Overview: Finally built a nice looking rover (my opinion) and i want to use a sky crane to land it on the mun. After several unsuccessful attempts, i decided to come here and see if anyone could offer some pointers. The crafts weight is unknown, i need to reinstall kerbal engineer, so unless theres another way to check im unable to post a weight, but its probably pretty heavy. The Rover: ~ Seats four kerbals with ease, looks roomy too! ~ Two large batteries, two small ones ~ A few generators to keep power up ~ Eight lights (four on the bullbar, 4 on the roof) ~ Two Clamp-o-tron Jr's. One at the back, one of the roof. The back can be hooked up to a trailer, or a lander can with wheels. The top is used for refueling RCS and sky crane attachments, although you could probably add other stuff too. ~ Full set of instruments, Four radio nodes ~ Four RCS tanks, Six RCS nodes ~ Two Parachutes, in case of failed launch or re-entry ~ Tons of solar panels, including 4 larger panels (fold out 1x8(?)) on the sides next to the ladders ~ Six wheels, four in back to support added weight ~ Xenon tanks, for looks as the RCS ones are far to large, and the round ones look strange on it. ~ Back centered mass PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS AN OUTDATED PICTURE AND IS PROVIDED FOR REFERENCE What I Need: Im looking to attach a sky crane to the top, that serves more then just 1 purpose. I want it to also act as a outpost, possibly a radio tower after landing, but still be able to re-attach and get back to orbit (i like to get the most out of everything, less rockets sent, more functionality per module). consider that i want it to have the following: ~ landing legs ~ 2 clamp-o-trons (one on top, one on bottom for attaching the rover. Top for refueling, space train attaching, etc). ~ some solar panels ~ a few radio antennas ~ some RCS ports/fuel. ~ Enough fuel on board to land, possibly to bring back to orbit as well. ~ 2 Parachutes for events of botched launches, re-entries Can anyone help me out? I would love to see some crane screenies, as well as all the advice you can give. Im not looking for people to build it for me, i just want ideas, and pointers for building one that includes everything i listed, such as size/shape and what type of engines/fuel to use.
