  1. But that makes an aspect of the game completely worthless. Basically a waste of time. However it's fixable within the configuration file. 1% of it's current is a pretty good fix for normal mode. It keeps you from unlocking everything in 3 flights. and stretches it out to about 40. The mid game missions still pay out a good bit of science, even scaled at 1% .. If you scale the science to funds ratio to 1 to 1000$, it makes up for it. Then you can sell your science for a decent amount when you don't need it anymore to still have that sandbox feel at endgame. Seems to be working great so far after 2 days of play.. I still have over 1/2 the tree unlocked, but it wasn't so fast that it felt like a cheat. I'm comfortable at the current rate I've set it to. Of-course this is all in how you like to play the game. If your the sandbox type, you can leave it at it's norm and unlock everything almost instantly. I suppose tuning it may be more for the realism players, like myself.
  2. Could you iterate on this a bit? What exactly are you asking can be converted? If you're asking if I can scale it back more.. yes.. Already done.
  3. Man that is a hard-core start! lol .... I like it
  4. OK.. after a Day of play, I've found that the mid game missions still just DUMP science all over you.. So I scaled it back another decimal point.. so 1% of original.. At 10% it still gives you 500 science on mid game missions. So I dropped it down again and took those funds conversions to 50 science.. So early game, it's very low output mid game it gives 50 per mission, + whatever you collect on your own.. So it seems pretty good there. Mind you this is on normal mode and my conversion is 50% of funds. Hard mode would be extremely hard at 1%. Although still not impossible. If you were looking for realism in science investments, I'd say that 1% would probably about nail it on hard mode.
  5. That makes perfect sense.. Add a feature in the game, and make it so broken that a person who actually want's to play a career can't use it.. So basically the whole administration building was a waste of time. OR you can simply change the CFG and make it not broken, and a decent feature. Change it to 10% .. then its not an in-game cheat anymore. I like the idea of having an administrative perk. However, It shouldn't speed up progression so much that you might as well play sandbox. WELCOME TO THE NEW MODE! CAREER-BOX!
  6. There is some merit to this, but you have to keep in mind that there is Sandbox.. pretty much jump in and go It's what it's there for..(science not so much). The career path should present a challenge, which it lacks as it currently stands... However, a few of us have modified the CFG file to 10% of the current.. seems pretty solid. I expect beta will be somewhere along those lines.. Yes, we know its just alpha. But it doesn't mean it shouldn't be a challenge for those who are looking for one. Especially when all it requires to make it balanced is to add two 0's in the cfg! Before altering it, I unlocked the whole tree in 3 flights! (edit) actually as it stands, It's harder to unlock things in Science mode than career.. something wrong there!
  7. both good ideas, I think I'll mix them up a bit and see how it works out. Lethal, How long have you had it set up that way? Does it balance out well? Skyrender, I really don't use the others "Yet" I suppose I will late game though. I may just do the same.
  8. Honestly, It depends on the persona of the person.. If they are the strict FPS gamer, they probably aren't going to like having to learn orbital mechanics etc. Some people like to just pick up a controller and go without having to learn the ins and outs of periapsis and apoapsis etc. I have to say KSp is about exploration, a sense of adventure, and a creative mind. If they don't have that, then they really have no hook.
  9. Definitely the administrative revamp. Funds to science is WAAAY too overpowered. I've actually posted a fix to this, until it comes out, here ---> http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/100134-How-to-fix-overpowered-Admin-cash-to-science Other than that, I'd like to see some ultimate goal put in.. I know it's wishful thinking at this point, but we really need something like a visitable blackhole that is far away, or actual reasons to build a base somewhere. perhaps the ability to find new planets would be nice.. build a space telescope and search for new small planetary bodies, or even comets.
