The track you listed I feel might be better for when you are in orbit of Jool looking down on all of its moons. The idea you have is absolutely fantastic, if squad doesn't implement this simple thing in one of the next updates I will be severally disappointed in them... Edit/addition: following links on the YouTube video lead me to his song/ music thing "black vortex" that could be very cool to hear near the sun! "Lightless dawn" would also be epic for deep space or a decent through a heavily clouded eve atmosphere.

Well I must say this response is fantastic and I am quite exited to see what the end result is. Features. I would like to see are the ability for things like cylinders and other non wing objects to gain lift when angled and traveling quickly as well as the ability for capsules and whatnot to be able to steer themselves in decent. I do not want to see odd shaped payloads and pancake rockets absolutely fail to work in an accent, though they could be less efficient and less controllable but they still need to be able to get to space. I know these requests are probably a bit conflicting but in the end I have no idea how the FAR code works so I'm just going to give you this data on what I want and don't want even if the requests might not be realistic.

Shame I didn't see this earlier, otherwise I would have joined! I have a number of very effective stock military craft, carriers, fighters, frigates, the works. I'll probably look into modifying them and making them available for this challenge, one of the craft may be a bit hard to get into orbit though, it's kind of huge and can dock a frigate inside of it. I will have to upgrade there fuel stores and booster sizes for the upscaled kerbin, though I'm not certain how much combat will occurs along the way.

Due to the communities recent large number of complaints about the current aerodynamic model I'm hopping squad bumped up the aircraft update up a few notches on their priority list! The update would have a lot to offer with new physics and a ton of parts, new wings and fins, fuselages and engines, cockpits and cargo bays, landing gear and ferings. I think it would be a bit refreshing to get such an update after so many based around career mode, though the update would still add greatly to it. I can't wait till all of this gets added!

So yea, what I'm suggesting is a radial separator that leaves NOTHING on either seperated item. I would find this very useful for probes that I want to mound radially on a craft. What do you think?
-
Basically what I'm suggesting is a device that let's you record 15 or so minutes of your flight actions that can then later be replayed on a probe core and allow the craft to duplicate the others actions( or at least try to, if it isn't the same as the craft that recorded the data "interesting" things may happen! YES, I know automated pilots are on the do not suggest but this is different as you actually have to do the same thing before hand! This could be a thing unlocked late in the tech tree and would be great for people who standardize launch vehicles and, with some work, even a few landers! Actually, it would be very cool if you could add data storage to allow for deep space automated flights and also get the ability to write a program for your probe(as most of the stuff needed for this would already be there). Yea I know flying the craft is half the fun, but for the most part with this system you still get the chance to experience it! You could even fly and record more flights to get the maximum efficiency possible for the launch of your spacecraft! Well, I have no clue where this will go but tell me what you think!!!

I think I get the concept, you build your rocket crudely so it has to be big and thus heavy, and due to the lack of precision it becomes far easier to mass produce them. They wouldn't nessicarly be unreliable ( if the part has problems add more steel) it would just be inefficient and made big to make up for the inefficiency! Is this concept correct?
-
If I'm not selected this will be my exact response: - F@%# this $#!+, I'm building my own spaceship! Hence a kerbal grade space program is born.

So as most of us know that magic boulder is no more. Sadly I never had a chance to visit magic boulder as it had disappeared awhile after i started playing ksp. So basically I'm wondering how you think magic boulder could be re implemented if you even think it should be re added at all! Personally I think that magic boulder should become a asteroid the size of a class A that mysteriously has an absolutely ridiculous mass of about 10,000-40,000 tons that has a similar appearance to the old magic boulder and with strange green light emitting from it. The kerbin system would always generate in orbit of Ike (or maybe even Dres!) and it would be regenerated if the previous one is destroyed. Maybe the devs could add an Easter egg where a kerbal can go up to a crack on the boulder and enter it like a spacecraft, effectively adding magic boulder as a really bizarre capsule! Actually it would be pretty funny if you could fly it around like a spacecraft! Heck the magic boulder could be the key to interstellar travel!! But those are ideas from my ramble, what would you do?

How big are some of the objects out there?
DerpenWolf replied to DerpenWolf's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Well excluding the sun XD! Any interesting objects in weird elliptical orbits that I should know about? -
So how big/massive are some of the objects in our solar system (not including planets or there moons, dwarf planets are fine)? What are some of the largest objects in the Mars-Jupiter asteroid belt (I'm guessing its Ceres), Oort cloud area, and also in just some random weird orbit somewhere else in the solar system? And finally what is the largest non-planet object in our solar system? Just curious! Edit: Excluding the sun as well!

