  1. Much like testing the large SRB on a suborbital tragectery. you know, so we can back for snack time a little faster
  2. Not all of them stage. I had one to test the plane Landing gear. After furiously clicking the deploy great button and not getting results., I right clicked the part and it had a new option of "test part" most have been done secret military thing because they weren't testing the landing functionality for sure
  3. Wait until target is at about the right angle. Then wait for either dusk or dawn depending and just point up, light the fuse and hold on
  4. Mechjeb or some mod might include the information you need.
  5. One tactic is to attach some parachute lower down on your craft and on different parts. That way those partst are supported individually and all the stress of the opening chutes is spread out. Just make sure you test your final stage top make sure you done have to many parachutes to far down the craft flips over
  6. Just add wheels and a solar panel to your decent stage and it feels much more useful. If you don't see the need or effort required in designing it
  7. On my first attempt at a Mun landing I missed the intercept but found myself lined up almost perfect with a minmus encounter. .... so my first space landing happened on Minmus...With a perfect landing and return. Guess the guys in the pilot seat really wanted a snow cone.
  8. After a 17 year trip, Jeffery Kerbin landed his can back on solid ground after a missed encounter with Eloo.... And picked up 53 science. ......... FOR SCIENCE! he was less than happy
  9. Another thing to consider would be Duna's magnetic field. If it isn't very strong or non-existent then the plant gets hit by ton of stellar radiation already and the little bit coming or the rocket probably doesn't matter
  10. Current save: Mun space station LKO: full service station with fuel array, And a space train with another station with fuel waiting for an eve transfer window. And a mission on intercept with a class E asteroid hoping out has enough umps to at least capture it in Kerbal system top try and smooth orbit later
  11. You certainly can do then in ksp the thing is however most haven't add there is no need with time acceleration. In real life you have to deal with transfer Windows and when one is a long time off you stay looking at alternatives to the most optimal, and make trade offs on time and cost (more dv=more fuel means more money) While in ksp we can just time accelerateand go
  12. My most common failure involving parachutes is messing up where they are in the staging list and deploying them on launch. "Man this rocket just won't get up to speed"
  13. Send us a post card when you get there
  14. Was waiting to see how long it took for someone to mention this. For all the original posters proof and math, the argument is invalid because they are as intended. .... better. .... Just better. Because squad wants them to be so that career mode is cooler than just getting bigger parts, but better (note I said BETTER) parts. Listen to some of the dev posts and interviews they explain everything
  15. I usually pot a probe core and at least one of the single panel solar on most my craft. Incase I have my Kerbal somewhere and those tons I forget to deploy solar arrays and time warp. As for when I build probe craft. On missions that are non return and not post of a base. Refuel mission. And Obviously any com sats
  16. "Probe Core" to be used in the way you might call some one gutless. Came from the Kerbals that are too afraid to test the rocket out your self you had to use a probe core.
  17. You are all going about this wrong. See the Kerbals aren't torturing the goo for there own advancesment. The goo is actually an extraterrestrial and the Kerbals are spending unfathomable amounts of money and lives trying to figure out where they belong so they can return all goo to where it came from. This they are sending rockets with small goo bits and seeing if it accepts the location add outs natural habitat. The Kerbals are incredibly humane (kerbane?) In this regard
  18. I have a couple of times my most interesting for me any way was a friend that wanted to try the game out asked if there was a way to land on the mun and return in the demo game. So I built a craft out of demo parts to prove it. Winglets acted as landing gear, ran out of electric power when taking the landed photo as I had left the ASAS on when i got out and sped time to get the sun to come up. Made the trip back a little interesting as the engines never made any power.
  19. I've done a similar thing trying to launch 2 solar panel booms up to my station in a single launch but it was to put one on either end of the booms to stabilize them. That required docking ports particularly since i wasn't keeping the Bi-coupler. Takes a Lot of fiddling to trick KSP into accepting a double ended connection.
  20. This is the start of our protest against Scott Manely. KERBAL's ARE REAL! Stop Killing Kerbal's! Killing Kerbal's IS MURDER! .....or not I think my KD ratio is far worse than his. best to just let this one go i think.
  21. So I landed my Rover a little hard but no biggy just broke the wheels didnt actually make them explode. So Kerbal gets out repairs them all and when the last one is done and Kerbal is giving himself a well deserved contemplative breath the Rover starts running away.......Faster than said Kerbal can run then it go over a cliff and explodes entirely.
  22. your not really being discourged from transmitting data. since it's a lot easier to make a one way mission than a return, particularly if it's a surface observation. For early carreer mode build a probe send it out to another planet with a container get your initial dump to unlock stuff
