  1. Is anyone else getting an error 'KSP.exe has stopped working'? I\'ve downloaded two copies of the program, but it repeats the problem with each new file.
  2. I made this a few years ago...thought it would be well-received here.
  3. Ah, thank you very much for explaining the process. It seems like a very well-written and easy-to-use program.
  4. I\'m afraid I\'m still rather in-the-dark as to how to use this particular program... ..may I ask for a more in-depth tutorial? Is it possible to put a vehicle currently in the VAB into an 'instant orbit'?
  5. Gentlemen, I believe we have just experienced the KSP equivalent of Post-Apollo.
  6. Indeed. Serious forays into the depths of interplanetary space will be no small feat. Vehicles will need to be designed with the utmost precision and planning, accounting for a variety of unexpected scenarios the intrepid Kerbal crew might encounter. Back-up systems must be implemented, an orbital trajectories must be planned so as to allow the crew a safe return in the event of catastrophe. For extended-duration missions, careful consideration must be taken with the interior living space of the craft itself; even the fearless Jedediah is no doubt susceptible to insanity if confined to the enclosed quarters of the command module for months or even years at a time. Certainly, we will see structures such as centrifuges implemented into spacecraft design, as to allow further exploration of the solar system, while protecting the health of the crew. Radiation shielding will also be an issue worth looking at; either natural, or the radiation emitted by certain propulsion systems.
  7. Oh, I wasn\'t talking about the physics of the game\'s framework, or even the technology itself. A political regime with this large an interest in space is impossible.
  8. I remain amused that all of you are treating KSP like a hard-science fiction game, when it is clearly soft sci-fi, possibly even fantasy.
  9. Nah, you should totally do at least two 72-hour sessions a week. Perfectly safe.
  10. Oh, I\'m pretty sure they wouldn\'t care. The designs our team presented were never approved due to budget cuts and whatnot, so I\'d be surprised if they even know they exist. That said, the design can be pretty flexible. There are just a few things that need to be taken into account when talking about Helium-3 mining, specifically. 1) You don\'t need to dig deep. 70% of the He3 resides in the top 4 inches of regolith dust. The most efficient design would be a sort of scoop/trough design that would plow around the surface and collect the 'dust.' 2) Unless you want a small reactor on-board, you\'ll need a large solar collector to generate the heat energy necessary to process the regolith and separate the He3 from the other elements. 3) This almost goes without saying, but remember that He3 is a gas, so you\'ll need tanks to store it until you can transfer it to a transport/storage vehicle. 4) Don\'t forget about the other elements found in regolith! Once processed, you can extract Oxygen, Aluminum and trace amounts of Hydrogen from the rock. (A general outline of a lunar resource development lander)
  11. If anyone\'s interested, I did a project in collaboration with NASA a few months ago that was centered around lunar He-3 resource development., I could post a few of the design concepts that were included in the report.
  12. Nova, I am continually impressed with the realism and creativity you display in your mods. I\'m curious, though. What inspired you to choose the design that you did? Any reading material/media/etc.?
  13. Hey, I\'m probably pretty late to this party, but do you plan on doing any kind of landing gear/further parts for the Durgun vehicle? You\'re a very talented designer, and I can see alot of potential for this parts pack.
  14. The day I see a 'warp drive' in the parts menu is the day I close down my KSP window for good. [/opinion, man] Instead, I would be delighted to see realism-based future technologies implemented, such as Antimatter/Photon Sails: Time compression has already been added, so even the furthest solar-systems should be within reach for an intrepid space explorer.
  15. Jesus Christ. It\'s as if every mission from Mercury through A Moon Base was combined into one launch... Respect.
  16. Hey Look! I\'m Another Commenter! I already presented this idea in another thread, but since there is talk about asteroids and other 'small' objects, I thought I might put my idea out there: A small, soviet-inspired, abandoned space station, in orbit around one of the outer planets. It could mostly be an 'easter-egg' sort of thing. Once docking is implemented, it could be an interesting 'recon/intel' type mission.
  17. I really like the service module. Will you be releasing it as a separate mod part for the primary game?
  18. There a few things I would like to see implemented into KSP in the future. One of them being a monolith orbiting Juturn, perhaps? Arthur C. Clarke's 2001: A Space Odyssey was an inspiration to an entire generation of IRL spacecraft engineers, technicians, scientists and astronauts. It seems fitting to pay a small homage to the piece of fiction, while acting as an interesting 'easter egg' as well.
  19. I'm not sure if it was intentional or not, but the design (the shuttle atop a booster) is very reminiscent of the 1954 von Braun prototype/concept. I like that. I like that alot.
