  1. Yes this indeed the way it's supposed to be... Why would you want to change this? What are you trying to achieve? Because this is generally what you want.
  2. Haha happened to me too when I was new to the game. The thing is that the engines produce enough electrical power for the probe to run during ascent but in orbit, your engines don't run...
  3. I'll definitely have a look at KW Rocketry, but SpacePort is down again... Yes, the game does have problems with anything BIG, but some peoples' designs that are huge fly pretty well, so it is possible. Generally, the trick to stable flight appears to be "the inability to control the craft so that it becomes unhandleable". This is apparently accomplished by giving ASAS no chance to create "wobble" by simply not having enough controls for it to do so... Have any of you seen Mulbin's Jool V? Proof for stable HUGE launchers I'll try to find a link to the thread...
  4. Anyone??? I think we can assume that Mk1 has a diameter of 1 metre. What would the Rockomax size be then? 2.5 maybe??? Any suggestions would be great, I will have a go at this right now and post screenshots...
  5. Hi, I've always wanted to build a 1:1 replica (sort of) of SpaceX's Falcon Heavy. Now that I actually want to build a space station, I need a heavy lifter, so this is the way I wanna go. The Falcon Heavy has three first stage cores (1 main fuselage + 2 side mounted boosters, which are equivalent to the core's first stage), which have a diameter of 3.6 metres. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to create such a fuselage using stock parts only. I' ve seen people do this in amazing ways with stock parts (e.g. Mulbin's Jool V Launcher), but im quite out of ideas on how to do it myself Any help is highly appreciated Steffen
  6. Hi there, after launching this little spaceplane into suborbit (carried by a large aircraft at launch, much like SpaceShipTwo), and safely returning Raysel Kerman to Kerbin, I would like to further explore the field of spaceplanes and SSTO's (picture of my spaceplane after landing): I already have a design in mind, but I have a question regarding controlling the plane: Can you manually enable/disable engines during flight, and if so, how do I do that? I'm asking because I will use turbojet engines as main propulsion until the atmosphere gets unsuitable. Then, I would like to switch to rocket engines (one of the 215 kN ones, plus two LV-N's) for orbit insertion and manoeuvring. The craft's ultimate goal will be to dock with a space station in Kerbin Orbit, or a large interplanetary ship for Laythe, etc... missions. The SSTO will be transporting and returning Kerbonauts. Any help is highly appreciated! Steffen
  7. Hi Deep Space Kraken Welcome to the KSP Forum!!! I like your name!!!
  8. Dear All, I have been wondering if anyone has had an attempt or has a REASONABLE idea how to conduct a manned mission to Duna without mods or cheats (MechJeb, etc...)? The mission should include landing on Duna and returning to Kerbin (we don't want our poor Kerbonauts to be stuck on Duna for eternity, much like the planned Mars 500 project ). From what I've seen/tried, there hasn't been any solution that worked or was even close. Tutorials I've seen used fuel cheats for infinite fuel (kinda dumb imo). I don't really see a way of getting enough fuel+crew+Duna Lander+etc. into Kerbin orbit in an efficient way (a.k.a. one launch )... Does anyone have suggestions/was successful at this??? Best Regards steffen_anywhere PS: I might go for building a spaceship in Kerbin orbit, out of several modules (would be cool, but freaking hard), but I thought there would be an easier solution... PS2: This is a goal even NASA has failed to accomplish, so it seems hard finally. Everything I've read about planned Mars missions suggested that the getting-huge-payload into orbit was one of the major problems (if we just ignore the budget for a moment as it is irrelevant to KSP )
