  1. I like DF because you get to know the Dwarfs as characters, each one with their merits and flaws and you find yourself making up stories about them. When they're not goofing off and getting drunk. Which is normal for them. If you plan to play DF may I suggest using the Lazy Pack? You can use tiles to replace the ASCII. Easier on the eyes.
  2. Both. Look at and even download the other designs to peek at. Then submit yours here. It may seem like a long thread and you may think of sending your design via email. But I can bet his mail box is spammed to the point of exploding.
  3. I just had a horrible thought. I am lucky he just wants stock..if these ships had to have life support mods...*shiver* Or..or we had to build within or under a certain price range. How many of these designs would make it?
  4. No, it is Space Trucker...that is a typo! I may change the design in the future - when the next updates come the Trucker may use those areas for new equipment - detectors or what not.
  5. A 'Colony' needs to have one Kerbal, be able to construct ships, and fuel them when need be. HMM..the wording did not say 'produce fuel and parts on the spot' did it? The wording DOES allow for a orbital 'Colony' as long as it can be supplied with parts and fuel. I don't think anybody has used a Launch Pad in space, have they? I would say the rules allows for Orbital Colonies - but I would say only one per Planet and Moon. Otherwise you would just have a bunch of 'Colonies' around Kerbin. A Orbital 'Colony' would be worth 50 Points, just like the gravity locked ones, 5 Points Extra for every Kerbin after the First. Good question. Now we have Spacers! Sorry, old sci-fi term. Edit - Yes, I saw the orbital con mod link but wonder - don't you need access to KSC to work it? Just like I wonder can the Launchpad mod work without a planet to be on?
  6. I guess people could adjust the challenge to 2 or 3 years if they wish, while keeping the KSC closure at Day 200, if they plan to use it as a Let's Play/Role Play. Jool can be a problem - even using a ramjet (I tried) or special sci-fi engines* it can take a long time to get to it. Launch windows are launch windows. * there is a Warp Engine mod** out there but even it requires special units to work and would cause as many headaches as just trying to push tons of resources and Kerbins into space. ** lots of power is needed to run it, requiring anti-matter, which takes a special unit to produce in atmosphere....so on, so on..
  7. Space Trucker MK I (Available in the Spaceship Exchange along with the MK II) Now, I have never been good at reusable space craft so I have decided that I should focus on making simple and effective space craft that can carry cargo while they don't kill the pilot. But I did make a few ships that had chutes attached to them JUST in case. Wishing to test one I put it in orbit and then told it to land again (I use MechJeb 2). I figured that the command pod was the weak point. Once the chutes opened it would rip away from the rest of the ship and allow the pilot to land safety. I noticed a few problems right away. Well, not problems as much as a interesting fact. I seemed to be slowing down. Even before the chutes came out. Why am I going so slowly...? Maybe as the ship is kind of small and not full of fuel... Then the engines started to brake and I thought the chutes may be ripped off. But nope, it just seemed to help it slow even more. At this point I realize my knowledge of KSP science is not as sound as I thought. Then I realized it was going to land... It finally lost the chutes... And landed safety. I mean this is great if I ever play career mode and have to worry about cost - recovering and reusing ships would be a good tactic. But, really, can somebody tell me what I did right by accident?
  8. WOW Mr. Tegu. Either you need to make a slightly bigger carrier or make smaller carrier fighters. I tried to make a mini-fighter and found, to my horror, I did not know how to get it into space - it was too small.
  9. Every time I visit the one on the National Mall I make sure to touch the moon rock. Every since I was a kid I always touch it. Going to the Moon is kind of what really added fuel to the fire of going out into space...did not start it...but still got it going.
  10. Nobody has seemed to mention 'The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress' or 'Have Spacesuit Will Travel' by Heinlein. Also, I think fans of KSP would also enjoy 'The Rocket Company' by Patrick J. G. Stiennon and David M. Hoerr. May I also suggest the webcomic 'Quantum Vibe' by Scott Bieser (think space opera meets hard sci-fi meets libertarian ideas plus a touch of Doctor Who) The movies-turned-into novels 'Outland' by Alan Dean Foster and 'Moon Zero Two' adapted by John Burke are, in some ways, better than the movies.
  11. Where is the next KSP Naval video? Is it up yet?
  12. Wonderful! That was fast too. Also looks very well balanced - likely could blast that into orbit and land it on the Mun if need be. Like the name too - Dominator - a name from the Second Doctor Who! Does it come in pink for the ladies?
  13. True. In fact, early in the SpiritWolf/Hanland thread, I noticed a few mobile missile launchers that could send missiles into orbit. So it is possible we may see such weapons in the future.