  10. After a few hours of play, It's much better, but not "perfect", anyone else tried this?
  11. You're missing the point. There is no incremental increase. It's more like BAM! MAX TREE! There is nothing to look forward to in that department anymore. anyway, I've found what was mentioned earlier in setting it to what I deem is "correct/better" Ill paste it here. 1: go into your KSP folder and locate the strategies folder. 2: open strategies folder and edit strategies CFG (open with notepad or something similar) 3: Find this strategy: name = OutsourcedResearchCfg 4: Find these lines under it (highlighted in blue): ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- name = OutsourcedResearchCfg title = Outsourced R&D desc = Why do all the data-crunching ourselves when we can contract external research labs to help us process the data we receive. These services aren't exactly cheap, but their R&D facilities are very impressive. department = Science icon = Squad/Strategies/Icons/OutsourcedResearch groupTag = Basic,C minLeastDuration = 60 maxLeastDuration = 100 minLongestDuration = 1200 maxLongestDuration = 1600 requiredReputationMin = -500 requiredReputationMax = 750 initialCostFundsMin = 8150.0 initialCostFundsMax = 170000.0 initialCostReputation = 0.0 initialCostScience = 0.0 hasFactorSlider = True factorSliderDefault = 0.05 factorSliderSteps = 20 EFFECT { name = CurrencyConverter input = Funds output = Science minShare = 0.0 maxShare = 1.0 minRate = 0.027778 maxRate = 0.0347 // ignore income from recovery, because funds recovered were ours to begin with, therefore not income AffectReasons = ContractReward, ContractAdvance effectDescription = Income ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5: Change those lines by 1 decimal point (or more if you want it ridiculously hard) So minRate = 0.027778 Would become minRate = 0.0027778 maxRate = 0.0347 Would become maxRate = 0.00347 6: close and save.. boot Ksp. (Note): I did this without already having any Administrative perks active in game. If you do, I'd shut them off before changing this (just in case)) This will change the amount you are allowed to get per mission to 10% of what it normally is. Which seems pretty balanced to me in my game. Have fun guys! PS: Im not responsible for anything you mess up if you do this and change the wrong stuff.. This is all on you.
  12. If you are not playing on hard, Go get yourself some high paying missions, go to the administration building and turn on the conversions for rep to science, and cash to science. Do those few high paying missions, Unlock everything. You can generally go to the moon on your third flight this way, which generally unlocks everything.
  13. Look at the shadow on the top right of the photo and compare the two between samples. See what I mean? Its the change of light over a ridge. They are parking it right next to a slope. Good idea? Dunno! lol
  14. The discussion under the photo.. I gotta say.. it's a shadow to me. 5 minute difference between shots, and its still there, and getting darker.. same shape. That's no dust plume, That is definitely a ridge. She needs a pair of specs!
  15. I gotta say.. Launching something years in advance, and having it end up within 100 meters of its target is always a success in my eyes.. lol.. Kudos to the physicists/scientists in control of navigation set-up.
  16. I recently posted on how OP the cash to science ratio is.. So I went looking around in the game and figured out how to fix it.. 17. Well, yeah.. Ofcourse I try to unlock as quickly as possible so I can get to the outer planets.. However, as I said, even on hard, it was way to simple. I'm glad to hear they are rebalancing. Honestly one of the funnest parts of the game is unlocking new tech so you can do more stuff, It just came WAY too quickly.. I expected a slight boost to science, but what I got was an overpowered, semi-drunken, Monster Cahooned, kick to the science region. lol
  18. Thank god... I turned it on did a few flights, ulocked everything and kind of went 'nooooooooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO' (Vaders voice) lol
  19. Downloaded KSP, had coffee, breakfast, came back and fired it up.. Unlocked the whole tech tree in 3 flights.. *roll credits* Game over. Well that was fun... NOT!! either fix the money to science ratio, and if your not going to do that then Honestly what this game needs is some SERIOUSLY overpriced endgame parts. That would balance it out. Something like Oh.. I dunno.. SPACE-STATION PARTS THAT HAVE MEANING. Final piece being something that allows you to VISIT A BLACK HOLE. Yeah.. I know.. unrealistic, but its a game. How about some tech that lets you get through the atmosphere of jool and land on it (somehow) we need SOMETHING to fix this. as of right now, It's REALLY boring. If you want to play and have fun, I'd suggest playing science instead of career. It takes away all the administration and mundane contracts. Makes it like an actual game again. Honestly, the career should have been based on the science collection. Goto the north pole and get a sample, or EVA over kerbin. NO BONUS SCIENCE. Administration should have been a building that dealt primarily with training your kerbals for their added perks.. The whole Career system is completely broken right now. Unless you're looking for sandbox with contracts... well.. there are mods for that. no sense in ruining the game to cater to the casual player.. even on hard, it's ridiculously simple.

  21. I redownloaded KSP this morning... drank some coffee, ate breakfast, came back, fired it up and unlocked everything in 3 flights. *Roll credits*. Game over. Well, that was fun.. NOT.
  22. I think there should be not just a *science* requirement. it should also have a research bubble that fills slowly. You pay the science required, then depending on your researchers *stupidity* and their pay rate, the bubbles fill at a certain rate. And it should be 1 part at a time. lower costs requiring lower research time. As of right now, I just don't see the point of career AT ALL.
  23. Something definitely needs done.. I started a new career today, and with the new administration building *perks* I unlocked everything in about 2 hours. REdiculously easy. Somethign HAS to be done about it, or it's pointless to even play career mode.
  24. Today I redownloaded KSP, started a new career to check the new stuff out and realized that the administration building makes career mode pointless. I unlocked everything in about 2 hours.
