  1. Limited to the ones in the post for now...
  2. Seems like someone made their own OP mod for this challenge. .. Anyone can edit text to make their own OP parts.
  3. The original aircraft were not intended to go into orbit. I was using that as an example. Someone could use hyperedit to put their design at the threshold altitude and then on the island airfield.
  4. Hyper edit to place an unflyable design in orbit... I don't see how OP mods will help someone accurately create an accurate model of these aircraft.... But you gave me an idea, hence why I said rules subject to change.
  5. Ads disabled to prove that I'm running this challenge for the sake of fun and community involvement. You could have been nice about it.
  6. I'll copy and paste and form into a decent post when I get home. Sorry on mobile and the post was scheduled. I'm just eager to get the word out so I posted here. The ads make the site break even with operating costs... so I can run the site without the wife complaining... the site (and running the server for it) is a hobby of mine. People find some of the content I post helpful. Also, I get some hands on experience with maintaining an Ubuntu-based webserver that I wouldn't receive otherwise. Geez. If you are really upset about seeing ads, I'll gladly disable them for this post. This isn't some attempt to make money or anything. I'm using my site as a centralized location for information and submission because this challenge is being distributed in many locations, not just here.
  7. Just one of the historic aircraft that you'll be tasked with creating and flying! All the info and 28 aircraft in the challenge can be found here (ad-free): http://www.thelonegamers.com/2015/05/05/the-lone-gamers-kerbal-1-0-odd-spaceplane-challenge/ With Kerbal Space Program 1.0 released, I bring you The Lone Gamers Kerbal 1.0 Odd Spaceplane Challenge. Due to a bunch of great additions and changes to the game in regards to spaceplane functionality, this challenge is designed to get players familiar with the new properties of KSP. The Odd Spaceplane Challenge There are 28 odd aircraft designs here from history. Many flew, some did not. Your job is to replicate the designs and make them fly. 1. Replicate the design as closely as possible. 2. Get it to fly. 3. Anything beyond basic flight is icing on the cake. Rules for Entries Any entries that break the rules will not be counted. The individual making the entry will not be penalized beyond not getting points for the entry. 1. Screenshots are required of the craft in flight. They must show fuel levels, orbit stats (use mechjeb or kerala engineer or another such mod to accomplish this). 2. Video of entire flights uploaded to YouTube is a major plus. 3. Hyperedit (or similar editing) is strictly prohibited. 4. Upload all of your entries at once. They can be across multiple replies but preferably not scattered across a large timespan. Include a list of mods used and their versions. This is subject to change at any time. 1. Replicas will be judged by our staff and given anywhere from 1 to 10 points for accuracy to include function. 2. Replicas must achieve an altitude of 500 meters to receive 10 points. 3. Land at the island airport without losing parts for an additional 10 points. 4. Replicas that use only stock parts will receive a bonus of 10 points.
  8. I'm thoroughly awaiting the release of this for 1.0.2. I can't play without it!
  9. Hi everyone, With the release of v1.0 I plan on running a challenge that has players recreate odd aircraft designs from history. There will be a selection of aircraft that I provide a photo of and a brief description. The players are tasked with recreating each aircraft in KSP as closely as possible and then attempting to get each design to fly. They may attempt as many designs replicas as they want. I need a points system for this. I'm not sure how to rate how closely each entry is to the intended original design. Maybe a poll of 1-10 of some sort and open the poll to every other entrant and then take the percentages and apply a point value based on the percentages? What about a points system for flight? Did it fly? How "well" did it fly? That sort of thing. While these designs were not intended for spaceflight, I'd like to award points for pushing the envelope of each design and actually achieving space flight. Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated!
  10. I noticed that. Once the 3D heightmaps are no longer rendered I see the 2D texture wrapping of Earth. I can actually vaguely see the Earth texture in Kerbin's oceans. How would I go about replacing the heightmaps? Same thing happens to Duna. Any idea how to adjust that? And to replace Ike with a model of phobos? Ike's unique orbit puts it in a lot of shots I take in orbit around Duna - I'd like it to look realistic if it does show up.
  11. I used the 4k textures from RSS and successfully replaced the stock textures using Texture Replacer. Thanks for the advice! There will be a teaser trailer released hopefully before the new year. It's a zero-budget project where a few subject matter experts in the area of astronomy, space exploration, space craft engineering and general science are creating a documentary on the next 15-25 years of space exploration's effort to set foot on Mars. Despite the lower quality video editing and footage, the science and information behind it should be pretty solid.
  12. I tried but apparently all of the space craft designs I already have are null and void because even though the 1/10th maintains the same distances, the planets are larger which increases Delta-V requirements in some instances.
  13. Thanks! I'll give that a shot and let you know how that works out!
  14. I'm doing some filming using KSP as my platform to create 3D visuals for an educational video project. I need a way to replace the textures of KSPs planets to that of the real solar system but that is the ONLY thing I need to replace. I tried Real Solar System but it also changes the sizes and orbits of planets. I only need to alter the visuals of the planets to their real life counterparts. I'm new to retexturing and such otherwise I'd do it myself. Any suggestions?
  15. Anyone having any problem with the GUI not loading at all? I have the latest MJ installed (v2.3.1). I attach the MJ part to my rocket and I get nothing. I have tried deleting the PluginData folder (only contained MJ files) thinking it was a placement error but it didn't change anything. I have other mods installed. Here is a screenshot of my GameData directory. All mods have been updated as of 2 days ago. MJ is the only one giving problems.
