Transonic region a problem.
AviatOrme replied to Screeno's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
What altitude are we talking here? If you climb into thinner air, you should find it far easier to speed up as the drag decreases. If you want to go supersonic at sea level, you need to think a lot more about the TWR of the aircraft and how many draggy bits you have sticking off the side. -
Satellite contracts borked?
AviatOrme replied to Bilfr3d's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Are you certain the satellite is travelling in the right direction? It should be orbiting the same way the brighter dots are moving around the required orbit path. -
IIRC, all docked spacecraft were 'grounded' while the shuttle was docked for this very reason. There was too much fear of damaging the shuttle's systems and tiles. In an emergency, I'm sure a way would have been found. For normal operations, I doubt they'd do it.

Pretty sure this needs an NSFW tag...

The first test of my new generation of probe launchers waits on the pad. It's payload is an atmospheric probe bound for Jool. I wanted to see how small a rocket I could use to go interplanetary. Pleased to stay it made it with fuel to spare!

I was also reaping the benefits of RemoteTech! I began to put together my first career mode satellite constellation. The tech tree really makes it a challenge to build with the limited parts! The constellation will be six satellites strong. So far three are in their correct orbits.

Well... I built some stuff: I broke some stuff: I landed some stuff: I docked some stuff: And I burnt some stuff: Okay, so maybe I didn't do quite all of it today. Sue me.

Poll: Kerbal Space Program's Mun Landers
AviatOrme replied to AncientAstronaut's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Yep! I give you the Muna missions! Launch: Landed: By far the most reliable lander I've developed. I give it at least a 60% success rate. -
As above. Worked like a charm.

Show off your landers MEGATHREAD
AviatOrme replied to Drunkrobot's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
My munar program currently has two reliable landers. Additionally, there are many more unreliable ones, but there's only so many pictures of dust clouds I can take. First, Muna I: And then Muna II: There's a subtle difference between them. See if you can spot it! -
Kudos to you, sir! As for mine:

Well done Squad! I can't wait for the download to finish! Aside, it's also cool to watch the trailers get progressively better and better.

I tend to use the separators for things like this Apollo style craft. It's stronger than a docking port, and still lets you keep both halves as usable entities. In this case it's located between the engine of the CSM and the top of the lunar module.
-
^ You what? Christ, which stack separators have you been using?

Well, the shortest answer is to use the Tsiolkovsky rocket equation. That will give you the dV of a stage or rocket. For more details, Wikipedia is your friend! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsiolkovsky_rocket_equation
