I think they're pretty well-balanced, but being able to run time-warp while just running ion engines would be great for some of those longer burns. Then we'd be able to fly brachistochrone transfers between planets instead of just Hohmann transfers (burn your engine until you're halfway there, then turn around and burn the other way to stop).

The Dream / The Epic of Gilgaman Kerman as recorded on clay tablets

This is the best thing created ever. -
"I break for planets."

Attach another extendable ladder at the top and angle it towards the door maybe? Also you could add one of the Rockomax size adapters to give a gradual slope to your ladder.

BABYLON: Derelict - EPIC challenge!
dshuck replied to Tada's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Thanks! I figured as much and installed it in a stock 0.23 install. I'm now in transit for Jool. -
I built a cool ship! ...boom.

Good to know! I'll see if I can get it done for this week's KSP Misadventure. -
BABYLON: Derelict - EPIC challenge!

I've started playing around with it. I'm recording video of my playthrough too. So far, I decided that Elvis needed to land the SSTO spaceplane attached to the Horizon space station (both of which were VERY nicely designed, by the way). Flies very nicely, especially for stock aerodynamics. I'll get to planning my transfer maneuvers soon. EDIT: I would only, of course, publish the playthrough as one of my weekly KSP Misadventures with your permission (after the competition is completed or when the secrets are out or a spoiler warning) to prevent spoiling it for anyone, and I'll PM you about it beforehand. -

This looks like a really cool challenge. I'm going to try it ASAP -
How to successfully lithiobrake?
dshuck replied to Lord_Potato's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Quicksave and try to make sure you land on the ground, not the water. Water in KSP is way more destructive than land for some reason, and I have to remind my friends of this every time I fly a plane that runs out of fuel and miss the runway as I try to circle around to land. -
Hello, world! I'm glad to be back on the KSP forums! My first KSP video, about an awesome mission I flew this weekend to the Mun. I hope to go on a (mis)adventure every week. I've even got a nice microphone I want to try out.

An Orion-inspired capsule, I can get 3 Kerbals to Minmus orbit, perform EVA landings, and return to Kerbin. Or, I can get up to Jebediah Station for crew transfers to it and my 3 IP cruisers, shown about to depart on a joint mission to Vall, Tylo, and Laythe.

The B9 Shuttle looks really good! Also I'm impressed at all the Soyuz replicas. Go pat yourselves on your backs. Without further ado, I present the KSS Kerbalprise (All Stock 0.19). Another Screenshot Another Screenshot I tried to be as accurate to a 1/10 scale of the TOS original as I could. I think it was around 1500 parts and it turned my computer into a slideshow. I think I can safely say we don't yet have the technology to boldy go where no Kerbal has gone before with that many parts yet. EDIT: I hope this is still on-topic with this thread under the category of being a "concept" spacecraft. If not I apologize.

The results of my third voyage in the Midge (the 1st 2 ran out of fuel before orbital insertion). I ran out of oxidizer after I had my PE at 37 km or so, and I finished circularizing on RCS. Even though the RCS is on the bottom of the craft the SAS keeps it exceptionally stable. I should be able to deorbit without much trouble. There's no MechJeb on the craft file by default, and I flew without MJ, as always. EDIT: I like the craft. It's stable during VTOL (although it took a little bit of stabilization at takeoff) and RCS maneuvers, both of which I was unsure of, and it can in fact get to orbit, even if it's tough to do manually. There's a lot of air intakes clipped onto each other which I don't like to do when I build ships, but the craft works and looks nice too. Nicely built craft, and the smallest SSTO I've ever flown.

That looks AWESOME. Trying it out.

How do I make a floating base?
dshuck replied to Benie's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
You could edit the RocketParts resource to be less dense and so not sink, or you could only give the RocketParts hexcans a fraction of a full load. I'm building a floating launchpad on Laythe right now with the Hooligan Labs pad, 8 large RP hexcans, 4 orange tanks, and 4 large RCS tanks. I've got the hexcans holding 20 RocketParts each and the base floats nicely. I put it near the shore because I plan on putting a colony on the ground nearby. It is free floating, not resting on the ground. -
The "no-engined" flyer challenge!

Your plane looks a little silly but that only makes it AWESOME. +1 Reputation. -
The "no-engined" flyer challenge!
dshuck replied to Themohawkninja's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I've got one! I'm using it as a Laythe rover for my mission there. I can get 2 kerbals into the air in the .5 atm pressure above Laythe sea level Craft File: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/9541787/Stuff/SuperGlider.craft I included links to the pictures that prove mass and velocity, instead of adding picture clutter to my post. Mass: 1.85 tons Max Velocity: 227.7 m/s Crew: 2 Kerbals Score: 227.7 * 1.85 * (2+1) = 1263.735 points -
Welcome aboard! I'm new on the forums too, although I've been playing KSP for over a year now. Because the Mun is smaller and closer than Earth's moon, I tend to find that it's easier to simply have an extra stage on your Mun rocket, so you have a stage or two to get up to space, a stage to enter Low Kerbin Orbit around 80 km or so that then transfers you to the Mun, and then your final stage can complete the landing and return to Kerbin. This way you don't have to deal with the difficulties of orbital rendezvous and docking, EVA crew transfers, or building your launch vehicle large enough to carry your heavy lander rockets, the extra crew cabin for landing, and all the heavy RCS fuel that you need for the docking operation (until you get the hang of it, docking will require lots and lots of RCS.) When you're ready to learn rendezvous and docking, I suggest putting up two small one-man capsules with lots of RCS on them (make sure you align the thrusters with the Center of Mass), so that you have plenty of fuel to learn how to adjust your orbit to find a rendezvous, and if you run out of fuel in the first vehicle, you can just switch over to the second and complete the docking.

Long-time player, first-time poster here. My name's Dave, I'm a college student studying Computer Science, and Kerbal Space Program is part of my free time. I started playing just about a year ago back during version 15 when Minmus was a big deal, and, like everyone else who tries this game, fell in love with it. I feel like I know my way around KSP nowadays, as I've built space stations and a munbase, and I've landed and returned manned expeditions from Duna, Dres, Moho (Thanks to an Eve gravity assist), and a few others. I'm always glad to answer questions and give tips to anyone who asks, and I'll be sure to ask questions where I have them! For my first question: Any neat places in the forum you think I should check out? I've got a lively sense of humor and I love to speak publicly. I've thought of taking that and turning it into a KSP-themed Youtube channel. Any suggestions and advice are welcome! Dave
