Well I successfully got the plane into space and orbiting. However I ran out of fuel before I could hook up with my station. I run out of liquid fuel before oxidiser it seems, so I added 2 jet fuel fuselages, but still run out (I get within 100m/s of the station). I currently have 3 Engine Nacelles (more air intake and looks purdy lol) but would replacing them with fuel tanks be better?
-
Ok cool thanks, I didn't think about the bi coupler. Would 10 intakes be suitable (minimally) for 5 jet engines you think? Also whats that rod looking thing on top at the back? 0.o

Hmm thanks for the help, but that image is actually an old overwritten design, I should update pics, but regardless the advise will help the new design,. Regarding the intakes, how do I add more ram intakes without creating more engines etc, or is there no way?

Ok, so I reduced it from about 30 (I ahve 5 jet engines) to 20 and I get maybe 1km higher before any issues. When I had 30ish, I was able to get to low orbit (but ran out of Liquid fuel before I hit orbit regrettably) but for some reason (and I can't figure out for the life of my why) I keep spinning out of control. It seems to be between 15-20km, dunno if its my speed, or there lack of for the drag at that altitude, or what. everything is symmetrical. Ive uploaded my craft, If someone wants to take a look at It, see where Im going wrong thatd be appreciated. Its running the laser, fuel distribution and BS9 aerospace mods I believe. heres the craft: http://www./?36pisw8vjj9ti9e

Ok cool. When you say RAM intakes, does that also include Radial? as I don't fancy creating like 15 engine nacelles haha >.<

See, mine drifts down initially when its picking up speed/altitude (till about 2km-3km) then it decides to go up. Its not an issue for me as even with ASAS on, I can hold W and it'll keep it level. However I'm wondering if this is the root cause of my problems up at 23km when it flips. Speaking of which, I'm not sure if this is true or not, but I keep my intakes symmetrical on up/down axis, I think they create a TINY amount of drag, which up at the higher speeds is very noticable, so if you have like 2-3 pairs on the top of your aircraft, I'd suggest moving some to the underside, again not sure if its true, but it seems to have made mine more stable (at very least is centralizes your mass moreso) ofc I did make multiple adjustments that period but oh well.

Ok I got it into space, mildly easily, however I run out of fuel to attain orbit, I tried 2 other variants adding additional fuel but it did not work, as it adds mass ofc, so any suggestions how to attain orbit? I also have to use mono fuel to keep me straight as it still likes flipping out and stuff, so if this czn also be corrected thatd helpa lot too

Troubleshooting my aircraft
Neodyme replied to PolecatEZ's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I have the exact opposite issue, my plane decides it wants to be a bike and do a wheelie when it hits ahout 23km and have my rockets on, causing me to plummet, as its unrecoverable, not eve asas can fix it, dunno why it does it though -
Center of lift should be a tiny bit behind centre of gravity, and if you cant lift off either kore speed/less mass, or increase angle of attack by having your hose pitched u p slightly on the runway using wheels. Also ASAS or Avionic package is practically required unless your a ninja

Ship spinning wildly for no reason
Neodyme replied to IriathZhul's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I had a similar issue with my spaceplane, it started veering left slightky, and couldnt figure out why, I literally tore the ship apart symmetrical piece by symmetrical piece. Turns out I had ONE rcs thruster positioned one unit to the left, even if not active at speeds of like 100m.s it pulled it. Also get this on my module rocket, I think kine is due more to the fact I put tail fins on the central booster, and there are 6 other boosters attached, wheni drop them, they may rip off a fin, and as they are in a quad formation, it goes to tri but not in the correct orientation, and it just starts spinning, thankfully im able to control it for me though, when I get into orbital range anyway. Good kuck fixing it, I ended up started my spaceplane again with something like this :/ -
How many intakes should I have? and the reason I have those two cones is symmetry and also I have 1 Aviation Package on one of them <.< dunno where else to put it. I guess I could hide it somewhere where it wont matter? (I like the current cockpit, hate the tube one lol)

Cool thanks. I watched a tutorial somewhere about the climb. Like start at 45 degrees until about 10-15km, then level out a bit and pick up speed in the atmosphere. Is that a godo starting point, or should I try to climb faster, shallower? etc

Ok I fixed (sorta) the whole spinning out of control, but now I run out of fuel before establishing an orbit, much less reaching my station. Should I add another compartment of fuel perhaps? (the fuel I run out of is Oxidizer, if only there was a vanilla oxidizer canister lol) http://i974.photobucket.com/albums/ae221/Comet92/Spaceplane_zpse68849c5.png

Cool thanks ill try out the suggestions, if it works ill post pics in spess, if it dont ill post the cog col pics. Just wasted 2 more hours of my life today when I tried to dock my two super solar blocks onto my station, alighning them perfectly to a point that it just slotted in. Ofc no magnetism cuz I then realised I forgot to add docking ports to the hub Q.Q

Ok so I been trying for days to make a decent looking functional space plane, to no avail. Ive got it to where I hit 17km, but at that stage, it ALWAYS loses control, as in I cant pitch down or even hold my current pitch even with rcs on, as such I always end up flipping out and losing control. Now I dont have ASAS but I do have the avionics package, as I find it easier easier during the ascent wheni dont have to keep toggling sas. But wheni flip out, the AP cant even maintain itself, and I end up spinning wildly also. If need be ill find a place to upload the file to look at, but from this info, any suggestions I could try to stabilize above 17km?

Well ive not had any issues lately aside this with the ports, the mo4e pressing concern is is that randomly my pitch, yaw or or roll freeze or stick at a certain degree. When im trying to dock it makes it next to impossible because because rcs thinks im trying to do something when im not. Its done it usually when I disengaged the sas. Only fix seems to be return to space centre and reload the flight, which sets it to a different oosition to where I left it thus taking much longer to dock deoending how often this occurs.

So I'm trying to dock my solar panels, buut its not doing it. They are perfectly aligned, they touched and everything, basically done everything I have done before, but its not docking. I am using these APAS69 fins and they worked before. But are not sticking. Also I had an issue where my pitch or yaw or roll would stick at a certai position, I would realize till I turn on rcs and yeah it all goes belly up. Did have something docked at this port beforehand, but eject3d it, changed my mind, but yeah dunno if itd affect anything.
