Expound, please.... in case someone else didn't entirely get what he did there. Not me, of course, I totally got it. No, that guy... like, over there. --->- 1,789 replies

Today this weekend recently... yeah, recently... I sent out a test probe to Tellumo as a final shakedown to make sure my 6.4x/@Galileo's Planet Pack/Rald save is ready for a "real" career playthru instead of just goofing around with everything.

This... will need to remember this. Also, nice Rald.

Had to go back and revisit this one, since it was mentioned, a good distillation. (Eyebrow wigs. ) But... can you expound on the etymology behind an-Kerm?- 1,789 replies

First Flight (Epilogue and Last Thoughts)
CatastrophicFailure replied to KSK's topic in KSP Fan Works
I was really expecting the first air combat to go down more like this: You just had to go shoot down Val, didn't you? I suppose next mission she'll be bringing along a flare gun & roll of aluminum foil.- 1,789 replies

This was because of the 6.4x scaleup, ran out of range real quick. Just had to make up a very simple config below. I can at least confirm two antennas work out as far as Tellumo. // ============================================================================ // Tweak antenna distances // ============================================================================ @PART[*]:HAS[@MODULE[Antenna]]:NEEDS[FeatureSignal]:FINAL { @MODULE[Antenna] { @dist *= 6.4 } }

Sent a test probe to Tellumo to verify that my game is working as it should be. Kerbalsm antennas needed a tweak, glad I checked it now. Almost ready to start playing for real. Just gotta say, those visuals... Dayum. Just, dayum. Unfortunately, slamming into the 6.4 scale atmosphere at over 15km/s, my lander evaporated like a certain team's chances of winning a certain game...

I'm playing Galileo's planet pack at 6.4 scale, using Sigma Dimensions. Of course, antennas are running out of range too quick. I found this in the Kerbalism configs: // ============================================================================ // Tweak antenna distances // ============================================================================ @PART[*]:HAS[@MODULE[Antenna]]:NEEDS[RealSolarSystem,FeatureSignal]:FINAL { @MODULE[Antenna] { @dist *= 16.0 } } Sounds simple enough, only what do I need to use instead of RealSolarSystem to get it to tweak my antennas?

In other news, for anyone still paying attention ( @eddiew ) I managed to get Scatterer working with Rald in GPP! Kept it very simple, just copied the folder from Gael, renamed everything, then did the same in the planets.cfg. So far, so good. Think I'll quit while I'm ahead and not mess with it any further.

Thanks for the help, all, by Jove I do believe I've got it! Now to put Rald in the eastern sky instead of the west... Because screenshots!

For the clouds I just copied & pasted um... Haphastus, I think, in the EVE config, then changed the name to Rald. Still WIP.

Oh for flarp's sake, people! SES-10 next month (maybe) is going to be the first reflight of a used booster. Those other recovered stages have all been test fired. Even test fired a lot. Randomly launching them? SpaceX has ONE launch pad on the east coast! And it was pretty darn busy, right until it blew up. Now they still only have ONE launchpad. Maybe. Once they get around to at least test firing on it. They don't have the hardware or personnel to go randomly shooting rockets off when the test data from static firing is just as good. There were plans to use a used booster on the in-flight abort test. That was a while ago and has been pushed back so many times now, who knows what the current status is. The F9 has been designed from the get-go to be engine-out tolerant. Even from a catastrophic failure. They had one, primary payload got to space fine. Of all the questions floating around about SpaceX's operations, the durability and reliability of their engines is NOT one of them! ETA: also, this: https://spaceflightnow.com/2017/02/03/spacex-rocket-tagged-for-reuse-test-fired-in-texas/

Thanks @KerikBalm, Rald has clouds now. @OhioBob I shall rise again on the morrow to do battle with my sworn enemy Math once more.

Numbers make brain hurt... so many numbers... But thanks for getting me the important one. ETA: nine bloody hells, the math doesn't stop! So, what I actually need to calculate is the SMA, not the altitude, I see. The stock-scale SMA for Rald in the original config is 3453334.05, but that's not quite right as it's drifting slowly. I know in theory what I need to do to translate orbital altitude into SMA, but... math is not my strong suit and the numbers I'm getting are... odd. Um... help?

Nice. Is there a primer anywhere on what the various "types" mean? (Ionosphere, irregular, etc...)

Here ya go: https://www.dropbox.com/s/wp54jcbq31btwqg/radiationtest.cfg?dl=0 Not my work, a guy a few pages back cooked it up and deserves the credit, but best I can do on short notice. As long as you're there, if I want to add radiation to another planet, can I make a separate config or does it have to be pasted into this one?
-
Well... poop. But thanx for trying. I don't suppose logs would help? You've probably got those... Maybe more your area, how could I setup some clouds for Rald? Maybe pilfer the textures from what's already in GPP? Also, @Galileo, I see that at 6.4 scale, Gael has an odd rotation period... literally. 15:57:55 I think. Is that by design or just a quirk of the scaler? How can I calculate the exact geostationary orbit?

Shiggles. FWIW, when I gave it a try I just copy & pasted the relevant bit for Rald into the GPP scatterer config. It was, most certainly, throwing a long stream of errors. But you've probably found that by now. The graphucal bugs were... odd, to say the least. Like looking at the KSC screen thru binoculars.

Ooooooooohhhh where can I get these clouds? I don't recall seeing them in the zip. Also (and actually relevant to this thread), any idea why Rald's Scatterer conig doesn't play nice with GOP?
