Lets see some screen caps! Sounds cool.
-
Right, Well here it is. took me long enough I think the craft was just a little too complcated for me to spend too much time on any one aspect of it so I just tried to get it done

If you guys are interested, I edited some .cfg files to make the science lab a little more helpful. I upped the weight to 7 tonnes. I upped the electrical requirements MASSIVELY I upped the crew requirements to 4 I put it a little higher in the techtree and I changed the recovery value to something good. I think it will now recover to 100% but I am not certain. I shall play around with it a bit. Here it is for your inspection: http://www./download/kd9baukun3kscmh/AdvancedLargeCrewedLab.zip Just pop it into your Gamedata>Squad>Parts>Science folder.

Right, so I got started on those drawings on the train but I ended up coming down with some horrible flu thing. To cut a rather long story short; I have half of them done. So I have done the skeletons but not the full colour... sorry, hopefully for new years MERRY CHRISTMAS!

You can take a look at some of the stuff I've done Here. Pm me.

I think this is a really good idea! I'm not to sure if I would be best suited to this as I am Scottish and would probably be harder to understand. I wish you all the best though! I can imagine that this will be really good for the kids, I have always thought that KSP could be a great platform for learning

Ok, to start off let me just say this: I was never really one of those people that went mad about the introduction of the RAPIER (mainly because i prefer rockets to planes) but I do think is a valuable asset to have. During my long nights of playing KSP I have come to respect craft that look good more than those that have all the bells and whistles, and as such, I was quite disappointed with the aesthetics of the new RAPIER engine. Honestly, I think that they have slapped the back of a SABRE engine onto the top half of a reaction control wheel (SAS module). Don't get me wrong, I like the back end of the engine and I can appreciate the coding that went into allowing multiple exhausts and all that, but I feel like the developers just worked too long on the rear end of the model and realised they were missing the front and so slapped a SAS module on it. If you search up 'SABRE Engine' in google images you will see they look pretty badass and, to a degree, so does the RAPIER, but I just wish they had made the front of the model a little nicer... I would love to hear your thoughts on this matter! Do you think the RAPIER model is not as awesome as it could be? Do you think it is cool the way it is? How would you change it if you could?

I agree that there is no real incentive to send out unmanned missions. However: I was circularising around the mun when I ran out of fuel. Plummeting to his seemingly inevitable demise, Jebidiah hopped out of his command pod and finished the burn on his EVA Propellant. Stranded in munar orbit, Jeb was waiting for rescue. So, I put together a ship which had a command pod and a probe core. The command pod was empty so Jeb could hop in. And it worked! (the second time... bill stole the seat the first time) So, there you have it, unmanned missions can be very useful.

I mix up the real solar system and KSP's solar system far too often
Highlad replied to CaptRobau's topic in KSP1 Discussion
If you start mixing up KSP names with real names, it's a sign you should play more KSP. Whenever I talk about 'the moon' to people and about spacey things I say 'moon' but think 'mun'. This has gotten so bad that, when I was talking to a freind of ine on facebook, I continually said 'Mun' without question until he stopped me and pointed out my error... I also tend to call kerbin earth in many of my youtube videos (Shameless self advertising: See my signature) However I don't really tend to mix up the other planets... I think my subconscious realises it is a different solar system and so treats it as such. Or perhaps I don't play enough KSP... -
I have never used hyper edit, but I can see the usefulness for it when you need to test landers. Maths is one thing, actually doing it is another...

Does the Community Want Better Aerodynamics?
Highlad replied to spudcosmic's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Point taken. Still, I think there should be an in-game option. -
Does the Community Want Better Aerodynamics?
Highlad replied to spudcosmic's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I don't really think we need realistic aerodynamics. I like the simplicity of designing planes however, as I am mostly a rocket guy, I think that slightly better aerodynamics (so that nosecones and aerodynamic shapes are more fuel efficient) would be good. So we don't need real aerodynamics like FAR, but it would be nice to have them re-vamped and spruced up a bit. Agreed, It would be nice to have a setting to change the 'realness' of the aerodynamics. KSP is fun because of those 'crappy payloads'. Half the fun is in the hilarity of the payload! Yeah but if we like it, should it not stay? -
Recover Experements without recovering vessel?
Highlad replied to Highlad's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Aye, but its fun to get into the mood. Call it roleplay. -
Ok so here is my problem: basically I have an SSTO to take my experiments back to kerbin so that I don't need to de-orbit my munar lander (so i can repurpose it). Unfortunately I have realised that I wont be able to actually recover the data without recovering my SSTO. Recovering the SSTO, of course, defeats the purpose of having it. The only way I can see this working is if I do some weird docking stuff with the body of my SSTO with a capsule then undock the two once landed and recover only the capsule... Still, its hardly perfect. So, I was thinking, would it not be logical to be able to recover science if you are on the runway or launchpad? what are your thoughts?
-
Indeed. Kerbals are not human! In fact, many people believe them to be plants... Who knows, maybe they vomit their kids out through their mouth or something.... o.O Ok, Now I have an image of Jebidiah vomiting up a small baby kerbal...
-
Yeah, Im with you on this one, WE WANT BIG SCIENCE! haha, Yeah, I like to make my ships pretty so it would be nice to have 2.5m sci parts.
-
Im pretty much with you guys on this as well... I think the science lab was meant to combat the OP-ness of transmitting in 0.22 and it has over compensated in such a way that makes transmissions useless... Also, speaking of scrubbing your experiments. I had a little problem the other day: I was doing some science on the mun and then brought my ship back to my kerbin space station. After docking I used the lab in the hope it would increase the 'bring it home' value. It didnt, meh. I then took jeb out on an eva and tried to put the experiments into my ssto. Aaaaaaand it didn't work... whats up with the Mk1 cockpit not liking experiments?! Kinda defeats the point of my ssto... On a side note: What Im waiting for is, when they bring in currency, a part that will sit in orbit (much like the science lab) and generate money at a slow pace. I think that would be cool.

Right, Well I have a 3 hr train journey on saturday, I shall draw them then
-
Sorry but I cant exactly draw your prof pic unless you give me a bigger image... Its quite small.

Suggestions for a Duna Lander?
Highlad replied to MrZayas1's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I would suggest putting lots of parachutes on the lander so that you wont need to use a powered decent. Depending on how confident with docking, you may want to consider launching your lander into LKO then launching a tug and docking them together then use the tug to get the lander there. Undock, deploy parachutes, land and explore! -
The optimisations have a greater effect on larger ships. Harv said at kerbalCon that if you have a small ship and its lagging like mad, the optimisations wont do much to improve performance as they are targeted at reducing lag for very large ships. I think it has something to do with streamlining the code...
