  1. I slapped a 9x on the bottom of a Jumbo, could only get 8 engines around the outside but couldn't put one in the center. Also when I try to launch, the engines don't have fuel - in spite of the part being crossfeed capable. Do I need to run fuel lines? and how am I going to do that with this kind of setup?
  2. If by "many", you mean "two", then perhaps you have a point. Aside from the United States and Russia, no other nation has independently put astronauts or stations into space. Every astronaut of another nation has gotten into space on an American or Russian flight. So it's still a pretty big accomplishment for China.
  3. I agree. It's quite an accomplishment. Independently, they've established a space program with goals and they are progressing. It may seem small compared to grandiose accomplishments like landing on the Moon or building the ISS, but these are pretty big steps and rapid progress for a nation that didn't have a space program to speak of until recently. I don't see why some people feel a need to make it a political issue; I simply admire the accomplishment. I actually just picked up and built a Tiangong-1 model today. I have had a fondness for little space labs ever since Skylab when I was a kid. I came across this thread because I was thinking of building one in the game.
  4. Great, that's how I expected it would work. Thank you for your answer and for a nifty rocket!
  5. Also, gravity isn't a constant at any altitude around any celestial body. Varying planetary density in different regions results in a slight change in gravity - meaning the orbital speed increases or decreases as it passes over these areas. So you can see that this will eventually, albeit slowly, influence an orbit.
  6. In that case, move that GameData folder to your top-level KSP directory (essentially copying the contents of its GameData folder over to yours). If you do thios properly, you should see a folder in your GameData folder called "Crew Manifest". If you do it as Tex advised, it still won't work.
  7. In that case, I will check out the Beta on the first page. Currently I'm using an NP Thor lander and that works nicely but isn't very authentic. Let's see how this one does.
  8. Thanks. I hadn't realized it got updated yet again since I installed it yesterday. The version I have (pretty sure it's .21) doesn't have that feature. I'll install the 2.2 now. Got it sorted - Duna looks pretty nice with a Martian texture.
  9. Thanks. I understand that, but the more important concern is an accurate LEM that would actually fit inside a 3.75m cylinder - as it did on the Saturn rocket.
  10. Usually, that's the case. Not always so, especially for larger designs which more commonly use these ports. I've seen rockets that take up the entire VAB.
  11. Awesome! I hope it fits inside a standard 3.75m fairing - I've had a hell of a time trying to find (or build) a proper-looking LEM that doesn't clip a standard fairing or result in a bulging procedural fairing. It's really the piece-de-resistance for me.
  12. Fortunately, Mimas has that secondary thermal exhaust port, (not) directly below the main port.
  13. Johnno, that's all well and good when placed on an end like that, but not so much when placed on a surface.
  14. Usually, when you say "I installed it properly but it's not working," that's a cue that you haven't installed it properly. Yours is a commonly encountered mistake, answered in the first post.
  15. Thanks. So, does it need to be re-formatted at all, and how do I go about putting that in the game? I'm sure I need to create a folder called "Duna" in Textures/Planets, but not sure if the file needs a particular name and thus, also what to put in the texture list.
  16. It's due to a lack of breathable oxygen in Eve's atmosphere. If you lacked oxygen to breathe, you'd be purple, too.
  17. Did you steal that off the top of a Mexican restaurant? I think the best way to make it clear is to make a note on the side that should face the hull - or make both of those surfaces so distinctly different that it's clear. As for edge-on, others have explained why an arrow is still ambiguous.
  18. We have a "Death-Star" in game. It is called the MÜN. Look at that giant crater in the middle of the northern hemisphere, drive down the equatorial trench, and then tell me that's not exactly what the designers had in mind. All these new craters in 0.21 are just there to camouflage it's real purpose. That's no Mün... that's a battle station!
  19. You need five posts to unlock your sig, avatar, etc. So a response to this answer ought to do it for you. Welcome to the forums, and Fair Skies!
  20. I did finally assemble a lander that will fit in the payload bay without clipping. I don't know if I can make it to the Mun or Minmus with this but I was challenged by the assembly of a lander that would fit. I did have a question about the fuel cell: It says it requires "Fuel Cell Fuel" but I have no idea what generates that resource.
  21. That looks gorgeous! Can you share the texture? Looks even nicer than before!
  22. I don't yet use Kethane, but based on everything you've done, it sounds like you either already have the infrastructure or know how to set it up. Change up your mods - try the game from a different angle! There's too much to do to possibly say you've "done it all".
  23. Well, that's handy even for a player to know! I can't count the number of times I've loaded the game and realized there was something I'd wanted to change or adjust. With a lot of mods, that's a 10-minute proposition sometimes.
  24. The numbers don't have to be the same - eccentricity is what matters. If you have an orbit that's 100km altitude, that's a circle that's 1400km across (Kerbal has a radius of 600km, according to the KSP wiki). Even if the periapsis is 98.6km and the apoapsis is 101.4 km, that's still essentially a perfect circle for orbital purposes, as each is only one tenth of a percent off nominal. Yes, you can get it closer - an exceptional pilot or MJ user could do so. But there's not much reason to seek a "perfect" orbit. Even real spacecraft seldom do so.
  25. I find beauty in odd places. For instance, the fairings of a Saturn rocket blossoming away when the CSM decouples: or the first time I launched a Dragon Rider, not realizing there was a lander in the nosecone. I was on my way to my space station, so I had to get it off the docking port. But the picture just hit me. Sad, funny, and beautiful...
