People who joined back in 2011: are any of you still here?
jjwb22101 replied to Panichio's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Started playing KSP in 0.12, didn't join the forum till November or December of 2012 though, so I didn't survive the Great Wipe. I've always been a bit of a lurker, though I'll occasionally post if I think I can contribute. Biggest change for me has been all the polish the game has gotten, I remember having to just guess my way through a trans munar injection burn because there were no patched conics, though I must say I miss exploring and I'm somewhat disappointed in the lack of new easter eggs (though that could just be that I haven't been able to find them...) I'm also in agreement with some of the other people here, I miss interacting with the devs on the forums, and I must say I'm not a huge fan of how much the dev team has changed over in the last little while. I miss Knova Kllisko (If you get that reference, you've been around a while). -
How do I make a Fuel only Fuel tank for LV-N
jjwb22101 replied to Rematog's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
It's actually not that bad. The vast majority of the mass of the fuel tanks is in the fuel. The empty weight isn't too much of a big deal. In the stock game there's no better solution than just draining or using the really low density spaceplane tanks. -
I wasn't saying that I wasn't hyped for bugfixes, I'm honestly more hyped for bugfixes than new features! Or, at least most of them
-
"CHOO CHOO!!" "All aboard the hype train!" Except it's almost certainly entirely bugfixes, which, while nice, aren't really the sort of things people get super hyped about, sadly.

Let's All Show Our Appreciation For Rowsdower!
jjwb22101 replied to Endersmens's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Thanks for everything Rowsdower! You were great, and I thank you for your patience with the fickleness which is the KSP community. My fondest memory is the one devnote after the Curse partnership announcement where your note was simply a link to a picture of several firefighters putting out a fire. Your humor, patience, and openness with the community will be greatly missed. When you first came on as CM, my first thought was that you could never be the same as Damion or Cap'n Skunky (who had been CMs since I first started playing KSP), and you weren't, but everyone is different, and I thank you for everything you have done for the community. From a longtime KSP player, and everyone in the community, we thank you Rowsy. Godspeed, and may your rockets always have the fuel they need! -
EVA Ejects at High Velocity [.25]
jjwb22101 replied to Caelib's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
Ok, so it seems like a lot of people are having this issue, so I won't bother to include my accounts of what has happened, since they don't really add to the discussion. However, I would like to suggest a possible solution (which could probably be implemented in a mod if someone has the coding know-how). Would it be possible to treat ladders similar to docking ports, ie have the kerbal docked to a ship while holding onto a ladder, and simply have the attachment node move as the kerbal moves? Also, I agree with a lot of you that this is an extremely frustrating bug, and would love to see this addressed in a timely manner by the devs. Personally, I've been having this bug on Windows (both 32 and 64 bit) and Mac, going back at least to .23 for the sliding around issue, though the flying off at high speed is something I've just started experiencing with .25. -
Granted, but it gets a bit too close to the fireplace. I wish I didn't need to sleep

Granted, but the imperfection is your doctor failing to notice a tumor that goes on to kill you. I wish my school system wouldn't have stupid rules.

"filth" falling off rockets after lift-off
jjwb22101 replied to MmPMSFmM's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Yeah, the Falcon one is ice. Apparently, before launches of the Saturn V, they would sometimes get small snowstorms near the launchpad due to the cryogenic fuels, which I think is really cool! No clue as to what would be falling off the Chinese rocket, might be some sort of a sheath to make sure the hypergolic fuels don't leak (that stuff is REALLY nasty). -
Though I don't have it on steam, my personal guess would be something around 1000-1500 hours, considering i started playing in .12 and have been playing almost all of my free time since.

I got it right after the donation thing ended, for about $13 or so. Definitely one of the best uses of my allowance ever!
-
Granted, you're dead. I wish my school district did science classes in the proper order (physics, chemistry, then biology) as opposed to the exact wrong order that it is currently in (biology, then chemistry, then physics).
-
Granted, but it's on the Moon. I wish for my computer to stop sounding like a hairdryer.

What irks you the most about movie space travel?
jjwb22101 replied to Tex's topic in Science & Spaceflight
My major qualms about sci fi are that almost no sci-fi movie portrays orbital mechanics properly, and that whenever ships meet, they are almost always in the same plane. I am also annoyed by the relative closeness of celestial bodies, as well as having completely unrealistic fuel sources/realistic fuel sources that are completely over powered. -
1st Kerbal Space Photography Contest
jjwb22101 replied to mangekyou-sama's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I think I have a slight problem here... I managed to get this probe to the bottom of the mohole, but I lost both my solar panels, as well as the only battery I had onboard in the process. This is aside from the more obvious problem of it being upside-down. -
Vall's the only body I haven't visited, mainly because I haven't seen a compelling reason to go there. There aren't really any easter eggs (in response to those of you who say Moho, I quite enjoy trying to land at the bottom of the Mohole), and it's not that much of a challenge compared to something like Tylo or Dres.

Everything looks good to me. The docking ports are the right way around, and it seems to me like they're close enough to be magnetically attached. Everything else (rotational alignment, etc. )doesn't matter, so I don't have any idea why they aren't connecting. My only thought is perhaps something to do with the .23 update made some changes to docking ports. Did you build them in different versions, or try to fly them from a version different from when they were built in? Other than that, I got nothing.
-
I still think my favorite is all the way out at the newest planet, simply because it's such a pain to get there, so the satisfaction of actually doing it is truly something.

How long have you been playing kerbal space program for?
jjwb22101 replied to FlamingPotatoes's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I've been around since .12. I still miss the old command pod. -
Powered by Estes is pretty good, though I somewhat prefer Aerotech. As for the satellite, I was just lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time.

How are rockets (real ones) stable when they lift off?
jjwb22101 replied to Anizer's topic in Science & Spaceflight
As i said earlier, with fins. And to be perfectly honest, rockets large enough that fins aren't enough have been around for less time than computers. -
I had completely forgot about that. I know ours at least has an orbital lifespan of about 2 years (about four times as long as the expected lifespan of the satellite itself).
-
Primary payload deployed, though personally I'm waiting to hear about the cubesats, since that's the part I worked on (even though I had only a tiny part).
-
Yeah, in terms of that, we sorta just have to hope. KESSLER SYNDROME ALL THE WAY!!!
-
Space is big. I mean, REALLY big. Mind-Bogglingly big. And the satellites are only a cube with a 4" side.
