  1. I've never used vernors because they seem too awkward to place correctly on most of my craft. 4-way RCS thrusters are much easier to work with
  2. Right above Portal, Bastion, and Mark of the Ninja.. not too shabby!
  3. Spaaaaaaaace! Explooosssiooonnsss!!!
  4. Fuel lines from the outer parts to the middle parts Fuel lines from the middle parts to the outer engines I don't know why you have a fuel line going between the two halves. That seems unnecessary if they are equivalent
  5. If you look in the bottom left you can see that the SAS is applying maximum force to try to keep the rocket pointing upward, but it just can't. I can't tell what engines you're using, but if they have no gimbal and you don't have much in the way of reaction wheels, then you simply don't have enough control authority to overcome the wings up top wanting to be behind the rocket
  6. I've done all those things (except intentional gravity assists, just never bothered) without autopilot and also without maneuver nodes
  7. Mostly the extremely high thrust/weight ratio Other stats on it aren't great, but they're good enough
  8. Build an old-school rover like this one Landing gear wheels are indestructible. Put them on some flexy parts for a bit of suspension. Rocket engine for acceleration, RCS for braking, turning, and aerial maneuvering, because it WILL go off the ground. It goes fast and it's durable. On bodies with little or no atmosphere, it can cover a large amount of ground because you hardly ever need to use fuel. Driving with IVA view is a blast, and makes it feel even faster.
  9. LV-N's are harder to design in due to their size and the way the fairings split off
  10. Going for the lowest possible parking orbit isn't necessarily the best 1. Lower timewarp available 2. If you're trying to rendezvous, you don't have the option of chasing in a lower orbit
  11. It's hard to tell exactly since I'm unfamiliar with the mods you're using, but it looks like you have your engines mounted below your wings, which puts your thrust out of line from your center of mass. In the lower atmosphere, that's not a problem because your control surfaces can compensate for it. But when you go higher your control surfaces have less effect, so the misalignment of the thrust will cause rotation.
  12. Everyone else says marry her, but I say she's probably crazy. Get out while you can!
  13. The marker is just a capsule that I put out there and renamed And yeah, the trick with the engine is: - shut all your intakes - hold the brakes - turn on the engine - wait for flameout - throttle to max - wait a few seconds - re-open intakes and the engine should kick in immediately at full thrust
  14. The Kerbal X is much more capable now than it was when this challenge was new. Getting to the Mun and back with it isn't even particularly hard now
  15. Made a proper new FAR plane Race 1 FAR Open 3:03 Race 2b FAR Open 4:29
  16. Alright, after many many near-successes, here's a clean one with FAR FAR Formula One 3:43 I had one that was a few seconds faster, except I missed touching the island runway by exactly 1 meter - - - Updated - - - FAR Open 3:29
  17. I finally figured out how to set up my flaps in FAR to help in landing, and I was able to beat my NEAR time by a few seconds. I can do better though!
  18. NEAR Formula One 3:55 I'm figuring out how FAR works so I can make an attempt with that too.
  19. The original version of mine is from May 2013 for a very similar challenge, this one is just a bit tweaked from that
