  1. Thank you all for the excellent information. Still tinkering away, made a suborbital plane last night, needs more fuel. As for why I want spaceplanes. They are pretty. They may not be the most efficient/easiest way to do things. I just like them. Same reason I want an unreasonably large kerbin station. It makes me happy to do so.
  2. I finally figured out the problem. I haven't unlocked the parts yet. So they won't show up.
  3. Okay, cool. Thank you. So it's doable, I just need to tinker with it. I just didn't want to waste time trying to do something impossible when I could use it getting science to getting the tech to do the thing I wanted to do.
  4. With the recent release of B9 for 1.0.5 (thank you B9 team, love your stuff) I have been attempting to build a SSTO spaceplane. But I am not sure I have the equipment to do so. I just unlocked supersonic flight in the tech tree. Can I do it with that or do I need to wait until I unlock hypersonic flight?
  5. These look awesome. Gonna try them out. But, uh, where do I extract sub assemblies to? Nevermind found it. Never mind again. I put them in the subassembly folder for my save, but they aren't in the game. Did I miss a step?
  6. You can, but why would you when they are just floating around in space for free?
  7. Given that I am in control of the only space program, located at the only occupied buildings on the planet, I can only conclude that Kerbals are either grown in space junk, or sent from another planet like superman. Cause the only time I get new ones is by rescuing them from orbit.
  8. I was under the impression that Kerbals had a plant based biology. Also, who needs love when you can ride an explosion at mach 3 into space?
  9. Haha haha. I may have unintentionally invented tip assist, ala south park mobility scooters, for my landers. Jeb was on his first Lunar Landing, I flubbed the landing and it tipped over. Normal procedure is either a rescue mission or a revert. I decided to see if I could fix it myself. I have DMagic orbital sciences and universal storage with the lovely inline compartments for them. I decided to see if the magnetometer would interact with them ground, yay it does. So I rolled them Lander so that was facing down and toggled it, which pushed them Lander closer to upright, with that and liberal use of RCS I was almost able to get it standing back up. Between poor leg placement and me getting greedy them main engine it failed explosively. But I think proof of concept may be there. Gonna do a redesign and will try to post some pictures after work.
  10. That is an awesome idea, I might have to steal it. How are you gonna find the anomalies? ScanSat or similar?
  11. Eh, for me I am more interested in the engineering and building aspects than the flying. I don't want my imagination limited by my poor piloting.
  12. Technically that is termed a reciprocating barrel. Very awesome. Have you tried it out on a ship in space? Does the energy transfer to the ship? Cause that would be amazing. Fire a broadside then the ship has to reorient for the next.
  13. That was was exactly why I didn't revert. I have seen Jeb ride a cartwheeling ball of flame down the runway smiling the whole time and survive. This was clearly an imposter. I will find the real Jeb tied up in a closet in the Astronaut Complex.
  14. I realize the death of Jeb is not exactly a tragedy. He has ridden eternal, shiny, and chrome to Valhalla in millions of horrific explosions. I felt I had to share though, as my Jeb just died in perhaps the most prosaic way possible. After a fairly simple early game LKO science mission, didn't even complete a full orbit. Landed safely in some low hills. Jeb steps out to do an EVA. Apparently his foot slipped on the ladder and he rolled down the hill to his doom. He didn't even roll that far. Maybe 50 feet. I was so disappointed to have Jeb die in such a pedestrian fashion I didn't even think about reverting. Just...Really?
  15. I like the test contracts. Sure some of them are ridiculous, but that is half the fun. Before the contracts I never messed around with planes/spaceplanes because I really had no use for them. It was much easier to just build a rocket that will do the same thing without hours of finicky adustment and testing in the SPH. Now I enjoy building planes, they have a purpose. Also testing jet engines on the Mun is about as Kerbal as you can get. Their idea of science is "What happens when I push this button?" BOOOM! "Awesome! What happens if I push this button on the Mun?".
  16. Yes. Yes. A million times yes. Love your work. Make it GPU meltingly glorious. My computer my catch on fire, but I will still be docking as the fire rages around me!
  17. I will have to try all this again, I broke ubuntu trying to do something. So I decided to switch to mint. God I love free operating systems.
  18. Okay, deleted my settings. Ran fine until hitting about 30k during deorbit. here is the log http://pastebin.com/NNjAZgcJ
  19. So delete my KSP settings.cfg then just run the program as normal?
  20. It's 32bit. Here is the KSP.log http://pastebin.com/KxBkdE6b Also, thank you.
  21. So I am a complete newbie to using Linux. I am trying to run 23.5 but it keeps crashing mainly when going to launch pad, at occaisonally when flying. Not sure if it is my computer, me, or just not installed correctly. Can someone give me the complete idiots guide to properly installing KSP for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS?
  22. Not sure if this has been suggested before, tried searching didn't see anything. Like the title says, I would like the ability to toggle parts into their extended mode while in the VAB. I realize it is a purely aesthetic matter, but I am anal about that kinda thing, and it upsets me when I build a nice shiny rocket launch it to orbit only to discover that my comm dish clips through the vehicle/solar panel/another comm dish. Thank you.
  23. Well, hmm, this is unfortunate. So I was trying to do the historic missions from the tutorial section of the wiki. Had Luna-9 in orbit around the Mun, turned the ship retrograde to get ready for my deorbit burn, apparently retrograde at that time was also the perfect angle to block all of my solar panels from the sun. So now Luna 9 is orbiting the mun at 10k above the surface, with a full tank of monoprop and about 1000dv left in the transfer stage.
  24. Awesome thank you. Another casualty of overusing mechjeb, I had the UI scaled way down. I never noticed the node on the ball was offset from prograde. I just assumed point exactly pro/retrograde.
