1. I guess I should've clarified better, that's my recreation of the 130t variant, not the 70t variant... this one in the image: I am making some modifications, if anything the boosters were too small...
2. There's a fellow over in a topic I started (this thread) named 0jam3290 that is working on making the Ares I and Ares V, so you may be interested in contacting him.
3. That's pretty good! I wasn't able to recreate it according to the dimensions (to kerbin scale, anyways), but you seem to have gone in the right direction. Can you simulate the engine failure that happened the other night too? But in all seriousness, good thing that failure didn't jeopardize the mission..
4. Well, feel free to PM me if you're interested and have some designs, and that goes for anyone else, I'll find a way for all of us to communicate and collaborate if we get a few people interested.
5. Well, I'm on as of this post, and nobody is on other than someone from the US in Laythe who has their Microphone disabled... Wish more people would come on sometimes. EDIT: If I was an intelligent person (and god knows I'm not), I would've realized that the person in Laythe is the Administrator (Majiir). D'OH!
6. I want to apologize in advance to mods if this isn't the right area for this, but it is related to KSP, and other Spaceflight Sims. I wanted to pose this question to people on this forum, because it seems to me to be a project worth pursuing if there's an interest in it. In my opinion, people who are interested in Space and Spaceflight are a seperate demographic. They have other interests, but "space fanatics" seem to form their own separate group, unlike anime fans, sci-fi fans (although sci-fi and space fans do have many ties), and fans of reading, writing, and things of the like. Frankly, I find myself getting along alot with people who share this interest in space, and although I also could be categorized in other groups, I feel as though I'm the only person in these other groups that's actually interested in space. I soon began to wonder how a social network for people of this demographic would work, and so now I wanted to ask everyone in the community their thoughts on this idea. Would you support a social network built around people who have an interest in space and spaceflight? Would you frequent it? And if so, do you have any recommendations or comments regarding the community? If the response is positive, I plan on actually creating a small social network for this purpose, and have things go from there. I'm excited to hear your thoughts, Dan
7. That's pretty awesome! Looks a little bit wide if you ask me, but if it flies like a Saturn V that's what matters.
8. Yours are both better than mine! Haha, oh well, I threw mine together pretty quickly anyways. It's too bad we have no information regarding where the Kerbin system is relative to our sun (assuming it's in the same galaxy, but it could be in a different galaxy entirely), because I could fix that as well. Maybe I'll do a new version with drawn kerbins once my hand decides to not be dumb again XD
9. Haha thanks! I kind of let this thread drift off because it wasn't getting any bites, but I might have to resurrect it now thanks to you! And resurrected it will be, I have lots of designs (realistic and outrageous) to post. Urg, I think I'll just post screenies of my designs from now on instead of editing them, It'll make the whole process a bit faster.
10. I wasn't aware we were going to actually go full-range with this, but if you guys want to collaborate on a spacecraft design group (with a focus on recreating real rockets), I'm down for that!
11. That's Awesome! Glad you like it! I have it on my second monitor currently haha. I'm working on making it as an attachable strut to you rocket/plane, however I have never done anything like this before, and frankly I keep screwing up because I have no clue how to work blender yet XD the tutorial doesn't say how to add textures! D: But I'll let you know as soon as I get it working. It's going to be to scale, the original plaque was 23x15 cm, and rockets in KSP are generally 2.5 times smaller than their real-world counterparts, so it will be the proper size, Ill try and make a 2x larger version as well in case someone wants it bigger.
12. Yeah, I probably could make an attachable Kerboneer Plaque for KSP... I'll give it a shot! Thanks alot! ;D
13. I guess nobody is as space-geeky as myself... darn.
14. Yeah, well, it was a planned design is what I guess I'm trying to get at, still would be pretty cool to fly an ares rocket.
