  1. Just out of curiosity... how many out there will build something like a rover or lander then realize after you have gotten all the way to duna or Eve only to realize that whoops you forgot an important piece of the rover or the decouplers were working wrong and your craft wouldn't detach.

I do this all the time. So ill write don my altitude or a close approximation of it, revert to VAB fix the design flaw then hyperedit back to where i was. rather than spending the next 10 minutes waiting for the window to come up and make the long trip to do it all over again.

Anyone else "cheat" with it like this?

  2. Ultimate satisfaction: reentering kerbin's atmosphere after a long (interplanetary) flight and having that coming home feeling

only to realize you are very low on fuel and you forgot to repack the parachutes after lifting off from duna and you are already beginning to get the flame effects from re-entry

  3. right after .22 dropped i didnt have any mods and no mechjeb. I was a lil paniky at first, then i launched, did my gravity turn and set a circular orbit like it was just another launch. Then i went to the mun and back without any issue.

I did eventually get mechjeb going for interplanetary trips.. because i HATE figuring out IP trips.....

I figured out i wasnt using mechjeb as much as a crutch as i thought i was.

  4. I just threw a ship together in a few hours .... added some kethane tanks and a refiner.... launched it to the mun with almost no testing..... It landed, gathered its samples, and returned to kerbin without any explosions, no unforeseen spin outs, forgetting of solar panels, etc.....

It went smoothly... too smoothly..... Ive never had a mission go that nicely.... i was almost.... disappointed.......

  5. What if for the campaign there was a large asteroid orbiting in a highly eccentric orbit around the system, passing far beyond any of the Kerbol system planets at its furthest, and close to Kerbin orbit whenever it loops around. It passes very close to Kerbin every few orbits. It is scheduled to crash into kerbin in say 100 years or so. It has the same physics as say a player made object. It is your job to land on the asteroid and divert it from Kerbin.

  6. Well he said he needed 'More Oomph' to get it off the runway, not just to climb...he's got enough thrust there that it's flying more off the thrust than the wings, certainly. Just didn't have enough lift or the landing gear placement evidently, to be able to get it pointed up enough to fly on the thrust.

I guess the higher landing gear and different placement solved that... heh. Interesting design. Are those the hybrid engines from the B9 pack?

I originally designed this plane with the intent of being able to take off from the ground with a rover or satellite drop it off and return without the need for staging or complex launch vehicles. In addition it is practice for future campaign mode. This is the reason for the excess thrust. The ability to take off and deliver small payloads without sacrificing a number of boosters and fuel tanks for every launch would be invaluable.

  7. it flies perfectly now that i was able to get more height from the wheels as opposed to the stock small gear bays i was using. I can risk pullin gup sooner now. Before i had to wait until the very end of the runway. If i was going too slow i wouldnt be able to pull up in time. Thats why i needed the SRBs. now with the taller wheels i can afford to pull up earlier and it looks like a much more professional launch as opposed to the 25% success rating cross your fingers launch i was doing.

and yes they are the B9 hybrids

  8. I built a space plane capable of getting to 80 km and circularized however in order for it to get off of the runway it requires a couple of SRBs. If the runway was about 50 ft longer or had a little ramp at the end i could get off no problem....

However because i run our of runway i need a little more oomph to get off the ground.
