  1. That should answer your question. Although not mentioned, you do not get the points for return.
  2. Sorry, I didn't take those screenshots with making a challenge later in mind. I just put that in. Very soon I will do a mission for this challenge.
  3. thanks for the advice, making the changes now. Sorry for any inaccuracies, this is my first challenge.
  4. Welcome to the Heavyweight Challenge! In this challenge the goal is to get the largest weight you can from Kerbin, to another celestial body and back in one piece. Rules Your mass is the mass you return to Kerbin's surface. The whole of the mass you return to Kerbin must get in an encounter or orbit with your celestial body. The whole of the mass you return to Kerbin must land on the celestial body if you decide to land. If only part of what returns landed on the celestial body, then you can do the points calculations for each part of the ship separately. No aerobraking except on Kerbin return You cannot simply send just a Kerbal with the RCS pack to the surface of Minmus and back. You do not get the points for getting in orbit round Kerbin. Points accumulate (so you get 1710 points if you land on the mun, 860 + 210 + 640). Your craft must make it back to Kerbin. If you feel any of the points are unrepresentative of the difficulty of the task, please tell me in a post and I will edit it. Point System Your points are determined by the Delta-V you used on the mission. Refer to this map: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/25360-Delta-V-map To get your score follow the line you took and add up the numbers along the way. Read the information on the post for more info. To get your final score you multiply all the points you got from above by the weight of your craft safely returned to Kerbin in one piece. My Attempt I was unable to get good screenshots of my craft so I will be doing the mission again and will post my entry soon. Leaderboard: 1st : 2nd : 3rd : 4th : 5th :
  5. Hello, I was finding the Delta-V of a section of a craft I made. Please can you confirm my calculation as this is my first delta-v calculation: (rockomax poodle engine, my weights are correct for the craft) DeltaV = (9.81*Isp)*(in(Mfuelled/Mempty)) DeltaV = (9.81*390)*(in(20.97 / 12.97)) DeltaV = 3825.9 * (in(1.61680802)) DeltaV = 3825.9 * 0.48045384751060720536776041863122 DeltaV = 1838.16838 Thanks for all responses
  6. How would I calculate the amount of delta v an engine can provide with 100 units (an flt-100 tank) of fuel? Thanks
  7. Thanks, and thanks to everyone else too. How would i accept this as the answer and label the thread as answered?
  8. Hello, I was reading about the engines in the game and noticed that they all, (obviously) use 0.9 liquidfuel and 1.1 oxidiser as their fuel ratio. And they all have different thrusts, my queries are this: Does the thrust of an engine correspond to how much acceleration it offers in m/s(^2) ? How would I be able to calculate the speed of fuel depletion of an engine at full thrust ? What are ISPs of an engine? Thanks for all answers
  9. Hey, I just learnt the math of basic orbiting and I wanted to ask how much delta-v would be needed to take 1 unit of mass (kg or tonne) to a height of 100km above Kerbin's surface. I am unable to calculate the effects of gravity and drag on my craft. If I can find that out then I can calculate how much delta-v is needed to put a ship into oribt around kerbin. If you could post the figure in m/s needed for 1kg or 1000kg to rise straight up to 100km above ground. Thanks
  10. Hey, don't stress, after about a month on the demo i was able to get to the mun, i had no idea how to get back though. Do what hobbsyoyo said and also remember, when you launch back up and get into orbit around the mun, when you are going to burn for kerbin transfer all you do is burn prograde when you are in between the mun and kerbin, saves a lot of fuel from burning later. Just remember "the earlier you burn, the less you burn".
  11. Aboard my space station, with only highly explosive fuel for company... My jeb has gone through some great things, he went solo to the mun and back, and solo to minmus and back. Now he is spending his "vacation" doing research aboard the KSS Redemption. I'm planning to send some real supplies up along with a friend soon, but for now he is eating oxidiser.
  12. My best moment would be when i first used aerobraking. After having (in sandbox mode) never brought a flight back from having left kerbin, it was rather pleasing for me to see my mun lander just glide in there. As I am considering a career in astrophysics i found it fascinating
  13. Cool missiles there. Really keeping a high standard of detail in all your ships!
  14. sure, Ill put it on the main post right now EDIT: Link is at the bottom of my main post
  15. The Phoenix 2000 Turbo was produced by Phoenix Industrial as a High Speed Agile Aircraft. It is short range craft which has the best agility of almost all craft you will find. With its Custom built dual engines fitted with a patented oxidisation system. Also equipped with a state of the art emergency evacuation system. Here is the Craft after having successfully landed at the island runway, all intact and the landing was extremely easy. Finally Here is the emergency system in action. 16. hey please could you tell me how to delete my thread?
  17. This is the page for the KSS Ares Space Station By The Rocketry Company Phoenix Industrial. Please visit my page via my signature to check out my other crafts. The KSS Ares: This is the KSS Ares with its 2 base modules here. This is it in its base residential form More Modules Will Be Added with scientific equiptment. The KSS Ares has had its secondary power module added with 2 gigantor arrays and a full flt tank! So now there is fuel up there too! Scientific equiptment has also been added so I shall begin to add fuel to the station. Please subscribe to see other updates to this craft.
  18. I suppose I'll move it there now, thanks for clearing it up for me
  19. I would've thought that mission report would be for, say, missions to the mun and back, you know, missions which terminate at some points? Am I mistaken?
  20. This is the Eclipse Deep Space Probe By Phoenix Industrial (link in signature) is a probe designed by the top rocketry organisation on Kerbin. Made for the mapping of nearby celestial bodies and the void beyond the solar system. Eclipse Deep Space Probe: The Eclipse Deep Space Probe Project was meant to map out some of the celestial bodies further than the Mun such as Minmus and Duna and also to explore the void beyond the existent solar system. Here is the probe (MK3) with its 2nd last and last stages while in orbit around Duna. I had half the flt-400 tank and 4 flt-100 tanks still available, thus showing the further capabilities of the craft. Now here is the final stage. Fitted with the latest junk from a scientists garage sale, I present, the Eclipse MK3 Deep Space Probe in its final stage! Please Subscribe for more updates on this craft.

  22. I like the mental image I get of your crafts and what's happening, but in at least the last half of your pictures, I can't see what is happening in the pic or what is even there. I would have recommended doing it in day.
  23. I always just thought of the tallest one as Mount prime. And the range as the Primal mountain range.
  24. Hey, I have an entry. Nothing as fast as the guy in the video, I used a traditional rocket I set off Kerbin towards the Mun. Craft Name: Solstice 1.25 {Phoenix Industrial} Here Is the Screenshot of my Arrival on the Moon With Samoly Kerman. Time Taken - 07:56:13 (7hrs, 56min and 13 seconds) Now Here Is The Craft having landed back at Kerbin, everything still intact. Time Taken - 1:07:51:54 (1 day, 7hrs, 51min and 54 seconds) First entry! So I get to be 1st on the leaderboard for a while. It was a pretty simple craft, no rcs really, just some rockets and aero parts. My Suggestion for anyone doing it after reading my post is by creating a second-last stage which would stay in orbit round the mun and the lander could undock and land, then rendesvous and dock and the second-last stage could probably thrust you back to kerbin quicker.