15. So, anyone who is a hardcore space nerd like myself knows about the famous Pioneer Plaques. The plaques were designed by Carl Sagan, and illustrated by then-wife Linda Salzman Sagan in 1972. The plaques contain many key pieces of information, including illustrations of an average man and woman, the solar system, the sun's position within the galaxy, and even the hyperfine transition of Hydrogen. What I have created is an accurate Kerbin-version of this plaque. Even the distances from the sun (represented in binary in units of 1/10 of mercury's, or in this case, moho's orbital radius) have been recalculated. I did, however, decide that instead of sketching Kermen, using photos of them was better looking. I have a 16:9 and 4:3 version available, both with a width of 1080px. To obtain yours, please right click the image and click "Save link as..." (or it may be "Save Image as...") I guess I should just say this: I don't mind how you use this wallpaper as long as you give credit for it's use. That means you can adapt it, change it, or do whatever you feel to it, as long as I'm credited with making the original. I would recommend if you use this outside of the KSP community to also credit Squad if possible, because KSP is not mine. That's all I have to say about that...
16. That's awesome! Glad to see someone else is interested in the future space missions Unrelated (sort of), but did you see the Falcon 9 rocket launch earlier?
17. If I had a more efficient mission profile I probably could do a one-way to Duna, however, the actual Block II should be able to reach Mars (Duna) and back, so I have to definitely tweak it some more. It got to the Mun and back with fuel to spare, even for a more precise landing near KSC, so with a bit of tweaking I'll have achieved my goals.
18. Hey guys, I've been wondering if anyone has managed to make an accurate recreation of any of the planned SLS launch vehicles using either default parts or a pack like NovaPunch. It would be pretty cool to see, and useful, since the largest of the SLS designs will be capable of manned spaceflight to other planets. If you don't know much about the SLS, a good general overview can be found here. I have a rather rushed version of the Block II Crew using the NovaPunch pack. The rocket flies marvelously and can get to the moon, however, it would not be capable of interplanetary flight like the Block II should be. Has anyone made more accurate recreations? Or are there parts better tailored to this? Thanks, Dan
19. These are pretty cool, I've heard a lot about the Falcon 1. The idea of Civilians or small corporations putting satellites into space is pretty interesting to me, ad Manned Spaceflight even moreso. One day it'll probably be possible for civilians to send themselves in rockets into space, which I think is pretty cool.
20. This is actually a bit of a thought I've been toying around with recently. What I'm wondering is, what's the smallest and/or lightest rocket capable of achieving orbit? The idea is that a smaller or lighter rocket would be either less costly, or easier to build in a non-commercial environment. I'm not actually planning to build my own orbit capable rocket (for several reasons), but for some reason the idea really piqued my interest. What do you guys think?
21. I don't know of anything like that, but there are mods (such as the Orbital & Planetary Construction mod) which provides the teleport functionality to SOME extent (albeit baby Krakens tend to nibble on your ships and it doesn't really work too well past Kerbin). It is a spaceflight game, but who says it has to be stuck in a certain time frame?
22. I love when solid boosters separate and all drift away in unison behind the ship, it's so cool, it really gives the feeling of microgravity. One thing that they should add soon is so that when your in IVA mode, and your character looks around, that you see them looking around in the pilot view. That would be GREAT.
23. I was walking away from the Launchpad with Jeb when I saw this beautiful coincidence. I did pull it up in photoshop to tweak it a little bit, but nothing major. Anyways, hope you like it!
24. Yeah, generally speaking, you want to align your inclination with Jool when you are launching from kerbin, because then it's just like flying from the mun to minmus.
25. Well, that's a bit more complicated. The ejection angle calculated is the angle at which you have to achieve the escape velocity. So if you aren't right on at first, keep thrusting and you should at some point intersect (according to the patched conics). But to readjust your ejection angle based on a different phase angle, that's very very complicated. But a good rule of thumb is "for every degree off, change your burn angle towards the planet by a tenth of the offset" (I hope that makes sense). If you aren't quite sure what to do during the ejection burn, and your relatively close to an encounter, you can always do mid-course corrections!
