Engineer seems to not be at all friendly with .23 unfortunately. Screaming at it did not fix it. -

I tried playing career mode for about 10 minutes before I fixed Kerbal Engineer to be available from the beginning in all of the pods. -
The stock tech tree takes roughly 12,715 science to complete

Making the Kerbal Engineer part available from the beginning of career mode is not difficult if you compare the config files of the Squad part files and the Engineer part files. I think there are two lines to add. I guess it is cheating, but I like numbers. -
Isn't it more fun when it isn't all spelled out for you? Who doesn't enjoy discovery.

Try making a SSPO instead of an SSTO. -

Either blast the rocket on the docked ship wildly until the docking ports break off or perhaps smash another rocket into the docking port area until it's apart.
