna would be a peace of cake compared to terraforming Eve (I can't eventhink about doing that). Otherwise I appreciate your thoughts. Your data gathering was useful. I thought Duna was more like Kerbin than it is.

Moon Rocks and Tall Grass Is There Any More Like This?
henryrasia replied to hotmailcompany52's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Yes, there are, but it depends on your terrain scatter density in the settings page. With 100% you'll need an extreme computer to deal with the lag it makes, but you'll have thousands of trees, tall grasses, and rocks.
