[PLUGIN+PARTS][0.23] SCANsat terrain mapping
H4mst0R replied to damny's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Damny should release this plugin! Seriously, Innsewerants has already released a still not good working version of ISA mapsat and calls less instability a feature. And the people not following the developers forum don't know about SCANsat... SCANsat nearly has no bugs and it runs on my old machine without any problems. Even with a ****load of probes it becomes just a little "slow" while rendering the big map. But getting a hires map of the celestial body of your choice within minutes? No problem, SCANsat here we go! So PLEASE damny, release it! Projects like this will never get finished. (So don't release when it's "ready") But save the people from fiddling around with the "only" mapping plugin they know, causing only frustration... Give them your baby! Reveal the holy grail of mapping! -

Seriously, Damny is just genius. The speed of his SINGLE development is just insane. I'm writing on a mapping plugin too, with less features. Only single scanning and only with biome and height maps and I'm not even at the point where the map is drawn. Also looking at his code to get some "inspiration", but I code like a one week old monkey compared to him. Hail to damny! -

The sat really generates images. I've read through his code and it's just beautiful / genius. Everything comes from Unity. So if Squad would implement another Planet, this plugin would be able to deliver full details (terrain, biome, anomalies, etc.) immediately. I like your idea for creating science based on the percentage of the map completition. And it could be done quite easy compared to creating a mapping system like this (low memory usage, functionality, scan types, etc.). Damny said, that he is more into creating more features than eliminating bugs, so the chances are not too bad.
