The earliest versions of Kerbal Space Program
NeMeSiS replied to KasperVld's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Not really, Steam allows multiple versions of a game to be active (Through the beta tab under properties), it is usually used for development builds and stuff, but it can be used for older versions as well. ArmA3 used it to allow the previous stable build to be downloaded through entering a code. (Not sure if that is still the case, but it was at some point). They could also just put them up for download on their own website under your account. I dont have the steam version of KSP and i still download it through my account here, i think they also had the previous version up for download for a while. EDIT: So not for free, but within the constrains of the currently available distribtion methods is perfectly possible. -
People who joined back in 2011: are any of you still here?
NeMeSiS replied to Panichio's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I only play it occasionally now, waiting for 1.1 and being able to run a bunch of mods without trouble, the current game (even with a couple of mods that can run without crashing) has gotten a bit stale over the years. Fun fact: Harvester hung out at the forum where i was introduced to this game (Page 2), I think he did some scriping or modding for ArmA2 back in the day. -
Well, i said measurably and you said visibly, so i guess we are both right. Integrated graphics just suck for gaming, the only thing that helped for me on my laptop was lowering the subdivision of the Kerbin oceans in the ksp settings.cfg. With graphics on mid-low it runs almost acceptable. Ive pretty much given up on gaming on my laptop anyway, thats what i got a desktop for.
-
The only thing that would measurably improve your FPS would be changing the driver settings to performance, makes everything look like a blurry mess though. All the other stuff does nothing, or only helps if you are out of RAM.

This. It is where various bits of plumbing are kept and its part of the engine. Just as important: It balances the game. I think it adds to the game that not every engine fits everywhere, some stuff is just too big for some use cases, and working around such limitations is part of the fun.

Heh, i only read the last post, didn't notice that the others where from ages ago. Also, ive no idea what point 1 is supposed to mean.
-
Not even close. KSP wouldn't run properly on a phone, and a Raspberry Pi (2) doesn't even come close to that.
-
I did it a while back just to prove to myself that i could easily unlock everything in a few flights. This was a few versions back and i havent bothered with it since, i prefer building cool stuff without arbitrary restrictions. EDIT: Also, i really do not enjoy having to actually manage a space program. I love doing individual missions and building stuff, but keeping track of several different missions at the same with time with kerbal alarm clock just gives me nightmares.

Someone please explain this RAM limitation to me.
NeMeSiS replied to Dafni's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Ah yes, i remember Operation Flashpoint getting the '-nomap' parameter in an update somewhere in 2002 or 2003, for pretty much the exact same reasons as KSP need(ed) it. Too may mods pushing the game over its limit. It seems squad had different priorities the last few years, though it doesn't matter at this point with a stable 64bit version coming out in the next few months. -
Mechjeb. I have circularized enough orbits manually to last me a lifetime.
-
Is it possible to build it That big?...
NeMeSiS replied to GarrisonChisholm's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Depends, rendering them isn't that expensive, if you don't simulate their physics you could easily do it on higher end GPU's. -
This. You can set up the burn yourself and let Mechjeb execute it. wasd'ing a 5 minute burn isn't skill related, just tedious.
-
Obligatory Scott Manley: (Also, his old version from 2 years ago: )
-
SRB's are cheap though, and you dont discard some expensive engines as well as fuel tanks compared to LFO's. They are an easy and relatively cheap way to get off the ground, and also an easy way to give other designs a slight boost for heavier-than-expected payloads. They barely have a use beyond that.

Veteran players reminisce: What was your first Munar landing like?
NeMeSiS replied to Tex's topic in KSP1 Discussion
This. During my first Munlanding i landed directly on the Moon without orbiting it first, too dangerous with the lack of information back then. Looking up the proper orbital speed at certain heights in a chart was definitely interesting, and somewhat blindly flying at the Mun (The old 'When the Mun rises over the horizon, speed up until speed x' technique) did add to the 'seat of your pants' feeling and at times i kinda miss it. Unfortunately i have no pictures of that era anymore. -
You dont make a spreadsheet, you write some code that calculates deltav for you ingame while building your rocket.

How do you make giant B9 Aerospace planes fly?
NeMeSiS replied to Unknow0059's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
In my experience: Very slowly, wasting lots of fuel and requiring vertical thrust to not crash. -
Well if you dont drop the boosters it is still an SSTO.
-
Using some KAS ropes may help with that. But then you do end up with a large asteroid swaying behind your rocket on a rope, so that may not be the best solution. Its Kerbal though.

It's beautiful.

Is this going to fly?
NeMeSiS replied to TheScareCake!'s topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I once got a shuttle lauch like that balanced perfectly, but now i just do it like this: Launches fine with FAR, once in space the wings fold out and are strutted with some attachable KAS struts during EVA EDIT: Flies like a ..... though, without air breathing engines you have pretty much 1 shot at landing (2 if you are lucky, did a low delta-V mission and didnt dump any fuel before landing). Also, the runway is a bit on the short side. -
Something happening to my wheels
NeMeSiS replied to Vigelius's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Try moving that I-bar a bit more inwards (away from the wheels). -
I liked the whole K meme we had going on when KSP just came out, it fitted the more comical style KSP used to have (Mostly because serious stuff was impossible/very impractical at that point). Though it died rather quickly after whatshisname EDIT: Nova got angry every time he saw the letter K.