  14. It has come to our attention at Valley Inc. that with the upcoming war between SpiritWolf and Hanland there is a chance that the conflict could spread out into the general solar system. As many of the companies work and live on the home planet that suggests there will very likely be fighting on Kerbin itself. It is felt that our employees, and the men fighting on the fronts, will do a better job if they felt their families and loved ones where protected in such harsh times. Therefore Valley Inc. would like to sub-contact another company or business to design a Fallout/Bomb Shelter Recreational Vehicle. It should be all shock, be able to hold a family of four, be armored against small weapons fire, be able to relocate when needed, be unarmed, and should be able to tap into the net to check on the sports news for the Father, download cartoons for the kids, and find recipes for the little Wife. It should also be designed to handle fallout if there is an atomic war, the hull should be strong enough to survive an attack by giant mutant crabs who would be the result of such war, and have also have a fool-proof medical unit to deal with radioactive related illnesses. The RV should have enough food and power for a week. Kerbin science has shown that after a week fallout becomes harmless, giant mutant crabs go back to the ocean out of loneliness, and rain had cleaned the soil. The special RV should be within the price range of the common man (or at least those who have good paying jobs) and have a cute name (for the female drivers). Also it should come in at least three colors. Please submit any designs to this thread for review. And feel proud that by doing so you insure the future of Kerbalkind!
  15. I would offer to try but I use MechJeb to fly. Still, that would show if the equipment and fuel was enough to get it to Jool. I would just have to send a small drone with MechJeb 2 attached to attach to the station itself and tell it to go to Jool.
  16. Not even that much - part of that is the last stage of the Launcher. When I make fighters they never use up all of the Launcher's fuel and the last part ends up as a orbital booster.
  17. If the maps in the game did not pinpoint every ship, probe and piece of floating junk in the system the idea of trying to hide by using planets, moons, and distance might work inside the game. Heck, I sometimes can't even see my own ships on the dark side of planets - I don't put lights on my military craft. Course, that would also make it hard to aim. And also dangerous to change orbits after the battle has been engaged - the chances of slamming into debris would increase with every exchange of fire. You would even need scouts and fighters to expand your eyes to see where everything was. Maybe we need a mod that removes tracking information?
  18. How about boating around Kerbin with nothing but a solar powered boat? You could make it another charity drive. http://grist.org/list/this-boat-circled-the-globe-on-sun-power-alone/ Don't have to worry about mountains at sea. Edit : OK, maybe not around the whole planet but make a boat powered by solar panels only would be cool.
  19. *Looks up at the Mun* "AGGGHH! I'm blind! Blind!"
  20. Class: Orbital Interceptor AKA "Ganymede" Company: Valley Inc. Allied With: Hanland https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BzWVddevUqx5cGJjYmtNaG9ESEE/edit?usp=sharing Valley Inc. decided, for its next project, to develop a small quick response fighter that could be launched from the surface of Kerbin and right into orbit with no fuss or muss. And very little fuel too! And the tiny Orbital Interceptor the 'Ganymede' was born! A small craft with a pair of launchers and a wing design that makes it look cool AND protects it from light weapon's fire, it will be the center piece of any military space port and the talk of the town! Another weapon of modern science brought to you by Valley Inc. The same people who invented the Space Recycled Sandwich and Space Night Light. In future we plan to continue to develop, test, and improve on our products for our Hanland allies. Everybody is working hard, 24 hours a day, in our publishing departments, our space centers, and our factory floors to bring us to a bright and tax-free future! Working hard to develop ways to do more with less and bring the savings to YOU! To the FUTURE!
  21. I assume you mean its job of being cheaper (which it was not) to allow more missions into space? To be honest, I don't think much would have changed. What with the changes every four or eight years of our head of state, NASA being controlled by a government more worried about money and being reelected, and such...no, I doubt we would have seen much more than what we have right now on the plate.
  22. I think boats and ground craft would have to use what fuel they can carry. After all, if you can't get them to planet-side with enough fuel and/or ammo to function then you either should 1. find out how to do so by redesigning them or their method of landing or 2. not bother at all. Now Eve is a problem, to be honest, not like dropping a APC onto the Mun. Chutes may help a little - I have dropped floating stations on Eve but they were meant to stay in one place and not move about. To be honest, outside some of the moons, and maybe Kerbin, I don't see a lot of ground combat happening.
  23. But mail has, in itself, come to mean chain armor in English - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mail_(armour) - for example mail gloves mean chain gloves now. Either way, you may wish to think of a new title like....hmmmmm...Holy Zokesian Empire? Or has Holy been overused?
  24. Hmmmm...but I thought Imperial meant Empire? It is like when everybody says chain mail armor. Chain and mail mean the same thing when dealing with armor.
  25. And all good wars need music, space rations, and good posters!
