  1. Ok, Thanks for the replies guys. I think I'm going to go the mapping mod way.
  2. I'm playing in sandbox so science isn't my goal. I know there are "artifacts" out there that I can find but I don't want to just go look at the wiki. Other than driving around in my rover all over is there a better way to find these things in game? I know mapsat or scansat have them on their maps so I can use that. I'm just wondering if there's another way.
  3. What is the best way to find a good landing spot on the Mun or other bodies? I'd like to try and identify an area that may have something interesting to check out and also find a nice flat spot. Currently I'm driving my little rover around on the Mun but it seems like there should be a more efficient way. Suggestions?
  4. Thanks for all the suggestions. I watched the video by Scott Manley and built a spread sheet. Based on my test flights it's working correctly and I am able to predict with confidence now how much delta v I need to pack onto my rockets. How do I mark this thread as answered?
  5. I thought of that but the idea is to know how much delta v to put into the rocket before I launch so I can complete the desired task wwithout having too much unnecessary mass.
  6. Actually no, the link on my phone takes me to a completely different video, I'm not sure why since I watch many of Scott's video's on my phone. If I watch it on my computer I see it's the correct one. Thanks for the link though.
  7. This link is taking me to a video with some cartoon that doesn't seem to be related to the question.
  8. So I've found the delta V maps and those are great and all, but how can I determine how much delta V I need if what I am doing isn't on the charts? For example, how much delta V is required to go from an 80 km orbit to a 4,000 km orbit? How can I fill in these blanks? Thanks
  9. Is 2.1.1 supposed to be built into each probe / command pod or do we still need to stick the little box on the side of the craft? If so, I can't seem to get mechjeb to work without attaching the little box on the side.
  10. Thanks for all the help everyone! My rover has made it to the Mun!
  11. Strange thing. I've built it and flown it, but during flight, my prograde, retrograde, and maneuver symbols are backwards. That is, if I point to the prograde icon, I'm actually burning retrograde and vice versa. Any ideas why this is?
  12. This is kind of what I've been trying. But how to I then attach that lander thing to a rocket that actually flies?
  13. Here's a bigger image. So, I'm trying to model something that would realistically get launched so I'm trying to put this on a rocket. How would I make the upside down sky hook aerodynamic?
  14. I've been trying to figure out how to get this rover to the mun, but I just can't come up with a cargo bay / garage type thing that I can then put on a rocket. Do you have any suggestions? Mods are acceptable.
  15. What is the best way to identify interesting places to visit on the various moons and planets? IRL probes and mapping satellites would give a great picture of the surface to use to identify areas of interest. I know there is the mapsat mod but that looks to be dying and I don't want something that says go here with a big arrow. Should I just plan on driving around all the celestial bodies in a rover or is there a better way?
  16. I'm having a heck of a time trying to learn to dock. I spent about 6 hours and was only able to connect once. I've watched several YouTube videos and read tutorials but for whatever reason I just can't seem to get stable in front of the target ship. The translation controls don't seem to work well to reduce my momentum in a given direction and if I use the normal RCS controls I feel like I'm zig zagging all over the place. I have no issue getting to about 100 meters nor do I have issues controlling the Kerbal during an EVA so I'm not sure what I'm missing.
  17. That does look nice. I may install that and play around with it. Thanks for the tip!
  18. Is there a 2 man capsul available? The MK1 is a one man and the MK1-2 is a three man. It seems like those are the only one's available that can handle re-entry in atmosphere. Is there a stock 2 man capsule available?
  19. Finished the Com Sat IV mission today. I would have finished it yesterday but in classic Kerbal fashion I forgot to open the solar panels when I got to orbit and ran out of electricity. I then decided to launch a manned mission to manually deploy the panels but buggered that up by staging one too many times and dropping all my RCS off in orbit. Thinking I could just hit f9 to reload the last auto save I soon found out that only loads the last quick save even if the quick save is older than the last auto save.... so yesterday really never happened. Today went much better and everything went fine.
  20. Had to do my first rendezvous to rescue Bill Kerman. Apparently he was a stow away on one of my (supposed to be) unmanned kerbo-mapping satellites. He was going to be the first Kerbal to do a space walk as part of my Kerbinai program, which he still was, but now it was because I had to rescue him.
  21. Finished the age of satellites campaign section on the wiki.
  22. Wow, thanks. Looks like I should try and get my comm sat directly over KSC down to the second. Any suggestions on how to plan a burn that's that precise?
  23. I've been working through the campaigns on the wiki. I've managed to setup my com sat network in geostationary orbit but my one comm sat isn't exactly over KSC. KSC is at 74 degrees 34 min W Long and my sat is fluctuating between 73 50 and 75 10 with an eccentricity of .003. Is this acceptable or should I be able to get my sats exactly where they should be? Same with inclination, I've got an inclination of 0.22 degrees. Should I be able to get it exactly at 0 degrees? How close is close enough but still possible in KSP? As a comparison, how precise are the satellites that NASA launches?
