  1. With the new update I'm ok with the date slipping. Please have the report posted by Monday the 28th
  2. Use the one from post #34 of this thread. That is the latest
  3. No problem Stochasty. We will postpone your mission and move to the next one. Mission 6: Polar Problems Background: Much to the dismay of young Kerbal pilots everywhere, delays in the latest Eve mission have caused it to be postponed. With the questions about Eve's atmosphere unanswerable for the moment, KRAK turns to another nearby world: Duna. It appears to have some white stuff at the poles that KRAK hopes is ice. They need a sample of each side in order to determine if it is food. In other news, the scientists on Minmas are still in need of a commander to guide them back to the orbital station to continue their work. Primary Objectives: 1. Send a Kerbaled spacecraft to Duna 2. Return a sample from both polar ice caps to Kerbin Secondary Objectives: A. Return the Scientists on Minmas to the orbital station B. Return all Kerbals sent on this mission safely to Kerbin Parameters: Land a Kerbaled craft at both the north and south poles of Duna and return them safely to Kerbin. Plant flags at both poles to show that you have been there. Landing at one pole and driving overland to the other is allowed but will take much longer. However, lifting off from one pole and landing at the other will require more fuel. The choice is yours. The scientists on Mimas also need to return to the station. Load them into their lander and dock it with the station in orbit. Restrictions: Due to budget cuts only one lander can be afforded. Only one lander may be launched from Kerbin for this mission. Although secondary launch(s) for a tug are allowed. Mission Commander: Spock Kerman(The Destroyer) Mission Due Date: 10/19/2013 The Destroyer, please post your acceptance of the mission on this thread within 24 hours. Good luck!
  4. Did I say that? I guess I did. I will try to remember that for future missions. Looking for a report tomorrow Stochasty. Remember if you haven't finished just give us an update and request for more time if you think you need it.
  5. Mission 5: A bird's-eye view Background: The three weather stations on the shore of what is now being called the "Rodwell Sea" have return some fascinating data. According to the probes, the atmosphere is over 3 times at dense as Kerbin's and the temperature is much hotter than would be comfortable for Kerbals. There is only one way to know for sure though if the air is breathable: breathe it! Now is the time for some thrilling Kerbal piloting... Primary Objectives: 1. Fly an aerial craft over the surface of Eve 2. Return a sample of the atmosphere to Kerbin Secondary Objectives: A. Return the Scientists on Minmas from their expedition to the Arkeinen station B. Return Bill Kerman and any other Kerbals sent on this mission to Kerbin safely. Parameters: Bring back a sample of Eve's atmosphere so that KRAK scientists can use an intern to determine if it is breathable. To do this an aircraft must descend to where the atmosphere is at least as dense at that of Kerbin (~10,000m) and slow down to a point where sonic effects are no longer taking place(no contrails). Explore as much of the surface as fuel allows and return to Kerbin. Remember that the Minmas station is avaliable for mid-mission refueling and Bill Kerman is already in orbit around Eve and available as a pilot. Mission Commander: Stoch Kerman Mission Due Date: 10/9/2013 Other Notes: Please everyone remember that we are not using any mods on this. Sotchasty please post your acceptance of the mission on this thread.
  6. @Sierra: The link worked for me. Does it work for other people? @1D-1()T: The link you posted for the download said that access was denied. Can you make it public so I/we can all download it? P.S.: Great looking mission!
  7. The link on the first page of this thread should be correct.
  8. Back up and running! As soon as 1D-1()T post his report I will get the mission assignment for Stochasty posted so they can start.
  9. Just unpack the latest save file that was posted(I think it was a .rar file) and copy the folder "KRAK" to the saves folder of your game.
