The problem seems obvious, but what happened is I forgot to give the detachable lander any power, so it was dead where it stood. I tried many times to do some centrifugal breakdancing to get the rover free and it just nope'd right out. I then put the landing gear down because why not. http://i.imgur.com/6rtEsyY.jpg

Rover Kethane refueling medium coming in for a landing. The entire creature, delivered in 5 chunks, I should have put a lot more Kethane drills on this thing, takes quite a while.
