I really don't get the herp-derp surrounding this mod. To install it is user choice, just like ignoring the CC popup is choice. Khatarr isn't forcing its use on anybody however, modders threatening to deliberately kill a users game if it is out of date is forcing them to do something they may not want or need to do and frankly, it is wrong. Some of the mods running in my 0.25 game were pulled directly from my 0.24.2 folder and they worked. The updates to them were simply compatibility updates to stop CC complaining, nothing was fixed because they still worked fine before the update. If modders are going to take such a harsh line against the blocker, they may as well directly insult each person who already chooses to ignore the popup as it is. It's not really that difficult to add an extra line to the release threads saying "Outdated mods will NOT be supported". If users really want support, they have to update. Imagine if Microsoft threatened to deliberately kill your PC because you didn't want to update to Windows 8. Threatening to deliberately bork someones KSP install because they haven't got the shiniest version of your mod is exactly as bad.

This escalated super quickly. Personally I see no need for this, I ignore the CC warning when it shows because I know the only mod it's warning me about is TAC Fuel Balancer and the 0.24 version is compatible with 0.25. Could I update the mod? Sure, but I don't need to. Now, when I get the warning after a KSP update, I do take notice and update everything it says it broken. Do we as a whole need this mod? Not really, those who will install it will ignore the CC warnings anyway. They just need to be aware that they won't receive support for any (still active) mods that don't work due to being outdated. No need to implement a kill switch or to have a thread war. This is one of the best game communities around and as such, we should be able to come to a compromise rather than have a thread devolve into an open conflict between differing opinions. Just a thought.

Seriously? over 30 KSC biomes?
djnattyd replied to SkyRex94's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I didn't even know the tanks had biomes. -
*round of applause* that is impressive. I have zero imagination when it comes to outside of the box thinking.

Kerbin as a whole needs more life. While mods like EVE go a long way to create the illusion that civilisation exists outside the KSC, it's still just smoke & mirrors. Lack's KSC++ helps liven up the launch facility but the rest of the planet is a dead world.

Whilst I totally get the priority, this is one of those little mods that made 0.24 a little less annoying, especially when coupled with Kerbal Economy Enhancements. Having unnecessary/unwanted -victims- volunteers is the most annoying aspect of career mode but not being able to explodify them due to the payouts is awful.

And to think, I struggle to get to Duna with a purpose built craft. O_o

You Will Not Go To Space Today - Post your fails here!
djnattyd replied to Mastodon's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I haven't been to space for days. Not because I haven't wanted to, the desire was there. The ability to choose which of the (many) mods I should remove in order to stop KSP crashing every couple of minutes was not there though. (They're all so good, DAMN YOU MOD MAKERS!) Also, the fact that Kerbins atmosphere seems to be currently made up of kerbins terrain (don't ask, something has broken E.V.E) was making the guys in Mission Control a little anxious. -
That moment when your old manager says he flat-out believes the moon landings were faked and you sit there thinking "well, I guess you don't have to be smart to be a leader of people" whilst resisting the urge to go all Buzz Aldrin on him. I know, I know, its not strictly KSP related but still... This is why aliens will never visit us.

The worst part with her portrayal was that whilst I accept that it was the characters first time in space and that NASA can't train for all scenarios, the entire movie was played as though she was told "hey so... You're going to space" and then NASA stuck her on a shuttle and that was the start and finish of her training. It was basically a whole movie of "OMG WHAT DO I DO WHAT DO I DO?!?!" when in reality, she would've had "What to do if you go off structure" training as well as "How not to panic and use all your O2" training. What bothered me the most was the moment when she cannoned out of the Soyuz and into the Chinese station. I was sat there thinking "It doesn't work like that!". In reality she would have jettisoned out of the capsule and watched as the station blasted past her at a few 100m/s.
-
Given how Congress has butchered or outright canned a ton of NASA missions it'd be worse than that. NASA would announce loads of great stuff and then mothball the entire game.