  10. Mission 3 report posted ahead of schedule. Mission 4 assigned. Head over to the mission thread to check them out.
  11. Mission 4: A Sister World? Background: The establishment of the first extra-Kerbin science outpost has proved that Kerbals can survive for long periods in space. This has opened the door to exploring other planets. The leaders of KRAK now look to a new world. Perhaps a place that they can permanently settle? In other news, no one has seen Jeb since his return from the Mun. Has the hero of Kerbin decided to take some R&R? Primary Objectives: 1. Send space craft to Eve 2. Land a rover and explore the surface Secondary Objectives: A. Determine if Eve is suitable for Kerbal life. B. Bring Jebediah home. Parameters: Determine if Eve is suitable for habitation by Kerbals. This will require landing a rover and driving either 50km in one direction or exploring a 20km radius around the landing site. If Kerbals are sent then a return craft will be required to bring them home. The discovery of anything extraordinary would provide a much needed boost to the program as well. To determine if the planet is habitable, we must know what the temperature and air pressure are at the surface. To track how these change over time, you will need to drop at least 3 "weather stations" on the surface. Each should have a pressure gauge, thermometer and antenna. Use these markers to prove that you have traveled the required distances. Mission Commander: Rodwell Kerman Mission Due Date: 9/23/2013
  12. You jumped the gun on me Psudeo. No worries. Good mission. In the future I will add any secondary objectives in these mission assignments so be sure to wait for them. (I promise I will be better about posting them in a timely manner.) Mission 3: Springboard to the Planets Background: The spectacular vista returned to Kerbin by the 3 Musketeers mission has driven the Kerbal desire for space travel into an unprecedented fervor. With the public's support, the leaders of KRAK looked further out into the solar system for new adventure. (They didn't mention the fact that the rover that took the picture tipped over and rolled down the hill after taking that picture.) Primary Objectives: 1. Establish a research and refueling outpost at Minmas 2. Design and test a fuel tanker to keep the station/base supplied and rotate crews Secondary Objectives: A. Fill the station completely with fuel Parameters: Design and place a permanent station to study Minmas. This station will also act as a refueling point for future ships on the way to other planets so the station must be able to hold at least 16 tons (half a Jumbo-64 tank) of fuel. If the station is on the surface, it must be equiped with a rover for sending scientists on expeditions. If the station is in orbit then it must have a lander for the scientists to use instead. Also design a fuel tanker and crew shuttle capable of completely refueling the station and rotating all of the crew and returning them safely to Kerbin. You will need to consider carefully the size of the crew as there are only 8 Kerbalnauts avaliable. Remember that this station will be most useful if it can be upgraded in the future as needs change. Think modular.
  13. Congratulation to mission commander Alakrity Fitzhugh Kerman on a successful mission and a great picture. Standby tonight for the next mission assignment.
  14. Hey Everyone. Sorry for the unintended closure of the previous thread but I want to get this going again and regain momentum. Alacrity has posted an awesome update video on his mission over on the mission report thread. I encourage everyone to watch it. Actual mission report to follow soon. So when we lost the old thread we were talking about flags and I was trying to answer any lingering questions about structure of this game. as a refresher and from stochasty and my response Are there any lingering concerns or people who decided to leave? Let me know who you are here or via PM so I can take you off the list. We had 2 submissions for flags: From bellino From DeltaC00K13Z Anyone have other ideas or something else they want to talk about?
  15. *NEWS FLASH* Today was an historic day for all Kerbals. The United Kations has approved the creation and indefinite funding of the Kerbin Rocketry and Aeronautics Komission(KRAK). Kaelen Kerman, the newly appointed Komissioner of KRAK had this to say. "As a species we have chosen space. We have chosen to go forth from Kerbin and learn all we can about this great solar system of ours. We will also seek to establish a permanent presence on suitable worlds we find. We will build a brighter future for all Kerbal kind." *At this point the Komissioner waved to the crowd as he mounted his jetski and rocketed off into the sunset amid a shower of sparkling mist.* Out of Character Ok, so here is what is going on. I have an idea for a continuous game in the style of Boatmurdered. (If you already know what that is you are an awesome person.) The way this will work is that I will collect sign ups on this forum and make a list of all participants. Then I will start a new game and send it to the first person on the list along with a mission. When their mission has ended (in either success or failure) they will post a mission report(probably in a different thread) and put the save file up for download. We pass it to the next person on the list along with a new mission and so on. Each mission will be based on what happened in the previous missions. For example, say mission 4 involves landing a science station in a specific location on Duna. Mission 5 or 6 may then involve retrieval of the samples collected during mission 4. Or, maybe mission 3 did not go so well and there are now 3 Kerbals stranded in orbit around the Mun. Mission 4 will likely be a rescue mission. The overall goal of this campaign will be a grand tour of all the worlds of the Kerbol system. At least 1 mission will be sent to every planetary body. Right now I am going to restrict this to stock parts just to keep it simple. There may be advancements in Kerbin R&D later that open up some mods. Rules 1. Mission Protocol 1. Stock parts only(at least for now.) 2. No Reverting. What happens, happens. 3. No recruiting new Kerbals without authorization. Their lives matter. 4. You may design and test your ships for your missions in a separate game as much as you like. This is to represent the simulation and testing that would happen on any real space mission. 5. Do your best to keep part counts down as not everyone has high powered computers. 2. Mission Reporting 1. Mission reports must be filed within 2 weeks from the submission of the last report. I will PM people when it is their turn. 2. If you mission is taking longer than 2 weeks you must still file a report on it's status to date and explain why you need an extension. If it is not a good enough reason then your mission will either be canceled or you will be replaced as mission commander. 3. Pics, or it didn't happen 3. Logistics 1. I will keep an archive of old save files so that we can RetCon if something(someone) stupid happens. 2. After each mission report I will post the new mission and name its commander. 3. Missions may be declined upon receiving them but you will move to the back of the line for your turn. I will be sure to make it so that everyone gets at least one mission before anyone gets a second(assuming this continues that long). 16. Look awesome man! Can't wait to see how it goes. I like the addition of the permanent orbiter. The future inhabitants of the Mun will appreciate it.
