  1. i had made the mistake of turning the physics up to .80, thinking that means it only cycles every 3/4th's of a second. My game felt broken also, and I didnt make the link that I had caused it to happen. I fiddled around and turned the physics down to .02 and all of a sudden, all of my stuff is lag free!I'm guessing that it is USING .02 of every second to calculate physics, instead of using 8/10ths of every second to calculate physics. Anyway, I thought it set how often it cycles, rather than how much effort it puts into it. Not sure if this could be contributing to your issue. note: I can't recall the actual name of the setting to change, and am not near my pc, if someone would elaborate this for me, I'm sure it would be appreciated
  2. 37 years old, and some characters to meet the minimum
  3. Think I may not be getting the question here, but we all know how the Columbia orbiter was lost, don't we? Slight crack in the frame, plasma got inside the structure during re-entry at some ungodly speed, and ripped the internals apart. Re-entry is performed from orbital speeds in RL. They don't stop in space and fall down, they come screaming in at mach 5 over the pacific to land in Florida on the Atlantic. Dont they? maybe Im supremely misinformed from years of American press covering it, but that pic is pretty much what I picture in RL, gussied up for visual effects.OT: You guys see the video of the meteor in Russia a couple of months ago? Rrrruuuuummmmmbbbbbbbbllllllleeeeee...KABOOM!
  4. Great idea that would lead to some free marketing. Also, the feedback could be invaluable if there were actually a "user base" in the NASA ranks. Of course, the downside is that the next NASA rocket may be a 13 stage monstrosity. And dont get me started on what the monitors in the control room would look like. "Johnson, do you have a vector for us?" Johnson:"Yes sir!" (Alt-tab, click click) "Ummm I had it a second ago. . ."
  5. In the VAB, next to the "parts" tab in the upper left, there is a tab labeled "action groups". Click that tab, and select a category. then click a part on your ship and it will move it into the selected category, and you can pick an action for that part. For instance, if you pick "Gear", then point at your landing struts, you could select "Toggle Gear" or "Lower Gear". Then when you hit the Gear key, what you selected will occur. (Or Lights, or all of your solar panels at once, etc. . .) This can be useful for staging, decoupling, and landing. The "Custom" tabs are your number keys 1-9 (along the top, not the Numpad). Also, symmetry works for action groups, so you need only select 1 of your 3 solar panels if they were placed in symmetry mode. Hope that helps!
  6. I totally dig this! And it sure could make future wars fun.
  7. I imagine you will need to be productive while waiting for the optimal Jool transfer window.
  8. I wanna feed my kerbals cookies, when they're finished breakdancing.
  9. I would suggest leaving the entire stock parts library accessible to them. It will foster creativity, and you will get much more variation in their rocket builds. I fear that if you limit them to a few basic parts, you will get 15 ships, very similar in nature. Then it becomes a game of skill for them. There is an "intent" behind every build, and having the tools available fosters that creativity. (Not to mention how often you are wrong when guessing/learning.
  10. Voidryder's post gets a "10" from the American judge! Well said. You seem to have the gift of gab Whackjob, You're gonna fit right in. Another tip: Sometimes light and streamlined can send your kerbals zooming fast, solving some structural AND fuel problems in the process. Having said that, it never happens. Like these guys are telling you, DREAM BIG or go home. Both the engineering side and flight aspect are more fun, more significant, when you're trying to get aloft in a 200 ton, 11 stage beast that parts fall off of every time you sneeze. Enjoy!
  11. ASAS: Calculating Engineering technique and expertise before liftoff. Me: Okay buddy, just hollar when you're ready. ASAS: Umm, it appears this ship was designed by a borderline psychopath suffering from bouts of epilepsy. Me: Allright, Great! Are you ready?! Liftoff! ASAS: I'm afraid I can't do that, Dave.
  12. When you try to right click Scott Manleys orbital views on youtube, to try and get a look at the backside of the planet. Then think "Oh, thats not going to work.", and try it again 3 minutes later.
  13. When you de-couple your lander while falling to tylo, but it does not detach because you thought it would be a good idea to brace the lander to the chassis with 8 struts for liftoff.
  14. I'm a 37 yr old american, sci-fi nut. My interests are astronomy, physics, and WWII. I studied much of WWII growing up, learning old Sub sims (Silent Hunter), and ALL the flight sims (Aces over Europe/Pacific, to falcon 4.0) Other than that, I had the consoles to play the usual mario and such, but being a physics/astronomy guy, never really got the "calculation" intensive release that I kind of longed for deep down (Battlecruiser 3000 A.D. anyone? No?!) Not only has Squad filled a hole in my world that needed planted, they do it with lighthearted humor, and a true support of the community (or is it the other way around?) Ennyway, I wrote the Hotel Hades 2 and 3 mods for Legend of Grimrock, know some LUA coding, some blender for modeling, even some animation (no really, i suck. . .). I'm just poppin in to let you guys know that I LOVE WHAT YOU'RE DOING. N that goes to the Dev's, and the community. Kudos! I'm gonna be around, may fall enough in love to start building parts/mods, although, from outward appearances, things like mechjeb and MAPSAT are way beyond my skills, I see this going VERY FAR. Squad, if you guys see this, a couple of things, I would say to you from ground level: 1: Keep the humor/disconnect part of it, NEVER take it from this lighthearted, "serious" fun, to "Serious /Serious". And B: I think youve reached the time in Dev, that the foundations are laid for the external physics/exploration part (I know, theres SO much to DO!) but I really think, the next step, for these hardcore guys/supporters, is an interior AVAILABILITY. Large command capsules for space station/moon bases, that can be walked around in, EXPLORED. (The current engine would be fine, even. Although a "planted on the ground" approach would be an awesome start for everyone that you could tweak later) with a couple of consoles that can be interacted with/cause catastrophe for humor. Let em BE Jeb, and Bill. This is NOT conceivable from a dev standpoint, but from ground level, new fan status, what if, one day, I can BE bill, in the command pod, eating the last yogurt, and leaving a note on the dashboard for Jeb. (Use the 1 Person command pod with radial viewports if you dont know what im talking about, in fact, it's quite blurry, and I may have misinterpreted it. Dialogue welcome on the subject!) So, nice ta meet ya guys, I'm 2 weeks in, and JUST tnite, cracked the nut of how to stage long term missions. You must make a refueling station, in stable orbit, that can refuel your large ships after using so much deltaV to break orbit. You use a space station to replenish before leaving for Jool. I was actually to the desperate length of building 17 stage rockets to pull it off, wasted time, but MANY engineering lessons. ANOTHER great point about this game/community! Okay, I'll save that for a later rant Nice ta meet ya!
