Unused mods folder
corvus2606 replied to SunJumper's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
just a note, KSP doesn't parse zip or rar files, i just zip my mods and leave them in place when i want to disable them -
I still don't know what mod is this.
corvus2606 replied to Commissioner Tadpole's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
That would be Mir from Bobcat's Soviet pack -
simply put, the closer a reaction wheel is to your center of mass, the more affect it will have on the ship. i have had one ship with one reaction wheel right at the CoM and it couldn't fly straight. moving it forward or back meant that it took more effort from the wheel to change the direction of the ship. i've not yet figured out any magic ratio myself yet, but it all comes down to a balance between patience and power generation. the more power you can generate, the less patient you have to be. if you're spinning out in lower atmosphere, try adding some winglets and an ASAS to the design, it will improve the stability. make sure the winglets are below the center of mass though.

no. the only thing that will affect your framerate is objects that are within the physics load radius of 2.5km. everything else is on rails meaning that the game doesnt calculate any forces acting upon it, and only needs to calculate where it is in an orbit based on its orbital characteristics and time. if you have alot of debris floating past as you fly around, it all has to load and unload from the physics engine which will cause lag.

How do I slow down the game clock?
corvus2606 replied to Lolbster's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
It was called lagsbane. It's now part of the core game, when the clock turns red or yellow, time is being slowed down -
for 3 weeks i did barely anything at work other than plan the next stage for my space program. Managed to get it out of my system before the boss noticed though.

too small screen size
corvus2606 replied to Goliath131's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Might i suggest that telling someone who has admitted that they are not computer savvy to edit their system registry in any way is an extremely irresponsible thing to do. there are plenty of better ways to fix this, alt-enter being my preferred method, nobody other than advanced users should ever touch regedit. -
Just because nobody reads it does not make it less true, its right there on the purchase page, and steam makes it pretty clear by selling it as early access. The point is the difference in approach, person A is offering constructive criticism along with all the information nesecary for the devs to look at resolving the problem, Person B is just complaining that its broken. as an IT guy, the four words I hate the most are "My computer is broken" it gives me no useful information, or any point on where i need to look in order to fix it, my first response to a call like that will always be "define broken?"

How to "Target" Geostationary Orbits
corvus2606 replied to Bashkire's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
get into a low parking orbit and stay there until you are on the exact opposite side of the planet from where you want your final orbit to be, then do your burn to raise your apoapsis to geo height, then once you get to the apo, circularise and you should be pretty well above where you want to be. -
I've just tried this and all i get for symmetry and snap angle are blank circles. not a show stopper, but it can get a little frustrating when trying to place parts at a specific angle and have no idea what angle you're on

There are 2 answers to this problem. neither of them are what you want to hear though option 1: edit the craft file in notepad, and change the command pod from there (this is difficult and problematic if you arent sure what you are doing.) option 2: start a new craft with the correct command pod, and rebuild from scratch. I see you have sub assembly loader though, this is by far the best option; option 2a: using sub assembly loader, save the parts of the craft you want to keep, then start a new craft with the correct pod, and load the parts in.

Killing relative velocity
corvus2606 replied to gilflo's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
If you reduce relative speed to 0, then you are as close as you are going to get. The standard process I follow is to zero my relative velocity, then burn towards the target, reduce my distance by half, then repeat -
nub question about abort sequences
corvus2606 replied to Conarr's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Mechjeb 2 seems to be responsible for this happening on mine. As soon as there is no active engine, it will stage until it finds one, or runs out if stages -
im not getting it
corvus2606 replied to readytospace's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Do you have batteries and solar panels? You will lose control of your craft if you run out of power. -
This could not be less true. Although it helps with lining up, the targeting system is completely separate from the docking system, There is no "turning on" docking ports, nor is there any requirement ever to target them, in fact, i frequently dock without even having the other ship targeted. If you are within the 'Magnetic' force radius, the ports will attract, it is not as complicated as people try to make it.

So you ask for help, then wont give the tools needed to give that help, saying you dont actually want help??? If you didnt want a How To answer, you're in the wrong part of the forum, the title is a fair giveaway. that said, from the description you have given, it sounds like you're just trying to go too big. maybe split the ship and assemble in orbit, you can always use docking struts or quantum struts to hold it together once up there

Possibility of equatorial orbit without MechJeb?
corvus2606 replied to jploh's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
some mods also have trouble with switching vesels causing them to explode. something about physics loading. best bet if you're using mod parts is to always switch via the space center. -
Can i get to the moon & land in the demo?
corvus2606 replied to EventHorizon's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Not quite true, if you aren't in mun's soi then it has no effect on your orbit. Ksp doesn't do n body physics. Also as far as the rescue mission goes, I didn't think the demo allowed more than 1 active mission