I don't think Microsoft of today is the same as Microsoft of the Bill Gates era. Everything is either micro transactions or "Day 0 DLC" with them and if it's not, it's just left to rot. Look at FSX, it was in need of an SP3 and Microsoft closed Aces while they were in the middle of making it. Then somebody had the bright idea of releasing Microsoft Flight, a game that, aside from the initial area of Hawaii, was literally a pay to play game. It killed the franchise dead and Microsoft blamed the community for not supporting it. I can't see them doing anything different with Minecraft. Sure the community is a lot larger and full of a lot more Shouty McShoutertons, but they are no more passionate than the flight sim crowd were about FSX. If the day of Squad being acquired came then in all honesty, there are only two companies I'd like to see them consider. One is Valve, the other is Google and realistically, Google aren't going to buy a games developer unless they get into the gaming world themselves.

Is that all? I would've imagined that the Curiosity mission cost a lot more with it being a nuclear powered dune buggy with a laser for a face. Is that just the launch costs or is that including the additional cost of the rover as well?
-
Probably GSO. It costs around $27,000/kg to launch an Atlas V.

I suppose Microsoft are wanting some of the indie success stories that Sony have gotten with the PS4. Sony, whilst not outright owning them, have a lot of sway with the devs of No Mans Sky due to them being a major backer. Microsoft had nothing in comparison until now. It'll suck hard if Minecraft becomes locked to the 360 and XB1, I'm sure they'll face a massive amount of anticompetitive lawsuits if they go that route. My worry is that with them wanting to capture what Sony have, they're going to go all out and throw money at indie studios which means Mojang could just be the first of many to go mainstream and it'll be us gamers that feel the effects of it.

Peter Molyneux destroyed Lionhead by promising features that he ultimately never delivered.

I keep getting a "LoadOnDemand has detected a problem and might not work. Failed to create NativeBridge, even legacy mode!" message. Having a look through the thread I seem to have the requirements to run it, I even went and got the vcredist_x86 to be sure only for it to tell me that I already have it installed. I am using the very latest ATM version that was compiled for .24 and I've turned off compression in Texture Replacer so... Anyone got an idea what's wrong?

Personally I feel it's a double edged sword. Big studios (especially Microsoft) have a huge supply of money that could pay for all sorts of things from staff to an entire new game and/or engine but at the same, they're notorious for cookie-cutter stuff. You only have to look at Activision and what has happened to Call Of Duty to see that they don't like to leave the box. I'd love KSP to be up there with all the AAA games you see at E3 but I don't know how I'd feel if there was a massive Ubisoft logo plastered all over it.
-
Having just read that Microsoft have officially acquired Minecraft, I'm wondering if Squad would ever offer themselves up for/be open to takeover from say Ubi or EA if it meant that they would receive a cash injection to complete KSP and guaranteed oversight of future development of it? Also, I'm interested to hear what the community thinks about indie devs becoming part of a big corporation and if they would continue to support Squad if such a thing happened. *mods I wasn't sure where this would go as its both about and not about KSP. Please move it if necessary.

[1.12.x] Transfer Window Planner v1.8.0.0 (April 11)
djnattyd replied to TriggerAu's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I can also confirm that I get serious frame rate issues with this installed, the lag goes away if I turn off the entire UI (F2) and its not constrained to the flight scene but also lags the VAB. This is with the 32bit windows version of KSP. -
Doesn't seem like there's any mention of it yet but this video just popped up on my YouTube stream of a new mod made by InnSewerants. There's a d/l link in the description. ISA Eavesdrop for Kerbal Space Program: http://youtu.be/MICj5q_74Jk

What's the funniest thing you've ever built in KSP?
djnattyd replied to Clockwork13's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Completely off topic but that gif in your signature is hilarious. I now want someone to make a mod that gives Kerbals balloon javelins -
Knowledge Base: Gravity Assits and Free-Return-Trajectories
djnattyd replied to Spanier's topic in KSP1 Tutorials
Can KSPTOT be used to plot multiple gravity assists similar to the ones Rosetta performed? If so, it would make travelling to the outer planets (somewhere I've never been) a lot more √ friendly.