I've suddenly taken a vicious interest in model rocketry.
DerpenWolf replied to Starwhip's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I'm actually looking into making a two stage model rocket that uses a Arduino micro with an accelerometer for staging, I'm probably going to Need to check the local laws first though. -
You know you're a noob in KSP when...
DerpenWolf replied to Science-Recon's topic in KSP1 Discussion
You know your a newt when: - you don't realize ion engines use xenon gas as fuel - you put your ion engines on backwards - you put the SR. Docking ports on backwards - you don't realize the Nuclear engine has a potentially dangerous faring - you don't realize jet engines need intakes -
What's at the bottom of Titan's Methane Seas?
DerpenWolf replied to NASAFanboy's topic in Science & Spaceflight
A bunch of aliens watching old earth tv shows... -
Ok so let's say you to walk on the surface you have a big heavy super cooled mech suit how do you move it? You use actuators or something to help the astronaut move right! But wait... The suit now can move without an occupant and can move in any way the human could on the surface... Meaning the whole having a human in the suit to build or do repair work argument is totally invalid... Meaning having a manned Eva on the surface has no point because the robot can do whatever the human could do. And the delay between the surface and low orbit or geosynchronous orbit is not very bad so why not just have a human control a robot from space!!!! Also waking on Venus would probably be a &!+$# due to the thick atmosphere. My advice is that if you ever want to walk on Venus, blow off most the atmosphere and cool the planet down...

I tried to make a craft that would fly over the asteroid and pick it up with an under slung claw like a sky crane and it was a nightmare, I even tried planes and that didn't work either! Basically I found that having the asteroid on one side with a counter weight of the same mass on the other side worked best as it actually made it easy to manage the asteroid. Recently I've actually decided to see if I can replicate this with a class e asteroid but my lifter is having some strange kraken issues that I need to get around to reporting.
-
I actually managed to get an asteroid on the Vab quite some time ago Its only a class A but eventually Ill land something bigger there

Sorry guys, didn't you hear? EA bought ksp and they are halting all development on .38 so they can work on kerbal space program 2. I heard you can get it in jeb, bill; and janitor edition!!! Apparently the base game will cost $10 with basic parts with each dlc hanging around $50- ish while bug fix and update packages sit around $5 a piece ( at least they promised 20 updates a year!!!) Also does anyone know where I can find a mod that boosts the effects of the nuke launcher? I'm having some reall trouble with the bug blatr beasts on trol, heck I even lit my fusion engine off in its face and it still didn't do $#%+!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I actually like this concept mainly because that means we could get a Gemini and Soyuz like capsules that would fit in quite well (maybe even a mini circular hitchhiker that looks like the Soyuz front habitation bit!)

SpaceX to reveal their manned DragonV2 capsule tonight
DerpenWolf replied to Streetwind's topic in Science & Spaceflight
The ship just looks even more fantastic than I had expected! The two things that I wasn't expecting though was their concept of reusing the docking port cover as well as what appeared to be a new body for the rear/service module/Whatever section (The non reusable solar cell bit). Awsome work SpaceX!!! We should get squad to give us a capsule that looks a bit like the new Spacex one that had built in landing rockets and maybe a crew of about 5! With that fantastic control panel of course. 1000 science point parts anyone? -
Your favourite spacecraft generation
DerpenWolf replied to xenomorph555's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Defiantly the new generation of vessels are my favorite, they just seem to he so much potential!!! Edit: New Favorite Spacecraft is the SpaceX gen 2 capsule! -
So in a book I read recently "World of Ptavvs" by Larry Niven there was a propulsion system that was pretty much a throw away strap-on fusion SRB booster that pretty much worked by having a small controlled fission reaction ignite (yes I know this is not a good word for this but bare with me) a fusion reaction that uses up all the fuel in the tube whilst it squirts exhaust out an end, I also vaguely recall magnetic fields being used to help contain the reaction. So do you think we could build something like this with modern(ish) technologies?
-
As long as it looks different from the hitchhiker (not a scaled up and slightly different textured) and maybe more like it's made from a fuel tank, maybe even rounded edges so it looks like it is a solid inflatable habitat? No wait ignore that idea, let's just have it be a 2.5 meter station part that inflates to 3.75 meters!!!
