  2. Quick question: I've built a rover, but the controls are reversed, so that W drives backwards and S drives forwards. I've tried rearranging the wheels to no avail, and selecting "Invert Steering" on the wheels only seems to apply to turns. What should I to make it recognize the intended front of the vehicle?

  4. What's the current state of this mod? It seems to have changed a lot, and the changelog isn't terribly helpful. I know there's no particular reward to sample analysis yet, but I'm about to launch my first Mun mission and am wondering whether it would be worth downloading. How does manned analysis work at this stage?
  5. What would the use of that be? It would mean having to run a whole lot of extra software if you just want to install a mod, and also consume a bit of extra resources when you just want to play the game. Why make it more complex than it has to be? "Drop the mod folder into the GameData folder" is pretty great, if you ask me.

  7. The base game does not currently provide any means to do this. There is a great plugin called Graphotron, though, which allows you to export readings from any sensor on your ship as well as other data, such as the ship's altitude. You can see it plot a graph in-game, export an image of the graph, or export the actual data to make your own graphs with.

I think I understand it better, now...but considering the precise timing of the different orbits and the overall complexity of this scenario, suddenly my eight-satellite constellation (four geosynchronous, two in an eccentric orbit over the north pole, two in an eccentric orbit over the south pole) doesn't sound so bad anymore. XD
  9. Even if you are the administrator, Windows enjoys restricting games in the Program Files (x86) folder, which your games are probably in if you have Steam there. Try moving the KSP folder anywhere else and see if it runs better from there.
  10. Before the edit, the original post used the word long, which gave me an incorrect mental image...hence my confusion.
  11. No, it won't be moving at all (relative to the Mun). What horizontal force would there be to set it in motion? Ordinarily, you provide that by burning prograde. And even though the Mun doesn't have drag, you'd still experience friction. Does the Great Wall of China move at the same speed as something in a 6000 kilometer-high orbit? I'm not sure I fully understand your question.
  12. (Sorry for the necro.) I want to try out this configuration, so it can replace my inefficient 8-satellite constellation in 0.21. But I'm drawing a blank on the parameters... what are the longitude of periapsis, longitude of the ascending node and mean anomaly? And more importantly, how do I control them; how do I actually get into those orbits? I understand inclination, eccentricity and the semi-major axis, and I use Kerbal Engineer, if that helps. I know I could just try to rendezvous with the markers, but I'd like to have a better understanding of it and be able to use it in a new game. (On a different note, is there a convenient way to work this out for any given body, e.g. the Mun, Duna or Laythe? Might be worth posting on the wiki.)

  15. Engineering is not about doing things in the easiest possible way. It is setting a goal, and designing something that will help you achieve that goal. It is nothing less than bending the very fabric of time and space to your will!
  16. So I should count on 70320 seconds of darkness, then, plus eclipses? That's great, my current design gives me 76661 seconds of power! And my two solar arrays will recharge the battery in 208 seconds, which should be more than enough to make use of pre- and post-eclipse sunlight. Thanks for the help, everyone. My current design: The part the solar arrays are attached to is the battery, which holds a charge of 7500; it's pretty powerful, but weighs a lot as well. (And it's the only one in this size I had.) I intend to attach a small rover to the bottom docking port when deploying it, and later if I can I'll lift up the station with KAS and attach it to a manned structure, so it can use the RemoteCommand module it has to direct moon missions.
  17. I want to land a base station at the Mun's equator, which will receive RemoteTech satellite dish signals from two communication relays in orbit around Kerbin. It will then transmit the signal to satellites orbiting Mun, via antenna. The base station would always be pointing towards Kerbin, seeing as Mun is tidally locked, and the satellites are spaced evenly apart so at least one has a clear line of sight to Mun at any time. The issue is providing power to the station. I want to do it with solar power, but that presents a problem. The base station would be pointing away from the sun for at least half of its orbit, and Kerbin will eclipse the sun regularly as well. Can anyone give me an estimate of how many hours of darkness I should count on? I need to know how many batteries to put on the base station.
  18. It does have a surface, actually. It's not supposed to, but it does.
  19. If you're not using RemoteTech, you can lock staging with, if I remember correctly, Alt+L. Then you can press the space bar to your heart's content until you actually need staging again. (RemoteTech automatically locks staging and handles staging through its own code, necessary to be able to lock the controls if probes are out of contact and to implement signal delay.)
  20. My first landing attempt was actually on Minmus...I just got a Mapsat in orbit, and decided it would be easier to lower the transport vehicle to Minmus than return it to Kerbin. All went pretty well, with a nice, slow descent until about 1000 meters from the surface. Then the RemoteTech satellites I had fixed on the vehicle lost contact, I lost control of the vehicle, and it started plumetting towards the ground, impacting it at a cool 75 m/s.

  22. This is going to sound dumb, but...how do you correctly assemble the Aeroprobe? The landing gear and wings I've managed to do, and it flies that way, but where do I put the rudder and ailerons? I tried attaching them and the probe decided it wanted to do loops all the time.
  23. I think my biggest achievement has been using Figaro GPS to create a working GPS system... the satellites are evenly space and you can get a fix anywhere on the globe, even the poles!