  17. Stochasty I totally agree with everything you are saying. That is exactly the experience I am trying to create. That is why I split the missions into primary and secondary objectives. The primary objectives are the planned goals of KRAK. The "five year plan" if you will. The secondary objectives are exactly what you describe. The "Oh ****!" rescue missions and corrections of previous failures. I think we are definitely on the same page as far as what we want to see happen here. I know I said that I would assign everyone's missions early but practically I think I am really only going to be able to come up with a mission 2-3 missions in advance. Any further and the missions just start becoming general long term goals rather than clear and specific objectives. With this setup I think it will definitely organically develop to a point where there are missions that are purely for rescue. I can also conceive of situations where someone's Primary objectives may have to be postponed due to a previous mission failure. At that point their primary objective will become fixing the problem that is holding their mission up. I hope that people can remain flexible on these missions as I am hoping that complete chaos will develop over time.
  18. Ok so it looks like a majority of people have voted on the polls and we've gotten some good comments and ideas on how to better structure this. I've tried to keep everyone's interests in mind here so please don't get mad at the solution I am going with. Here it is. I am going to stick to running just this one game. If anyone wants to break off and start a splinter game then that is totally fine with me. Just PM me a list of who is leaving so I know who to remove from the roster. For those who do stick around here is how it is going to continue. I will work on pre-planning all of the missions(I already have a couple done). Keeping in mind any special requests people made on their applications, I will assign them via PM to each person. The missions aren't secret or anything. I just don't want to clutter up the mission report thread too much. Your missions will have 2 sets of objectives: Primary and Secondary. The primary objectives are fixed and will not change between when I assign you the mission and when you actually get to run it. The secondary objective will be fluid and may change depending on what happens during the missions that come before yours. When your turn comes up, I will post your mission objective and parameters on the mission report thread. That will be the final, official copy of your orders and you will play based on that. In between those two times I will try to PM you any changes to your secondary objectives but be prepared to be flexible. Once your mission is posted on the report thread I will send you a PM letting you know it is there. At that point you have 48 hours to post a reply on that thread letting everyone know that you accept and are working on your mission. If you don't post a reply within 48 hours then we will move on to the next commanders mission instead. You won't be out of the game or anything but you will be moved down a slot. At the end of the next mission your mission will be assigned again. If you still don't acknowledge it on the thread within 48 hours then you will be moved to the back of the line. If you acknowledge your mission but fail to post a report within 2 weeks, we will act as though you had not acknowledged the mission. So this is the way its gonna be. Sorry if your concerns aren't addressed by this plan. I did my best to include everyone and make this game fun to play. I really appreciate all of you showing an interest in this. I never thought this would be so popular but I guess too many players is a good problem to have. Thank you all for supporting this and thank you to those who may be leaving for a splinter game. I appreciate you all too. So now that that is dealt with: we were talking on here about a flag for KRAK. Does anyone have some artistic ability that they could use to make us a custom flag? I would love to see some peoples designs or ideas if they have any.
  19. What part is that coming out of the "Pistons?" Where the spark plug would be. I can't figure out how you did that.
  20. Yeah that is definitely different than my plans. Sounds fun though.
  21. That thing is incredible. Would definitely melt my computer. Awesome movie and awesomer ship. Nice work.
  22. Fine with me. If you get a group just let me know the names so I know who to take off my list. Also, I'm open to any suggestions if you think there is stuff I could be doing better. This thing has gotten much bigger than I thought it would much faster than I thought it would so any helpful input from you or any other player would be greatly appreciated. I understand though if you just want to go try to do your own thing.
  23. Ok so I closed the sign-up. I'm sorry to do that but, as Octagon rightly pointed, out we are getting to the point where people are signing up for a slot that may not actually get to play for a year:0.0: (honestly I didn't realize this would be so popular). I do want to address though the high player count we now have. I am reluctant to start concurrent games because the whole point of this was to have one continuous legacy. It does seem like a cool idea though to have "alternate universes" so to speak that are running the same missions and see where they diverge. My alternative to making multiple games was to put some extra work in now and get as many missions planned out as possible and try to assign everyone a mission now. (like a real space program planning out their missions) I could then assign everyone their missions and they could start working on the design and mission plan now. This would help cut down the time that each person has the game. I guess I will put up a poll. What does everyone want to do? I am open to either option (or a third if someone suggests it).
  24. I don't know. I was thinking about that and I suppose if you want to you can make a mission specific flag for your mission but I really want there to be a single KRAK flag for the overall organization. Also, just FYI, feel free to put comments and discussion of the mission on the mission report thread. Once we get a few reports on there I will add a table of contents to the OP there to link to each report.
