How hard is it really? 1 - For NEW mods (those that were specifically updated for 0.20), put the entire mod folder in GameData, next to the Squad folder. 2 - For LEGACY mods (the ones that you downloaded for previous versions), leave them in the same folders as they used to be. Don't change anything. a - If you are having problems with attachment nodes, update the cfg files and add "scale = 1". As a user, you should not have to worry about adding "Part { }" or moving existing mods around or editing configs, unless you are having attachment node problems.

Dragon Rider Capsule [0.23 (2/14/14)
Nibb31 replied to CardBoardBoxProcessor's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
To fix the nose cone issue, edit the CFG file and replace "module = part" with "module = Part". It looks like 0.20 is picky with upper/lower case. To fix the solar panel covers issue (and any other attachment node problems in 0.20), add the line "scale = 1" to all of the CFG files. My Dragon is heavily modded with cfg file edits, but it works perfectly. After resizing it to 2.5m ("rescaleFactor = 1"), this is what it looks like on top of the fully reusable Laztek Falcon 9: -
[0.22.X] BobCat ind. Historical spacecraft thread
Nibb31 replied to BobCat's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
No problem here. Are you sure you didn't mount the female probe/drogue the wrong way round? The little antenna has to be pointed outwards. -
I love the idea. The only problem I have with the Fustek modules is that the surface attachments are too deep, so the CBM ports are too recessed. This makes docking 2 modules sideways impossible. I love your Cupola, but I would really like a smaller one, the diameter of a CBM port like the real thing. This would allow to fit one into the CBM recesses when they are not used. Besides, there is already a stock 2.5m Cupola now.

how to impport mods to 0.20
Nibb31 replied to b0bby's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
You don't need to do that. Just put your old mods in the Parts, Plugins, and Internals folders where they used to be. The new method is only for new mods. -
This is the reason I don't want to use the Steam version. With the KSP Store version, you can just download into a different folder a copy over your files as you go along.

How would you improve the Shuttle design?
Nibb31 replied to Epic DaVinci's topic in Science & Spaceflight
What for? This would add at least 5 tons to the airframe structure. Why do you need air-breathing engines if you're putting it on top of a rocket? Retractable engines would add complexity and mass. Again, at least 5 more tons. What? The Shuttle used APAS, not CBM and it wasn't retractable. What for? Just to carry the extra mass you have just added? Gain 5 tons. Your thin folding wings fall off during reentry. Game Over. What used materials? What rare materials? What waste? What for? Add 15 tons of extra mass. Add 20 tons of extra mass. Add 100 tons of extra mass. Your redesigned orbiter now weighs 250 tons with no payload and can't take off. Thanks for playing. -
Couple of questions on orbital mechanics
Nibb31 replied to dronkit's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
The "figure 8" is just an illustration as if the Moon wasn't moving. The Moon moves along it's own orbit, so the start of the "8" would point in front of the Moon, and the return would be somewhere else althogether, so depending on how long you loitered in lunar orbit, it wouldn't look like an 8 at all. -
Keeping probe pointing at the surface

MechJeb and set Smart ASS to Prograde. However, KSP always puts spacecraft in some random attitude when you reload from the Tracking Center. -

How would you improve the Shuttle design?
Nibb31 replied to Epic DaVinci's topic in Science & Spaceflight
True, but based on the technology that is available to us now, chemical rockets are still the only way we can get to orbit. The question was "how would you improve the shuttle design", implying with current technology, not "what science fiction spacecraft will replace the shuttle design in 50 years". Skylon, scramjets and dilithium warp drives are not available yet, and might never turn out to be practical. We don't know, so we can't rely on them today. -

Reusing material doesn't save you any money when the bulk of the cost in spaceflight is highly skilled engineering manpower. If you want to save money, you need to reduce the engineering costs. One way of doing that is by mass producing expendable boosters.
