The Historical Replica Challenge!
Xeldrak replied to Akagi's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Alright, so I went with a Voyager remake. I tried to make my probe look as much as the original and also, I tried to launch it with my version of a Titan IIIE Rocket. Because I cant fold up my probe, the fairing obviously doesn't look original. I have to say - it's a strange rocket. It has giant SRBs and a tiny second stage. Also, I didn't achieve Kerbolar Escape, just a 1080 year eliptical orbit. -
Hahaha, oh my god, what foul necromancy is this, that has resurrected this challenge? I have to say, I never understood why this challenge never really took of.
-
Thanks! I'm moving right now - no time for KSP or any other games
-
Well, you had me doubting my competence there for a minute, as I've allready tried out clicking the size filter. But clicking size does not sort by diameter. If I sort by size, it sorts the Kerbodyne S3-3600 Tank (size extra large) above the Rockomax Jumbo 64 (size large), wich is above the Kerbodyne S4-128 Tank (size extra large). Come to think of it, I'm not sure by what exactly the "size" filter sorts - I not volume or weight either...
-
I'm also back looking into ksp after along time. My biggest question so far is: Can you somehow sort the tanks by diameter? Back then I used to know every single tank by heart. Now it's: This one? No, to big. This one? No, way to big. This one? No, to small. This one? What kind of size is that?

Mun Direct - Doing it Zubrin Style
Xeldrak replied to Death Engineering's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Oh my, there are a lot of new parts. I used to be able to build and refine spacecraft in my head so that I just had to put them together once I'm home. Two questions: The MEV has to be able to make the trip LKO -> Munar surface -> LKO without refueling on the munar surface and without aerobreaking? And what mods would you recommend for ground refueling and for incorporating life support? -

*steps out of the pentagram* Uaargh.....you have summoned me? Well, I haven't played KSP in a while, maybe I will give this a shot -
Nah, I think we're fine with the current title. But it will be tolerated if you post the stuff you did yesterday.

Heritage Challenges [1 available for reboot]
Xeldrak replied to Speeding Mullet's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
@Speeding Mullet Thank you very much Don't worry about the delay. -
@qzgy Thank you - english is not my native language. You should give it a go - apollo style missions are allways fun. I find them to be in a nice niche between "someting I can throw together in 10 minutes" and "This will keep me busy for at least a month".

Heritage Challenges [1 available for reboot]
Xeldrak replied to Speeding Mullet's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Hey there! Can I humbly suggest my "Doing it Apollo Style Challenge" as a heritage challenge? The original challenge can be found here, it was a thread of the month, way back in August 2013 and had 47 entries. The second iteration "Doing it Apollo Style - Redux" has only 16 entries so far, but they have kept comming for about 4 months now. -
@Jetski From what I can see your mission looks unique enough I have added you to the leaderboard

@Gordon Fecyk Nicely done! And a great video too - good music and production values I've added you to the leaderboard. Yeah, apolly stylle mission are quite extravagant, but I allways found them really fun and engaging.

@Physics Student Nicely done! I've added you to the leaderboard. Your self-deploying science-things are neat - deploying them by rover takes to much time. But I fear lauching one of them into orbit and counting that as a sub-satellite is against the spirit of recreating apollo

1. Mechjeb is allowed for extra data, but not automated piloting 2. Nope 3. Well, yes - but why be one of the cool kids and use fuel cells? 4. Nope 5. Sure, there is no need to bring the rover back 6. Well, it's okay if it can drive and fly. But a rover that cannot can only hop and not rove is not a rover! 7. No, I don't think so 8. One should be able to understand your mission by the screenshots. Also screenshots of major goals should be posted. But in the end I will trust you anyways. 9. Nope - questions are fine

@Luovahulluus I am still around, actually Thanks for answering the question anyways, I do not regularly check this thread anymore @capt: scarlet Maybe ask in the support forums? That post you quoted is about four years old
-
This is still open, yes. Allthough I sometimes need a few day to update the leaderboard. No Badge....back in the old days only the rich kids had badges!
