  1. Why not set up the Engine mount to convert Oxidizer into LOX that only the OMEs can use, but not the SSMEs? That way, the SSMEs can't burn up your oxidizer. Or, set up the SSMEs to shut off when the fuel runs out? Ex: ET runs out of fuel, SSMEs immediately disable, prevents oxidizer in shuttle form getting used up.
  2. Problem is, the ones who think they have won are the only ones who are still running, still dreaming. So, technically, your statement is contradictory and invalidates the very point it's trying to make.
  3. The reason that the shuttle lacked safety equipment was because it added more complexity to an already complex machine. Also it was a case of 'if something bad happens there really is no safe and quick way to save them' as well as the fact that they designed it to succeed (Which it did 134.5 times(Challenger exploded=-1. Columbia was incinerated but had completed its mission=-0.5. By completed mission, I mean it did everything it was supposed to do in space, and all it had left to do was return.)). Another thing is that some safety measures might have added risk. Ex: ejection seat covers on fuselage rip away during reentry, cabin is subjected to explosive decompression, heatshield/tiles are breached and shuttle is incinerated. So much for a saftey feature.
  4. Then explain why the Saturn V and the N-1 look so different. Also, copying isn't an excuse for laziness, nor does it prove your country is technologically superior. It just proves that you are unoriginal and lazy. Also, there IS a difference between implementation and imitation. ex: using the space shuttles cargo bay in your design rather than just removing the tail fin and changing the flag on it to make it look like your own idea.
  5. So? It still didn't perform a mission. And, just like the Chinese, it was a ripoff of the American shuttle, meant strictly for military purposes.
  6. Who are ripping off the U.S. because they can't seem to come up with anything on their own (I saw a picture of the manned Chinese shuttle. It looked like the American shuttle minus the vertical stabilizer/tail fin).
  7. Yeah, but in the end, which mission is more difficult to complete? Sending an expendable machine on a one way trip to destruction? Or having to get three men, who need food, water, life support, and living space to the nearest natural satellite and back alive? Also if the Soviet probe landings where SO great, then why is the forum full of KSP players trying to do an Apollo-style mission to the mun, or trying to build a space shuttle, or landing a rover Curiosity style? And to boot, why is it considered a major accomplishment to perform a MANNED landing and RETURN from Eve, KSPs' analog to Venus, than it is to land a probe there? If your space program is more remembered than anyone else, I'd say you one the space race.
  8. Could you please get rid of the custom LOX? It really is kind of annoying that I can't use the tank for a refuel station. Before you say that the shuttle couldn't take its tank to orbit, the fact is it actually can, both in real life and in the mod. You may be wondering "yeah, so what?". Well one could utilize that capability to ship up all the components for a refuel station/OPF at once, just by slapping a docking port on the side of the ET. That is, if it used Oxidizer rather than the custom LOX. Which is used only by the SSMEs and the Bearcats. Which are only used for launch. Also, the OMEs use oxidizer, not LOX. Which also proves my point that LOX is a pointless aesthetic that gets in the way of this mods inter-compatibility with the stock parts as well as EVERY OTHER MOD.
  9. 1: U.S. Didn't land on Venus (correct me if I'm wrong), they mapped it 2: Ever heard of Viking 1&2, Spirit, Opportunity, and Curiosity? 3: Most of the Soviet Mars Probes crashed 4: Soviet Union doesn't exist anymore 5: Soviet Buran was a ripoff of the U.S. shuttle, and it never flew an actual mission 6: After the U.S. landed on the Moon, Soviets more or less gave up on manned flight beyond LKO I know the U.S. kind of did, but that was after they went to the Moon SIX times.
  10. Oh wait, do you mean the probe that lasted three hours before its circuits were melted into puddles of slag?
  11. read the most recent devblog by Harv. He said EVERY developer played a part in working on the 0.22 update.
  12. If I'm mentioning the Saturn V and the N-1, my point is pretty clear. Also, the major goal of the space race was to get a man on the moon, not a robot. Think about it: What is more impressive, crash landing probes on the moon or actually sending several men there and back? The U.S. won because it proved it was able to send living, breathing, sentient humans to the Moon and back safely, not a cold, lifeless, expendable machine. In fact, it actually did send probes there, and the first one survived.
  13. 1. No, its not silly to like something more just because your physically close to someone who partook in it. 2.My Great Grandmother moved to New York afterwards (don't know when). I saw her countless times before she died at the age of 94. I remember hugging her when it was time for my family and I to head back home. I have a certificate from NASA that commends her for her work. The main reason I play KSP is because I love space and space travel. I love space/space travel because I heard of what my Great Grandmother did. To assume that my Great Grandmother and I were not physically close just because "the location thing doesn't pan out" is very inconsiderate of the fact that I actually know the facts pertaining to my family history.
  14. Actually, the F-1 engines are being reviewed for use (design wise) in the SLS. Also, I meant the rocket vehicle, not the rocket engine. Fun Fact: the Saturn V was the strongest, biggest, and heaviest rocket ever built. Not even the Falcon Heavy comes close.
  15. My Great Grandmother worked on the wiring for the computers in the command module that was used in the Apollo 11 mission. No I didn't contribute directly, but I'm still proud my family had a part in a major event in history. Also, you're basically saying that everyone who didn't work at/for NASA at the time shouldn't be proud that the US put a man on the moon. It's like saying my uncle shouldn't be proud of me for getting a college degree just because he didn't help me get one.
  16. USA. Why? Sure, they lagged behind, but in the end, they came out on top. Want to counter that? Well: U.S.S.R. didn't even get their moon rocket to leave the atmosphere, while the USA never had a problem with any of the Saturn Vs (Apollo 1 wasn't using a Saturn V, and the Apollo 13 incident was a result of the CSM, not the Saturn V). Also, on a side note, the US rocket was bigger. So much for Russia doing everything big. Finally, the last time I checked, the US is still in existence. So, the US has a double win: they (actually) got to the moon 1st and are still in existence.
  17. (regarding first car) WHAT DID I TELL YOU??!! 88 MPH!!!! Please someone modify this. There were several versions before the thread was annihilated in the DDoS attack in April, 2013.
  18. About mods: while a few may seem to be going well (not all of them), their days are numbered. For example: Kethane probably has only two or three updates (not exact here) left before stock resource extracting/refining/storing/applying are added and Kethane is killed. Don't believe me? look at the old docking mods from pre-0.18 Try and find them on the space port. Once docking was implemented in 0.18, they all vanished. The only reason ORDA is still around is because it had a rondevouz/guidance system as well as docking parts (which are no longer in existance).
  19. Why is everyone saying Kethane? Did you all forget about STOCK RESOURCES that fast? Not trying to insult anyone, just saying...
  20. I just downloaded this game on android, and I LOVE it! Perfect for when I have a ksp craving but no desktop access. Also, on a side note, it's FREE on Android . Just one of many reasons that I believe Android is better than Apple (No offense to Apple people, though).
  21. You can also mark where and when your first mission to that planet/moon was and not accidentally erase it because your previous marker was a piece of debris.
  22. I'm suspecting that the shoe store/meat deli thing from Home1 will become a waffle house in Home2.
